I was watching the Phoenix on the box on the weekend and the camera several times showed a group in black and yellow shirts, which on the front, I think it read "Who are ya" some of them turned around and I thought on the back it said "Petone till I die" I may have got it wrong as I was enjoying an ale during the game, can anyone put me out of my misery, cos if it did read that, I want one of those shirts, Cheers Big Ears

It's a group of petone fans who got together and did a brilliant job with their tee shirts and a big flag they have. They go to the BB before the games and are quite a laugh. Good value to the Nix support.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

hmm sorry LG - but they used the Nix logo without permission, got the T-shirt company in trouble for it, so I think they let themselves down a bit on that front. Good supporters though.

I'd have thought that the 'Nix logo was the property of the Club.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I don't think the Football Facists of Australia would agree with you on that one

Is it any different then with some of us using the Nix logo on here?

Yes, because we're not profiting from using it on here.

I'm not 100% convinced that the logo is FFA's rather than the Club's. However, as LF1 says, it's about using the logo without approval and making money from it that's the problem.

For reasons which you don't want to know, I was designing some Partick Thistle t-shirts a while back and had to get the Club's permission to use the badge on them. The CEO at the time told me that they were very protective of their brand. I posted a while back on here that Clubs have to be protective, because if they allow people to put their logo on anything and everything it opens the door for anyone to put the badge on any old sh*t, no matter how badly made or shoddy it is. Which then reflects badly on the Club. (Not that I'm knocking the Petone t-shirts. I rather like them). There is also the loss of income factor as well.

There was a thread covering all this sort of stuff a while back.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I saw the Petone lads in the BB on Friday before the game and did wonder about the use of the Nix logo. Cool shirts though

I stand corrected, Corkster. You are spot on.  Just had a look at the FFA Rules and Regulations and the logos, and the names, of all A League clubs are their property.

Although, they do refer to the New Zealand Knights in their regulations

Anyway back to the point, yep they are a bunch a Nix supporters from Petone, they were sitting just in front of me at the Sydney game, they seem like a good bunch of people.

As Hard News said, have a chat to them at BB's before the game and I'm sure you'll find out if you can get a shirt or not.

So you're saying that it would be ok if they made the shirts with the Nix logo and then gave them away? That seems unlikely.

Rumour also has it that it was the FFA that demanded the new Wellington team go by the name of "The Phoenix". If true, just goes to show sometimes a bit of facisim isn't always a bad thing.

The evidence at the time was that that was the case.

Even while the Dom Post were running polls on the name, the FFA had already registered the wellingtonphoenix.com domain name.

Why would FFA require us to use the name "The Phoenix", do they requiry Perth to go by The Glory? or Melboune The Victory? Central Coast The Mariners?

what a crock, bloody Aussie bureaucrats!

We are The Wellington Phoenix, how silly does Wellington The Phoenix look???

Did anyone hear one of those petone fans with a real annoying, blatant bogan kiwi accent, yelling "cummmooon phoeeeenix!" She had a real throaty voice, it was a crack up.
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

No, it still counts as a breach of copyright. Companies tend not to go after non-profitable breaches as much, but they can force you to remove the offending material.

Amazingly, it is a wideheld view that copyright breaches are legal if there is no money being made. There is (or was) an informed discussion on this at Scott Adam's blog site.
