Front page news on The Fever.

I have no idea how seeing as we have a full squad, and no room for injury cover.  Kind of only leaves someone going or a Guest spot which is limited to 7 weeks.

Someone going would be tricky as well as I can't see him fitting under the cap and Elrich has the marquee stuff sorted.

I'm calling Bullsh*t on it (or Guest player).

The trouble with 'next year' is that he's currently unemployed so where does he play for the next 10 months ?

Team Wellington !

You'd have to think they'd be talking next year? Talk of a long term deal in the article as well would rule out the guest spot idea. But really, how reputeable is The Advertiser?

How can we sign another player when we already have a full roster? Are we able to sack someone if they are not up to it or injured? bigdunc2007-10-16 12:44:13

Yeah we would be the sh*t, also someone with finishing ability for when smeltzys away winning our world cup qualifiers.

BTW does anyone know if the Phoenix were awarded that goal or not (from sunday) cos i heard they were

You can sign temporary cover for an injury, but as the papers said this week that RIcki has a full squad to choose from for the first time that doesn't seem right.  You can sign a player on up to a 7 week Guest contract, like Romario last season with Adelaide (although then it was 4 weeks).

I guess we could sign him for 7 and then add him as injury cover (which under a loophole is not in the cap) if anyone goes down before the transfer window.

As I said, can't see it.

yes we were awarded the goal.
It would be good to have him for the world cup qualifiers thats the only reason I can see Ricki signing him.
Our team already has good strikers we are amoung the top goal scorers in the league.

I would have thought he might have tried to sign a defender if he was going to sign anyone

If he has going to sign anyone, I agree it prob wouldn't be an attacker, but the thing is is that it isn't 'anyone', its John Aloisi, which would be amazing- I'm sure most a-league coaches would give their left nut for him. But realistically I agree with HN in that I can't see it happening.

Id say we would be the most likely to sign him, already having Ross and I doubt he would go to Adelaide after what happened to his brother...

sounds like they might be looking to next year somehow...

He would be an awesome signing! him and Smeltz up the front would be great!

I thought when we first announced our squad we had left one place free.  People were talking about bringing back Chris James etc.  Then we sign Elrich who is the marque player so that doesn't take the spot so i'm assuming we still have one place spare and OMG would it be good if it went to John Aloisi!

Think i would be keeping clear of Ross at training,he could decide to create a vacancy in the squad.

Very skeptical. John turned down a huge offer from Sydney saying he wanted more money and we've got a full squad..

We can dream, though.

Lets get Elric's brother in aswell and really get the commentators confused. Especially if t**ser Mark Elrich is commentating. Any other brothers we could get. It'll save on shirt printing too Toffeeman2007-10-16 15:23:58

Its no longer a problem.

i'm hoping that we can pick him up as a guest player then his salary doesn't count for the cap.... then while he is playing in that 7 week period fabricate an injury to a player to make room, ruthless....perhaps too ruthless

i no its big call cuz hes an up n coming kiwi but id drop Barbarouses as this year hes only really guna be cover if we get desperate (and maybe the galaxy game).. he could still train with the team gaining that extra skill for the future an that would  open a spot for aloisi?????

and I am sure that Aloisi will be happy being in the bottom 3 wage earners in the squad.

I think the atmosphere at this club is to think big and make things happen (e.g the Beckham show)

on that basis I'd not be surprised if it did happen

A-league wont let you think too big with the salary cap in place. I'm guessing Aloisi jnr will want more than the suggested $20k a year that Costa is on.

Its no longer a problem.

If Ross stays on next year I reckon John will want to come (he said that he wanted to finish his career playing alongside his brother). But I can't see him coming this season.Inter rocks2007-10-16 16:37:21

True, but what about guest player (on a fair whack) and marquee status next year (slight problem with that 'cunning' plan is if Elrich's marquee status rolls over into next season - which i think it does - ah well Terry and Tony can work it out)

Will it mean a NZ team will have the most Socceroos on it's teamlist?!?

Depends on your measurement... when they get desperate cloggers like J Griffiths and Laybutt have won caps, so it's not really a badge of honor anymore.

I highly doubt that Aloisi will sign a full contract with us, but to have him for a 7 game stint will increase our profile ten-fold! And would be great to see yet another Socceroo, who isn't past it, come back and play in his home league.

I suppose both - where's HN, our resident anorak - he'll be able to give us a breakdown of current and former Socceroos at each of the clubs.
