Did you see Diego? He's either broken or way out of form. The hot rumour from facebook says Carcass won't start for a week

imo we are missing a Miller/Hernandez-type player. Someone who can run the game from the middle of the park. (no, they don't need to be fattys like Miller and Hernandez at times)

Exactly what I think. Fred was similar type and also Felipe could bring it to the field too.
It should be the go to man in the middle and the guy with the ability to split defences but also control a midfield. They should really boost confidence on the pitch and that way players never hesitate to work through him

This kind of player is what we need in the middle, because our midfield had no stricture at all the other day and no direction. With a strong confident and creative midfielder, he will be able to bring out the creativity in our other players like Diego, Daniel etc. Probably why Daniel performed a bit better in season 1..?

I was thinking that this could potentially be a good signing.
If Ricki was to try McKain and Centre back (make Durante work a bit harder to keep his spot) and put Lia at Right/ left back (make Manny/ Lochy work for their spots) then he might start getting some better performances out of the defense.
that gives us 7 defenders, daniel/hearfield/bertos/Rojas/Brown/Ferente/Diego as midfield options still and Ifill, greeny, Chen and Barbarouses up front if need be

Jamaica midfielder Wolry Wolfe joins Central Coast Mariners<!-- author --> <!--dt><img src="/images/author.jpg" border="0" alt="Greg%20Buckle" /></dt--> By Tom Smithies
<!--strong>Former Australian Captain</strong -->September 01, 2009 <!-- // author --><!-- // lead story --><!-- story -->

Central Coast Mariners boss Lawrie McKinna has signed Jamaican international Wolry Wolfe on a six-week deal with a view to replacing just-departed Adrian Caceres.

Caceres was released on Monday to join Wellington Phoenix.

Wolfe arrived in Australia at the weekend after a 40-hour trip from Jamaica and will initially sign as a six-week injury cover for Shane Huke - but if he impresses, Caceres's departure opens up a spot in the salary cap for Wolfe.

The left-sided player was due to play a youth team game on Monday night for the Coast, and could be in contention to face Perth Glory in Canberra on Friday night.

With 14 caps for Jamaica, Wolfe has been on loan at Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Caceres had been injured for much of the Coast's pre-season and was clearly behind Adam Kwasnik in McKinna's pecking order so sought a release from a club he only joined last year from Melbourne Victory

Looks a good deal from our side of things... But Caceres is a reasonable player .. good touch and can run at players with the ball a good number 10 or left mid...

But from the Mariners Web Site

Caribbean Coast Mariners

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/111506,caribbean-coast-mariners.aspx

CENTRAL Coast Mariners have added a touch of reggae with the arrival of Jamaican international Wolry Wolfe on a short-term injury replacement contract.

The left-sided midfielder has been added to Lawrie McKinna's lineup to cover for defender Shane Huke, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since the completion of the club's inaugural Asian Champions League campaign.

"While it's obviously bad luck for Shane, it gives us the chance to bring in and assess a player of Wolry's quality, and we're looking forward to having him on board for the next six weeks at least," said Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman.

Wolfe arrives at Bluetongue Stadium fresh from a championship winning stint at the Mariners' Hungarian Blades World partner club Ferencvaros, where he signed after impressing scouts at Sheffield United.

"Wolry comes highly recommended by our partners at Sheffield United, he is a Jamaican international, and we're hopeful he'll add a new dimension to the Mariners squad," Gorman said.

On the way to racking up his 14 senior caps for Jamaica's "Reggae Boyz", Wolfe began his career with Jamaican Premier League outfit Hazard United (which had a name change to Portmore United in 2003) as a 19 year old in 2000, before making a move to Trinidad and Tobago's professional league with Joe Public FC.

He made a brief return to Portmore before heading back to Joe Public, when Ferencvaros came knocking.

"He's come in and looked OK at training after stepping off a 40-hour flight, he'll train with the boys this week and we'll see how he goes," said Mariners manager, Lawrie McKinna.

"Obviously disappointing news that we're going to be without Hukey for six weeks, but it will give him a chance to fully recover from his knee injury, and also give Wolry a chance to show us what he's got.

"Depending on how he goes, we'll assess his performances and make a decision on where we go with him in the coming weeks.

I've thought about this guy for a while. And I think he generally is a decnt signing for the nix. Putting feelings aside and not having to feel sorry for other players, he could be a quality asset to the squad. A few players have suffered under McKinna I think, and Adrian could come out of it with a point to prove. might be interested in the CCM game now.
Think he could be the opposite of Kwasnik, and really be a good signing

Huh? I was saying that it was a 'huge signing' like you said then why would they need a trial period?

Obviously I was right because it's some unknown Jamaican.

Yeah, was a lot of positivity when G** and Elrich signed. Though a bit of negativity when Kwasnik signed. (from me, anyway)

How about another midfielder. You can never have enough midfielders.

To me, this doesnt seem like a rushed signing. Most of the articles state that the club first showed interest when we played CCM in July a month ago. I say well done to the club for making an effort, but then I feel a bit sorry for players like Hearfield, Daniel and Rojas who now have a slim chance of breaking into the starting 11.

Yeah, I remember when most people (including me) were happy we signed Mulligan. I guess we have higher standards now. But like you say, depth isn't a bad thing.

Sorry mate for picking on you but you happened to make the comment when I was thinking about it.

To say you feel sorry for players that can't make the starting team or the bench because we may have better players is crazy. If Daniel, Costa etc aren't as good as the ones we have on the field then they have to get better fast or dip out. Doesn't his mean we have a better side?

If we want to languish like the first 2 seasons then lets get the very average players out on the field and feel happy we've given them a game because they're nice guys.
If we want to get to playoffs then lets keep looking for better players. They could be f**king idiots for all I care as long as we win and they don't ruin team dynamics. For all we know some of these 'rejects' as some put them may click with others around them and be blessings for the Nix (Smeltz)

I feel sorry for these guys dipping out as most on here also seem to, but lets not get carried away with well below average players by A-League standards.
If we had a 'feel sorry for' 11 George and Cleberson might still be here

totally agree mate!

Its ok to feel sorry for them though. I more feel for Costa who has had 4 rounds in which I feel like he should have made the bench but Ricki chose not to put any strikers onh the bench. But when Chen is ready, then he will probably most definitely put him on the bench.

I definitely want the squad stronger though. And I said over and over during preseason that any players we signed should be first team or thereabouts and I applaud mangement for that!

Elsewhere, Central Coast Mariners have signed Welsh midfielder Matt Crowell until the end of the season to replace Adrian Caceres, who this week joined Wellington Phoenix.

So that was the 'big signing' Midfielder? A Welsh conference-level player?

Jeez, really blew the hinges off the A-League that one did.

Football Siam's latest issue (Sept 4-10) mentions Caceres joining the Nix and gives a brief bio. Here is a very rough translation. (This is the 2nd mention the Nix have had in three weeks - first was Chen's transfer)

"Adrian Caceres,(27 yrs, midfield, Australian, but born in Argentina) has moved from Central Coast Mariners to Wellington Phoenix FC of New Zealand, who play in the A-League as well. Released in the final year of his contract by the Mariners, he will now be available to play for the Phoenix against Adelaide United on Friday, Sept 3rd. Caceres was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 10 January 1982. He began playing football with youth teams at Valez Sarsfield, a well-known team in the Argentinian league, before moving to Perth SC in Australia in 1999-2000. Then he moved to Southhampton in England during 2000-01. He played in lower divisions in England with Yeovil Town, Hull City (before they were in the Premier League), Wycombe Wanderers, Brentford, and Aldershot Town. He returned to play for Perth Golf (Gulf??)FC in 2005-2006 and then Melbourne Victory FC from 2006-2008 and moved to the Mariners last season. We'll wait and see whether or not he has success at the Phoenix."wolfman2009-09-08 02:26:28

i was thinking about the Caceres signing today.

Would anyone have complained in the off season if we had signed - Chen, Ifill, Greenie, Deigo, Caceres, Crowthler all at once. Thats a huge improvement to our squad. Seems like when these players come in one by one we moan and groan.

We have a great squad now, and it has been shown in the past, good teams in this league have good depth. And i think we have that now.
