Gamba Osaka and location in China.  Brave...
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Man, you should have seen my Dad when Zuna was offside for that second goal. I honestly thought he was going to smash the TV! I'm glad it evened out in the end because while the Jet's first goal was quality, they didn't deserve the second. It was an absolutely shocking call by the ass. ref. A draw is a result I can be happy with. Also nice to see us not playing like ass.   Lose all this pussy fancy sh*t in the middle and just play a simple game. Overcomplicating things just costs us the game.

Man, totally hated that Sydney commentator though. Not only was his voice annoying, but he was just soooo biased we actually muted the TV.

Hyuk-Su Seo is the clogs Right back who got El**ch sent off.

Song from Newcastle joined them at the very end of last season and I suspect that is the first time we've played against him.

It was a huge deflection off Dodd that made it a goal, would never have gone over Paston otherwise.

It was clearly offside. We've been penalised for worse at home, so I'm fine with blasting the ref on this one.

Also, even though it came off Dodd, it was still a pretty decent shot from that range. Still, you're right about how Paston stopping it otherwise. He's really proving his worth. :)

Two penalties, geez next time the Jets should just bring skipping ropes and make it official.  Fairly happy with 2 away goals.  Four goals, two games, a bit of momentum, happy punters.

Have people read the NZPA report that is on the Herald website as well as stuff? They called Gaos penalty controversial...... I couldn't hear exactly as was to busy screaming but even Andy Harper wasn't concerned about the Gao pen was he?

Heard it rather than saw it, but the description on the radio commentary was arms wrapped around the player... maybe to egg chasers that's not worthy of a penalty...

Just come home from a meeting that started when we were down 2 - 1

So I am very happy to have the draw, I dont care about how we got it, whether it was a rugby league tackle or handbags at 10 paces.

Thought we played ok in the first half, good commitment and taking it to them more up front.

I think Gao is always worth it because after he beats the first tackle, and he is one of the few in the team who can do that, the defense get a bit desparate and he is always a chance for a foul against him. I would like to see him play further up for that reason

I thought a draw was a fair result. The heat and humidity definitely took it out of our guys which made everyone lethargic later on. Jets used a lot more long ball than us in open play and looked more dangerous on the counter attack IMO (mind you their second goal was via long ball...)
I noticed Durante liked to hoof it up the park quite often as well

In fairness he has played in his preferred position the once, and there would likely have scored but got flagged incorrectly for offside.

I didn't see enough of the game today, but the lineup said he was being pushed into a more upfront role again . Or some damn odd thing with him and Smeltz behind Covs.

He is so biased its unbelievable, but then again Aus commentators are as a result of their over-inflated ego's.

Wank f**king wank over Pim Verbeek. He's at almost every f**king game in the league, do we need to see his ugly mug 6 times each game?!

But the point is they get paid too make the correct call and have linesman. Players get paid to put performances on the park and referees shouldnt be ano different.

You say yourself that the goal was poor defending. Playing the game at a professional level is difficult yet you critise the players for that, but use it as an excuse for the ref?

I think we definately used more long ball than the Jets. I'll have to watch it again but I remember getting pretty frustrated as the long ball didn't work once.

Just finished watching the game. Love the commitment but, jesus, our attack is LAME. It's very frustrating to see us a goal down yet incapable of launching any kind of attack. For god sake someone run at the defence and HAVE A SHOT!

Durante, Sigmund and Lochhead all good, Dodd not so good. Paston...tut tut. Nice aggression from Brown. Surely the Kwasnik experiment must end here - he was poor, and so was Johnson, who looks like a tired old pro limping through the last days of his career. Sadly that applies to Coveny too.

Thank you Smeltz for saving me from a sleepless night gnashing my teeth.

Guys, just a small reality check.. the Jets were missing 7 (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) first choice players... I was expecting a win. Granted the conditions were difficult but apart from Mulligan (who isn't first choice these days anyway) we had a full strength squad out there. It's those games you must take to climb the ladder (especially as there were 2 draws this round).

I agree with comments above about Coveny, Kwasnik- for us to be top 4 we need some reinforcements..

I thought it was great to see such commitment from the team last night. For large parts of the game that the Phoenix were the better team out there and Tim Brown was a stand out for me in center midfield, he was tough, uncompromising and won us a lot of ball. He also did not take a backward step all game.

Our back four for the most part looked pretty solid and Paston was also good apart from a couple of positional mistakes that ultimately cost us goals. I do think he was a little far off his line on the Jets first goal and had he been a metre or so back it would have been a regulation save, deflection or not.

The offside call that did not come for us in the lead up to the second Jets goal was for me a bit of a non issue, sometimes its called and sometimes its not, that goes for europe and any top league in the world. Zura was pretty close to level when that ball way played through and if a goal keeper is going to leave his line in that position then he needs to claim the ball!! It is the keepers right to go for it and regardless of who is in his way if he claims that ball cleanly then the call will never go against him. I thought Paston was caught in no mans land regardless of the offside he should have made sure he got that ball.

We showed good enterprise at times but unfortunately on far too many occasions the wrong option is being taken with the final ball either being well over hit or the guy who makes the best run not being given the ball at crucial times. I think this is just a team chemistry thing and will come with time but players need to just take that extra second and play the ball to the guy with a clean shot on goal. The key to the long ball game that we at times continue to employ is to have very pacey wide players which we do not have but perhaps Bertos in for Kwasnik may help there because he was very poor. Encouraging signs though and we can take that point and keep building.

It could have been a win but much better than a loss that we were staring at after the 2nd goal.

Remember the Jets could and perhaps should have been down to 10 men early in the second half the challenge from Hakkenson was a shocker. Yes they were also missing a number of top players but the players that came on had been getting regular gametime in various representitive teams and were hardly bunnies.

Well done Phoenix and lets keep building.

Good point. Up until we scored, I never had any worries that we were going to lose. Most disappointing thing for me was that we didn't kick on after we went ahead. They were there for the taking.

Also agree with the shouts about another striker. How many times do we see a ball played across the face of the 6 yard box and there's no-one there attacking it. Happened at least 2 or 3 times yesterday.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I think the critism of Kwasnik here is unfair.

But do agree to get rid of Coveny and Johnson

Every week I rabbit on about Johnson and Coveny being past it and undeserving of a starting spot, why the f**k isn't Ferrante starting alongside Brown, does Ricki really think Johnno can provide our midfield spark? One of Kwasnik and Coveny should be on the bench, the other left out of the squad, that's my opinion and has been for weeks.

You know we belong together...

To their credit at least they're actually calling us Wellington now...

I agree that Brown & Ferrante should be the central midfield, people are saying that we were weak on attack but if it weren't for the post once and nearly the post a second time, we had two low shots that beat Covic and should have been goals.

Great to see Brown shooting, after two games he's got a couple of solid shots away and a goal as well.  We saw in Bertos' last game when he was pushed up into a forwards position that he has a decent shot as well and isn't afraid of shooting, when he returns to match fitness I do hope Ricki gives him a chance to pair with Smeltz since he's got a lot of pace and a decent shot on him.  You can say that he's more a wing cos of all his assists at Glory, but they play him on the wing which he does well but it doesn't mean he can't and won't score goals if played forward.

If Brown can keep getting good shots like that every game its going to lift his confidence and the team's.  We're guilty of looking for one too many balls in the attacking third sometimes and sure Smeltz is producing a lot of goals but once the other players start taking their own shots Smeltz should get more space and less pressure.

I feel we fell off the pace after the first penalty, perhaps the boys aren't used to scoring first and protecting a lead? :P  The Jets subs really were telling though, they injected new flavour and pace earlier than Ricki did and that helped shift the momentum.  I'm glad we pulled it back for a point at the end though.

Well done, agree 100% with you

Brown = good
Paston = poor
Kwasnik- moderate

Offside was very marginal, cant blame officials for that. It was desparately ppor defending, particularly from Paston who should have ate that up.

Smeltz and Covs up front have produced 4 goals in 2 games (including 2 away goals).  Let's not forget that.
To quote a mate in Oz "From what I saw, it was good footie, they really looked strong up front and in mid field.  A little bit soft on the left in defence.
Looked like the defenders were getting sucked up to mid field and were beaten by practiced runs forward by Newcastle."

Tim Brown and Ferrante together would be a little deep for my liking. If we are having those two in the centre then I'd be pushing Ferrante way further upfield. But hell it'd be better than Johnson at least. No excuse whatsoever for playing Johnson ahead of Ferrante. Think Brown is the real deal in midfield, he looks great.
A diamond formation with Brown as DM and Daniel as AM could work as well? Could swap in Ferrante for either position too.

What's Covs got to do with Smeltzy's headder against Bling or Browns long range blast? Nothing.
He also didn't do anything to assist Gao in winning the penalty and therefore apart from going down to win our first pen last night he hasn't had much to do with our goals at all.
