Phoenix are taking this opportunity not only to gauge how our players are going, but also to talk to possible sponsors, and promote the Phoenix to potential players. Also to create relations with other clubs apparently. Looking good!

Add to that the trip is paid.  I'm struggling to think of a negative.

well does anyone in China know what channel its on?/ What channel they normally play football on?

There is CCTV (Chinese Central Television), which covers the country, and then there are provincial/city TV stations such as BTV (Beijing Television), Tianjin TV and Guangdong TV (where Guangzhou is). I doubt CCTV would cover it, best bet would be the local TV stations, i.e. Tianjin TV and Guangdong TV.

However I have some discouraging news. The website for Tianjin TV is here - http://www.tjtv.com.cn/, and it only lists China vs Palestine at 8pm, no other football matches broadcast this weekend. I hope I am wrong and you can find it somehow.

For the second game next Tuesday, Guangdong Sports channel schedule is here - http://www.gdtv.com.cn/newpage/sports/ttdb.asp . Next Tuesday is not listed yet, if someone sends me a PM to remind me in a couple of days I will check back to see if it gets listed. Then it will be up to you guys to try and find it on a web streaming site!

Just had a quick squizz on the Tinajin Teda website http://sports.enorth.com.cn/teda/index1.htm

(in Chinese) and there is NOTHING about the Phoenix so Terry is probably right - it might be considered a training run for the team.  Back to work now but might see what is there (or not) for Guangzhou tonight.

That title is hilarious.

Listening to Crowther in that interview was hilarious.  Was so confident and used to talking in front of the camera (it seemed) he just sounded stupid.  Mad respect.

oh, man

what was Crowther looking at during an interview ??

or rather - what was he on ?

maybe that's just an Aussie thing - you have to make an ass of yourself on national T.V !!!

Junior82, Terry and SC03- you three understand the way things are run in China (and read written Chinese too perhaps?)
The Dom Post article here talks about a match promoter paying for the Nix to come over and play Tianjin and Guangzhou and "recouping the costs via match fees and Tv rights."

I just wondered.. would there be any clues if you searched the stadium websites (if any) for promoters events coming up then used the promoters links (if any) from those events to see if there's any mention of broadcast details or live-streaming sites for the Phoenix Games?
alternatively perhaps the promoter would sell rights to local betting websites live coverage service??
It was mentioned earlier that Saturday's game Tianjin time 5pm may just be a curtain raiser for  the National Team v Palestine game but, just a thought...??

RedGed,

Unfortunately the way things work in China is that there is always a lack of forward planining, information and poor promotion.

Also betting is illegal in China so there won't be links to betting sites from a local website.

Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals games vs Man united next weekend is on www.myp2p.eu  so there is a chance their game later on might be covered there also. UberGunner2009-07-17 19:07:10

According to the news pages in China the phoenix arrive 4 hours late at 5am yesterday and the first training was at 4pm local time yesterday.

The game with Tianjin is at 5pm local time (9pm NZ time) today and apparently it is the curtain raiser for the friendly between China & Palestine.

Still can't find any live broadcast info however the second game will be live on TV everywhere in CHN.

Conditions are going to be tough. It's bright sun here today and forecast high in Tianjin is 35 degrees (it won't cool down much if at all by 5pm). It's quite humid as well, good preparation for playing in Townsville and for the All Whites in the team for the Middle East later in the year.

For those that are going to tune in, I believe the game starts at 9PM NZ time.
