Rickie said that Greenie is playing so well at the moment that he might have some playing role next season. Its true he is playing well. But he will be 35 at the end of this year and to retain him as a player would be a huge huge call.

IMO opinion the whole thing is in limbo....Greenie does not yet have an A licence so can't take the assistant coach role...he would take a valuable import slot if retained as a player. I think the club needs to be pragmatic and think of the future. We really need to use the  import slots to recruit some quality and pace up front.

Greenies best hope is to remain at the club as some sort of 3rd coach/youth development role. He would be great IMO. The problem will be if Welnix can see enough value to fork out the salary for this position.

Would only take up an import spot though if the club intend bringing more people in.Not sure about how long Warner is signed for but i would much rather Greenacre have an import spot than him.Given the service he has provided this season dont see why we should expect much less from him next season,35 is only a number.

Warner is on a 1 season contract. And I doubt he will be re-signed.

We have 4 import slots, Ifill is signed up to be one of them already. Sanchez and Smith are talking with the club apparently. That leaves us 1 slot available, that cries out for a striker to fill it.

We have been short a striker all season, that is why Greenacre has played so much. Re-signing him would leave us with the same problem, needing another quality striker who is an Aussie or Kiwi. Looking at what is available, there just isn't any around for us to sign. So unless we unearth a gem from nowhere, we will need to bring in quality from overseas.

Was just thinking that today. We could potentially get him and Ifill citizenship and no longer imports?

How had I overlooked this??

Aren't the football rules different from citizenship rules?
If they weren't we could just bride dodgy officials to sign off on all sorts of imports and claim them as local?
How long have we had Greenie and Ifill now, Ifill will be almost naturalised by the time his new contract ends won't he?
A bit old but hell if he don't take an import who cares?

Well, comparing our coaching staff  with the AW's & I'd say Greenie can slot in no probs(hope that applies to todays game, as well)

He is playing well at the moment. So if he can contribute on the pitch he must be in line for re-signing.
If Greenie stays that takes 1 import slot. Ifill and probably/possibly Sanchez take 2 more. That leaves 1. Does that mean Smith gets the chop? If not then we don't have room to strengthen the squad next year with an import.....which may not be the best way to go.

Tricky situation....an import must start. So you need to be sure that Greenie can contribute every week on the field....no point having an import as a part time player.

Cant we just buy an import with a decent engine then who applies pressure if this is what he brings. Love Greenie but not sure how this is going to play out for us. raynes2012-02-24 13:37:43

If Greeny () gets NZ citizenship before next season and doesn't count as an import then he would be great to have off the bench, mentoring younger players and moving in to a coaching role.

If he takes up one of the 4 import spots next year that would indicate to me a disappointing lack of ambition by the club - unless we already have a bloody good Australasian striker lined up.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Does he really need one? Kosmina doesn't have this either.

Time for this rise to the top. With his ever creasing of influence at traing and games he deserves some mention as our suing style develops .

In training games he has a lot of positive influence on how they play. This is great to see. He and Trani must compliment each other well

"complement"

Otherwise in my mind I have this rather uncomfortable conversation between the gents which ends in a mutual oiling and massage session.

I'm really intrigued as to how on this planet you arrived at that J82. Not because of the Subject matter but how you managed to get around to that. That's just from somewhere else :o)

If I was to answer that in a vaguely serious way it would look something like the James Burke Connections principle:

1. Finbarr Saunders outlook

2. Spitting Image book (body building segment)

3. Shooting Stars (random dove from above process)

4. Probably some Alexei Sayle thrown in because he's the same Scouse nationality as Greenie.

Don't let Greenie hear you call him a Scouse. He is a Yorkshireman.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

That would explain why he supports Leeds United.

Oh dear, poor man, we'll have to encourage him to seek solace with another team to support. Huddersfield Town for example.

Well if he is he is doing a piss poor job!

What is it 13 goals in 10 games?.....if you look back at these, lots of them are wonderstrikes by Brockie or Stein scoring by running on to through balls. In ten games I can't recall too many scintilating team goals. Stein looks to be technically our best ever striker.....you would think the plan would be to frequently get him into scoring positions. Last match he spent much of the match with his hand in the air trying to get people to pass him the ball....and then he gets hauled off for being ineffective.

But we can't criticise Greenie because everyone thought he was such a good choice as assistant coach and besides he's such a top bloke!!

I remember a few people getting slagged off who suggested that appointing an assistant with almost no coaching experiance might not have been the right option.

I remember a few people thinking he'd do a good job and a few people thinking he wouldn't, and a whole bunch of people being meh about it.

Which is nothing to do with his performance as coach now.

To be honest, the biggest problem right now - and something which has always been our problem - is the fact we have to resort to hoofing it over our midfield because of their inability to make passes stick.

Sign Fat Carlos imo.

Can we judge what wellnix do?
Can we judge what the fever do?
Can we judge anything?
