... I initially had a lot of respect for chch after that crowd but if I'm going to see it thrown back at us at every opportunity I am going to start to wish that the Phoenix played in front of 2,000 down there. Just because you live in the worse city in the country ...
South Island Sloths
On the first above paragraph:
Boo hoo hoo. A very selfish little man. Maybe you should think about how it gave something back to a guy who has invested a lot of money in the club and was a fantastic promotion for the Nix and the game in general. If you have a problem with the Chch crowd numbers and it has left you feeling a little insucure. There only one thing you can do, get more people to the welly games.
I was of course 100% serious, I wanted the Phoenix to suffer and I have no respect for Terry and what he has done for Football in this country.
I'm not insecure, I'm just sick of you ignoring the mitigating factors to rant and rave about it everywhere.
The novelty factor is proven by the fact that the Kings had their highest crowd in wellington with 13,000ish and the Phoenix have not held this figure as their average attendance.
Before you point out that this figure is smaller than your 19,000ish it is worth considering that when this match was played in 1999 or 2000 (News?) Football in NZ was in a relative wilderness, the team was no-where near the playoffs and no new stand was on show. Contrast this to the feel good factor of the World Cup qualification and us being on the cusp of playoff qualification for the first time.
In summary, if someone from chch pays for an A-League team and this team averages more than 19,000 across a season I will pay for my own flights from where ever I am in the world to come and eat my hat for the halftime entertainment of the opening home game of the teams second season.
Yes, I live in New Zealand. As such I can define a New Zealand city better than someone who has searched for city councils on wikipedia (although I'm sure most of the Wellingtonians on here will be happy that you disconnected the Hutts)
Of your list I would only count Dunedin as a real city (sorry invers you are still a town to me) I studied in Dunedin for a few years and would more than happily go back there over Christchurch.
Exactly right. But i still congratulate Chch on 19k,truly awesome. But it does not earn you the right to an annual game, why would it? That carrot was never dangled in front of you,so why try grab at it?
If for any reason in the future it is physically impossible for a game to be played at the RoF,then id would LOVE for it to be played in Chch again, its proven itself as a good footballing city that suports the game very well (better than some expected...the words "rugby town" were thrown around) and you deserve that,as well as any preseason cup games that we may get.
So by no means take it personally when people say we want our home games to be played at home.
