Explain to me why the phoenix NEED to develop NZ talent? They are a club that will pick the best players for the job (try to anyway). They shouldnt be used as a new zealand development team

We don't NEED to but it's one advantage we have that we don't get the most out of.  New Zealand players are an import for the Aus sides whereas they are not here, plus it is easier for us to spot and develop a talented New Zealand player than other A-League sides.

Aus state league players have 10 (or 9 or 11) A-League clubs evaluating them as potential options, particularly with the national youth league and larger squads.  New Zealand players at the same level have just the Phoenix looking at them.

Psycho (Pav) being an example.  If the other A-League sides didn't want him having seen him for Newcastle last year and in the NSWPL as well, then why did we?  Is there a better - or as good an - option lurking somewhere in NZ?

Happy that these two have been called up and hopefully they'll get a chance to impress. What concerns me is that we supposedly have only 13 players avaialble for this game from a greater squad of 20 odd.

9 players unavailable, and the max squad size is (i think) 23. Would give us 14 even if we were full at the start. As News says above, i'm sure if Terry was in a bit better cash position we probably would have had an injury replacement or two earlier.

Is this still true? I have seen multiple occasions that would suggest otherwise. CCM and McGlinchy for example? Does Brockie or Kosta have Aus Citizenship? Neither of these seem to be in as import players...

Stlll true.

Kosta is an import, McGlinchey is an import.  Moss, Smeltz are not.  Brockie I'm not sure on, his time between Sydney and the Fury back in NZ makes me think he is an import still.

Im pretty sure currently Kiwis are NOT import players. One of the criteria for us to play in the ACL was to make it so Kiwis WOULD become import players, hence that debate a while back about how we would only end up with 3 or so Kiwis in the Nix. The same criteria for Kiwis in the A-League is stil that of pre Asia Australia

I can 100% guarantee you that an NZ player without Aus citizenship IS an import for any A-League side other than the Phoenix.

You're confused. Kiwis are NOT import players only for the Nix - they are import players for every other club. That's the privilege the ACL wanted to take away from us.

Should also be noticed that Alec Solomons picked up an ASB Premiership deal from it and Justin Gulley his first ASB Premiership start as well.

I think it's done some pretty good things for the first year.

^That's great to see. Is it likely for Lovemore and Clapham to get game time tomorrow? Really look forward to see how they go, hopefully stepping up on the bigger stage and leading to better things for them both.Good Luck.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Absolutely. Two very good NZFC players who deserve the chance. More to come I hope

Oh and Nelson first division player Jordan Yong could make ASB Premiership next year. Even though he only played one game for the reserves.

HAHA, I laughed aloud at that and creeped out my friend.
Our ginger is.. just.. cooler in everyway though, that fake over to to the left isn't a real ginger, he's got blonde, but Clapham has proper ginga hair. Good lad.

Injured- Diego, Paston, Lia, Pav, Ifill, Leo.  Bansticked - Siggy, Manny, Dura.

Fair list.  Imagine we might have signed some longer-term cover if Terry's finances weren't quite so sticky.

I talked to Diego's Mrs just the other day. He is not injured at all.

More fool him, then. He could be on the field against Sydney tomorrow if he wasn't sulking in his tent like Achilles.
