#FeverDreams - Ronald McDonald House

I want Phoenix crowd numbers to grow.

I know I am not the only one.

I am lucky. I have disposable income.

I am going to buy a ticket to every home game this season, and give it away as a random act of kindness on Lambton Quay on a Friday before the game.

If anyone else wants to do likewise, perhaps we could do it together in a coordinated way? If not, I challenge anyone else who can afford to do so to do what I am doing.

It might help get a few people hooked.

EDIT: Since then a lot has happened, and the name of this thread has been changed.

Yellow Fever are fundraising to send families from Ronald McDonald House to Phoenix home games. We will buy a family season ticket and look at paying for parking, food and merchandise, so please donate!

Interesting... First three tickets purchased.

vs. Jets, Sun. 26th Oct., PAX 6685

vs. WSW, Fri. 7th Nov., PAX 6115

vs. Melb. City, Sun 30th Nov., PAX 5118

That will include the almost 4k in season passes, and a couple of thousand comp tickets for sponsors I would guess.

We used to buy a spare season pass that we handed around our freiends (so not quite as generous as Brandon). After awhile they either bought there own tickets or told us they weren't interested. Seemed to work for the first few years as we doubled the number of people who came to games :-)

Another idea maybe for people that don't want to fork out $23 total themselves, is that people put in what they can ($5) and more people donate, the more tickets we could maybe buy?

I'd give up one Energy drink a week (Yes I drink way to many of them) to do this.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Pool some money together, buy tickets in bulk, give them out on Friday before the game.

Forgive me Brandon but I can't help but think you're over-reacting a bit here. One game in ... could all turn around ... pro footie mate. Not charity dependent. Not yet.

You're welcome to your opinion.

I don't think I am over reacting.

I also don't think the me doing this makes it charity dependent.

I think it WILL turn around, not that it might.

And when it does I want as many people to be there as possible. So that when it blooms it blooms with as many adherents as possible. I have wanted to do this before, but have not had the means. And if the crowds were averaging 12,000, I'd do it as well.

If the Dom post want to look at it negatively, so be it. I am not going to live my life based on how the Dom Post might choose to make the worst of things.

Fair enough. But Welnix should be sorting this out not you.

WTF?

It's not either or.

We live in a world where anything is possible.

I can do this AND Welnix can do things.

I am doing it because I WANT to. I doubt Welnix are going to think "Oh well we don't need to do anything, one random fan is handing out one ticket per game, all our problems are solved."

I don't see it as desperate. I see it as generous.

I don't think bwtcf seriously thinks that giving away one ticket a week will solve all our problems. Therefore He isn't doing it for that reason.

Good on you bwtcf. Random kindness is something I could get behind, so if you do set up the givealittle then I'll contribute what I can when I can.

As for the Dom post, surely it's more of a good and happy news story. Though I do suppose knowing them, the headline would probably be more along the lines of what 2B (jokingly) said. But who cares.

F##k the Doomed Post those negative tossers should be worrying about the four people that turn up to watch "New Zealands Big Game" at the stadium every weekend during the winter ,the only time that stadium is full is for the Weetabix AB's  ,The vomiting sevens fans and possibly Elton( well past it on the pension tour )John

Our crowds will increase when the team clicks and we start winning, this will happen against CCM (away) and a week later against the Newcastle Jets ,crowds are always faddy in Wellington ,but an article like this after the first game of the  season is just dumb lazy journalism that does nothing for the  team or the City and the trumpet that wrote it should go back to Model makers weekly or The  Exotic Goldfish breeders monthly gazette !

This is highly commendable but are these tickets in the zone? If so are you going to first make them sing for their supper and chant first? I wouldn't want them turning up and being abused by some drunk or something

Kind gesture however given the price of season tickets / Nix Six and even the relatively cheap walk up prices, I'm not sure anyone can legitimately claim ticket prices are a barrier to attending. Not saying families maybe can't afford all the associated costs of a day out, but tickets themselves are extremely cheap.

Good idea, but really this sort of promotion should be taken up by the Phoenix. Each home game they could invite two or three Wellington schools to have a free ticket per pupil as long as they brought an adult with them

Price is definitely used as an excuse. Last season the Huawei Zone meant that tickets were $10 (altho' Ticketek did add on an $8 booking fee, which took the gloss of anyone wanting one ticket)

Surly they give away enough tickets already.I know some people who only attend if they are given sponsors tickets and they lap up all the associated giveaways and ground access and meeting the players etc.Gets pretty grating at times to see some of the things they score especially when they havnt paid out of their pocket for anything.

Yep full aware there are perks for being a sponsor but these people only use the product they are not part of the sponsors staff.

As an aside do these freebies get counted in attendances or is it only tickets that have been paid for,

You're right. I just think if tickets are to be given away, the Phoenix should be doing it.
