That third goal was pretty unstoppable. Crowther was fully to blame for the second though.

watching it again he was a good metre away from it he dosnt seem to move his feet right and is very slow to react.

Is it possible for any of this to be put up on youtube?

Also dived to his near post for some reason on the first goal. Was savable thought it's harsh on him to say it was his fault (wasn't - it was Siggy's if anything. Poor defending)

All I know is that we need to settle on a settled CB partnership. Some very encouraging play from the likes of Hearfield, Leo and even Rojas when he came on has me reasonably confident we'll score goals this season. I like the look of Greenacre too. Nothing flashy but you can tell he will be very reliable.

Showed signs of being good enough.

Yeah, he was obviously unfit but I think he showed a few signs of promise in difficult conditions. We were long balling to him and he never really had the ball to feet many times. Worked hard tracking back. Not sure we need a player like him though.

Potty training is over, and Paston between the sticks please.

Otherwise some good signs. They played for 90mins much better than in Tianjin, where they faded after 70.

no false dawns this pre-season so far thank goodness - actual signed up team members showed plenty of promise in this game for the season ahead (which is when we actually want to win some games this time around!). Great to see some action at last, and I say it again, great to see us playing in proper football shirts as well - don't think the names in Chinese on the back will catch on though (but would make good collectors item!).  Roll on the season - go the nix!

Really I won't mind either way if we sign asian guy. I think he has the skill at this level so its up to ricki to assess weither he can get fit enough to be a valued player.

I know that the score is what happens on the day, but in terms of creating opotunities we should have won, bertos' and herfields would have made it 4, which we couldnt ever get last season in the league. 3 was the most if I recall correctly. Im definetly more cofidence than I was after watching the mainland game. sh*t that was bad.

will "asian guy" be touring to dubbo?

Agree that he was a bit moody. Probably due to the fact he was getting long balls but yeah, if he's moody during a trial it's probably a safe bet he'll be worse during the actual season.

This is my concern about Chinese players. They tend to prefer going to karaoke and partying than training properly (and I guess you can add playing with PSP's as well). I hope ricki has a look at this guys attitude off the pitch as well as what he did tonight and in Dubbo (assuming he is making the trip).

Permalink Permalink

3-2 to the Chinese team, Greenacre and Durante with our goals.

3-2 loss apparently. Just read through.
Greenacre and Durante.
Hearfield goal disallowed.

And Potty was sh*te

There should be no way that Potty comes back. Hopefully we look at this Chinese kid properly, but take the same steps we did with the other players, and take our time to fill this last gap

I'd like to think lessons have been learn't... and we're beginning to see the evidence of that also, ie: no talk about 'targets' until signing and trialling players who aren't of demonstrated ability/capability of performance... I would imagine if there's any questions over the chinese player they'd let him go and wait until the right player comes along - and not take the punt with the possible negative impact that the wrong player can have, as we saw last year - and are still seeing fallout from now.

Sounds like the Potty training didn't quite work either... though again, that adds to the experience of the management team when looking at potential recruits so can't be a bad thing!

Impressive effort last night....from everyone on here I mean.
Jeez... after midnight on a week night and 60+ people on the Nix Forum, watching the game..
and buzzing from the Ifill announcement.
After nearly 6 months cold turkey it feels a football season coming on.. bloody marvellous!

Bad Luck with the 3-2 Loss. Watched a bit of the match on video, but my internet wasn't fast enough and had to wait for it too buffer. But can't wait for the season going to be brilliant!

Melb lost 2-1 to Tianjen and also lost 2-1 to Guangzhou btw. Funnily enough Langerak made a howler of a mistake in the Guangzhou game too. valeo2009-07-22 11:23:43

Guangzhou is not bad in China Football Super League. Promoted first division 1 the year before, good construction on the team. Formal China U23 head Coach Xiangfu Shen, dad said he was a excellent Wing player so his team never conservative.

Jeez!  One Lellei does not make a Chinese National Team (OK, slightly weak arguement as the team is cr@p).  Quite a few comments from others showing some pretty dodgy generalisations or associations by country of origin.

Do you rate a whole country of players on the performance of one compatriot?

I think what should be learned from last year's experience is what is required to motivate any talented player (both on and off field) - so agree with you there SC03.

As an example I'm mightlily p!ssed off that the latest Man U signing has scored two goals in two games as opposed to when he was wearing black and white and scoring b*gger @ll especially at crucial times (and getting paid handsomely for it too).  That said I don't make comparisons with other English players (OK another weak argument as the team is also good at choking, but you know wot I mean?).

u right mate. When Leilei G** came I talked to one of the staff inside phoenix about China got more than 1000 players had the footy level which is similar as G**. But I means nothing on the football level of the counrty. We developed our professional football15 yrs b4, this is the result means have to be or must be. At the same time, quailty players means not only professional on the ground and changing room, also after the game. Talented player need to orgainze himself well to improve after he or she getting old (Like after 23 yrs old the football potential getting lower comparing with the yrs he was 18).

Its meaningless to compare other contries football to NZ football. Different situation and different system. We play our football

PS we still need a target man up front

There are plenty of very very talented footballers in China, but the issues with the game here are well documented already. I won't go there!

I think this whole China tour has been excellent. Good for the team to travel somewhere, and get everything sorted before the season against difficult opposition in challenging conditions. I hope they do this every year.

Highlights clip of the Guangzhou match showing goals here - http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTA3MDY1MzMy.html

Could not see any clips of the Tianjin match.
