True, it's not what I want either, but it would help.
Having the Lions play a shorter season due to no playoff football does reduce the competition for the leisure $$ from a marketing point of view.
Given that we are ground-sharing, perhaps more cooperation/coordination between the FFA, Phoenix, NZRU/WRFU to ensure that both teams play in Wellington on the same weekend as little as possible?

That's interesting you say that because I believe the move to Sunday games was because the time slot was seen as MORE family friendly.
Have spoken to a number people who attended games last season who havnt been this year for that very reason that 5pm sunday is not a good time.Really cant understand why the club wanted so many games on a sunday as they also disadvantage out of town fans as well.Maybe crowds might improve if we actually saw some effective marketing by the club, because what we have seen so far has been very poor.
I completely agree. 7:30 ish on a friday or saturday would bring in much bigger crowds.Even the away games are on at bad times.
Tony already answered this in another thread. they didn't choose the times, the A-league did, so they went with the family angle because that was the best one.

For everyones information we were not allowed to play any other time except Sunday at 5pm. There are several factors:
1. Air NZ Cup takes precedent with Sky and the stadium so we had to play Sunday
2. Fox Sports dictate kick off time so we kick off at 3pm AEST , 5pm NZ time
3. We have Friday and Saturday kick off in later in the season so lets see if that is more successful.
So in summary until we grow as a code it will be a battle.
However rest assured we will try and improve scheduling. Next year will
be even harder as there will be 13 or 14 home games next year.

Goals, goals, goals and goals.
We already give away enough of those! I'm sure we have a "Free Goal to Every Away Team!" Prootion running at every home game!

Maybe a decent Phoenix performance for a full 90 minutes.
I say tackle him in the face.

maybe a decent phoenix performance for at least 10 minutes might be a good start. they can build up to 90 minutes by the last game of the season.

after Fridays game V Sydney it is simple, play good football, have YF getting involved, have a gutsy / competitive performance - the crowds will come. I took my better half to the game in Sydney, she doesnt follow sport much but she loved the atmosphere, dancing, chanting, banter & shirts off for the nix.
As a result the phoenix have a new fan.
If we lived in Wlgtn she would now go to every home game with me.
The general gist is that we talk it up and try and get people along to the games that wouldnt usually go, heck they may even enjoy themselves and they will be back.
