As an aside do these freebies get counted in attendances or is it only tickets that have been paid for,
They count for PAX, attendance is counted by tickets scanned in the turnstiles so I would say yes, presuming they actually show up.

Brandon, would you please marry my sister
If I do, does that qualify me for the case of beer - would it count as pulling a chick with football chants?
I'm in Brandon.
Your initiative just doubled its potential.
Like you say a few more could get hooked like us.I'm up for what ever is possible.Maybe talk some detail at Saturday night's Nix game?
Probably.
I have realised I am double booked on Saturday night, but I am working on that.
Good idea, but really this sort of promotion should be taken up by the Phoenix. Each home game they could invite two or three Wellington schools to have a free ticket per pupil as long as they brought an adult with them
And as previously stated, they can. Nothing is stopping them from doing this sort of thing. It is not either or, it can be AND.
I am doing it because I want to. I fully encourage others to do it IF THEY WANT TO too.
And I am ALL FOR any promotion the club does as well.

Yep full aware there are perks for being a sponsor but these people only use the product they are not part of the sponsors staff.
As an aside do these freebies get counted in attendances or is it only tickets that have been paid for,
Oh well. I am already wrong for going to the football to sing.
Might as well be wrong for handing out tickets because I want to and not being the Phoenix. *shrug*
The club give plenty of tickets away to corporate clients whom in turn put them out on the desk for their employees whom cant be arsed to show up or grab one. With Brandons idea, i belueve his target would be someone with a slight orbigger interest in football.
Good on ya Brandon, whatever happens, it was a positive idea and has a positive step forward. I am tempted to follow your lead, there's a couple of people at my work that need a bit more encouraging. Better to do this than the take shots at the fans that a CEO did with yet another move to Auckland sabre rattle.
Dont go reading something i didnt write i wasnt criticizing your efforts at all.My comment was replying to Waricks post

I know mate. I was not replying to what you said...

What sort of ceremony would you have?
I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may Poznan.
Good effort mate. I love the passion.
Way to be positive.
Is there any way to measure the following with our dear friends at Ticketek:
(a) if these tickets are actually being used
and
(b) whether they are taking extra folks along with them
I would love to know just how successful this actually is.
In saying that, Fantastic effort by Brandon. Awesome mate!!!
While I am at it I think there is actually some merit in starting a fund to purchase tickets, maybe for a Childrens Charity or something?
Maybe aiming high and working together with the club to fund a Matchday experience for many people (ie Corporate Box + some merchandise + meet and greet players etc) funded totally by YF Donations.
Thoughts?
Maybe Ronald McDonald House? A good day out for kids that aren't completely bedridden, or a bit of a break for the families of ones that are.
yeah I actually really like that idea. Could be especially cool for season passes too.
Bit more targeted than giving them to strangers who may or may not use them or who maybe would've bought a ticket anyway.
Much merit in this. Much merit in Brandon's random act of kindness. They can co-exist.
Along these lines, I have been thinking for some time of putting something together to assist in getting some of our less well off new citizens - refugees and migrants - along to games. A lot of love for football amongst that community, but not a lot of dosh. I do some volunteer work in that space, so maybe time to get off my chuff.
Good on you Brandon for setting an example.

philanthropy, it's actually for the masses. BTW good luck on Saturday Turfmoore!
Well done that man. A small step but it's a positive contribution doing some good
So did you give the ticket to someone today?
Edit: Silly, probably next Friday.
What are the chances of someone on the street actually going?
If this was going to happen it would be better to get two tickets so that the person can bring someone if they want, most people don't like doing things on there own.

Probably better than one of the corporate clients free ticket giveaways actually attending a game.

Then buy two tickets Ryan.

No, while I appreciate the gesture I remain sceptical. I'd pitch in a few bucks if the Fever were giving tickets to something like Ronald Mcdonald house or canteen or something like that.

Okay, fair enough.
But I'm going to do this my way, because I want to.
The way I see it, I am stumping up the money, so I get to decide what I am going to do with it. I appreciate your feedback, and I am not pissed off by it at all... but I am saying to you and anyone else who thinks it could be done better in a different way - do it then.
I intend to talk to people before just giving them the ticket. Not just randomly give it to someone and hope they decide to come to the game.
I expect I might talk to 20 or so people before finding one I give the ticket to. It's entirely possible that one or some of those 20 odd people might either
(a) go to the game after having had their attention drawn to it, and/or
(b) tell some people about this guy who stopped them in the street to talk about the Phoenix, and that some of those people might go to the game, and/or
(c) might not go to this game, but then might have their awareness raised so they look out for the next home game a bit more.
If it raises awareness, it's worth doing.
Also, it's entirely possible that the person I give the ticket to WILL want to go with someone...
...what will happen then?
Maybe they will buy one or more tickets for the person/people they want to go with them.
Wouldn't that be wonderful?

;o) Yep, next Friday.

Didn't mean to offend even if none was taken. I wasn't criticising your gesture

Cool mate. And the whole point of this is to stimulate discussion, thinking and initiatives that will grow the crowds. We all want that I think.
I REALLY like this Ronald McDonald house idea (had a family member use them with sick child)
I'm happy to get in touch with organisation and see if we can make it happen if people are interested?
Can look at one family that could possibly be able to attend game next Sunday

I also won two tickets from the Mojo promotion and I struggled to find anyone interested in free tickets. Managed to find two people to take them, but there was not a great deal of interest. Sadly it's going to take a good winning sequence to promote interest or David Villa. It's a shame that Frank Lampard didn't have a spell at Melbourne B, as I'm sure that would have had a huge impact on attendance for that Nix game
Isn't what you are purposing to do, exactly what the sponsors struggle to do?
I have been given free tickets by sponsors because they don't get entries into their competitions or staff don't want to go.
I guess at the end of the day, it's your money if you want to spend it that way.
I think the idea of giving tickets to charity is much better.
Welnix need to change their approach of expecting support to developing support and to realise that they'll not break-even for a generation at least. If they expect to make money or break even then they are in the wrong business. The EPL and TV revenue in Europe has totally distorted the approach of club owners. Prior to the EPL, Football League clubs were run as a not-for-profit entities or at least money could not be taken out of the clubs by the owners.
Oh well at least the 'Nix have drawn level with the Mariners (McGlinchey saved Brockie's blushes after a poor penalty)

This is who...

Chants vs Songs. You go to a football game to chant, you go to the shower, karaoke, church to sing songs :-)
Despite the little smiley face, that seemed to me a pretty clear declaration that in your opinion there is a right way to go to football, and it involves chanting, NOT singing.
And that people who sing should be getting in the shower, going to a karaoke bar, or going to church, but that they should not being going to the football.
It absolutely did NOT read that my 'sing' is your 'chant'.
On the back of your vitriolic email about how a 'love song' like Riera The Only would be received at a football match in the North East of England (i.e. where people knew how to support a team 'properly') that made my blood boil. I found it bloody offensive.
I read that and thought: "Okay, didn't realise that there was only one correct way of supporting a football team. Now I know. Must have been doing it wrong all this time. Good to get educated!" It really pissed me off.
You say you come in peace. Cool. Let there be peace then. Sorry if I have over-reacted.
Sing when we're winning, we will sing when we're winning!
Pass.
Interception.
So I win?
Can we film the ticket giveaway and punter's reaction?
Might make for a fun clip or documentary ...
And let's get the Dompost to do an article on it and an exclusive interview with New Ideal, Womens Day and NZ Womens Weekly why not?

Can we not do this please. Iv'e seen these on youtube and it's cringey. It's just a $20 ticket ffs. Lets let Brandon go out through the kindness of his heart and slip a ticket to someone he thinks would be interested.

Actually I'd like to see that on video (it it means what I think you mean).
