Oh, how good would Ramon be. Let's get him in the Black and Yellow.
I don't think he'll ever get the required licenses

Isn't going to happen, ever. Let is go to sleep.
Jose was supposed to be getting his licenses this year, if the FFA is running the courses and Greenacre's been over then perhaps Jose has been too.

perhaps this perhaps that, he was interviewed on the radio and said he still didnt have the correct license so he's not applying for the job anytime soon.
Sorry if speculation offends you.

Jose Figueira was interviewed on the radio in relation to the Nix job?
Apologies if this has appeared already, but there's a bit at the bottom of the page about the coaching situation, don't know how much truth there is in it.
I'm a bit disappointed Marco Kurz name wasn't mentioned, I think he would be better than the names in the story and it's been reported that he's interested in continuing in the A League.
I like his passion and he does seem to be able to work with players to improve their ability. (Galloway being an example this year at Adelaide)

Rising from ashes
Wellington Phoenix have wasted no time in looking for a replacement for Mark Rudan after he announced his departure from the club at the end of the season, citing family reasons behind his
Related Articlereturn to Australia. Sources close to the club suggest they have renewed their interest in Perth Glory assistant Hayden Foxe, who was close to joining the club as coach last year. Foxe was previously held an interim head coach role at Western Sydney Wanderers, having been assistant to Tony Popovic there. Former Socceroo Ross Aloisi is another fancied by the Phoenix, along with Warren Joyce of Melbourne City, although he is reportedly close to signing a contract extension.
Rudan suggested he will continue coaching in Australia and has been linked with the vacant position at A-League newcomers, Western United.
Don't know a lot about Fox as a coach, but no thank you to the others mentioned.
From memory he did alright with WSW as caretaker, maybe he was undefeated? and was replaced by Gombau who did terribly.
Joyce and aloisi? Jesus wept. Know nothing about foxe.
He was the guy (Fox) that used to wear that ridiculous outfit, shorts etc on the sideline wasn’t he?
Didn’t realise he had such a distinguished playing career though

Yep, coaching wise that was pretty much all I remembered him for.

Record here.
Age 41 (kids?!); defender (a good thing in a manager IMO).
Three draws - Sydney, Newcastle, and Mariners and a win vs Perth. Too few games to say much. Yes, downhill when Gombau took over.
Assistant manager (trainer?) under Popovic for 90 games so might have learned something but OTOH only four games running a team in a competitive league.
Risky choice, basically unproven. Would rather they chose someone who's experienced and successful. Rudan's NPL record inspired confidence.
Was a good player but injury ridden especially later on in his career from memory. Yeah the most ridiculous outfit ever, short shorts and long socks up to his knees...
He is a bit unproven as coaches go but he's had good experience as an assistant
Foxe would be better than many of the other options. He won't try and change a whole lot of what's working where some of the more experienced options likely would want to. Also with Greenie and the team could be a straight swap with Rudes. Knows the league well, etc etc.
Could absolutely do worse, not sure we could do better.
Any rumours around ?
Needs to be a hungry Oz coach (like Mark R) who either wants to make a name for themselves after serving their time as an assistant A League coach, or wants to prove a point (ie maybe missed out on Oz top job options which have been going over the last few months).
Cannot and won't be a Kiwi. Don't start me on the Warriors.

As Rudan has shown. For any up and coming Aussie coach, the phoenix is only ever going to be seen as steeping stone into a bigger coaching role in Oz. I'm not sure thats the answer, particularly an assistant coach. I'd prefer Buckingham and Greenacre over an unproven Oz assistant coach like Ross Aloisi for example.
Someone like Kurz though that is different. Experienced A league campaigner with a decent track record.

Richard Parkin in this week's podcast, offers some great insight into who he thinks should be the next Nix coach. Sort of flows on from a question from Craig Foster, in that he can't really see "what the Nix as a club stand for".
Parkin basically says that the club should go back to having a very strong 'Kiwi brand'. Which means the coach should be from NZ, with a strong core of Kiwi/AWs players. That at least gives the club a distinct point of difference, and a recognised culture/value set. He seemed to be pushing Buckingham from memory (did listen a few days ago, so forget exact detail). Thinks the new coach needs to be given licence to have a min 3 year plan, for some stability and to shape the side and NZ centric culture.
He also identified the problem of a young Aussie coach, not hanging around long, esp if successful like Rudan.
If time poor, just listen to podcast from about 40 minute mark.

Yeah basically Richard Parkin (who seems to know workings of NLWG far better than most), predicts Nix will survive and be given the longevity we all crave.
It will unfortunately still be a continous emotional roller coaster (good news/bad news/good news) for the next few months, but mid-longer term it looks promising.
Basically the clubs will have balance of voting power over the state Feds, but will take a few months at least (maybe longer) before things are more certain. June 30th I think is the next important date.
If time poor, just listen to podcast from about 40 minute mark. Worth it.

Uh huh.
Who is Coach Hunt, and whats he done lately?
From the stands it looked like City's assistant coach, Tony Vidmar, the man Rudan reportedly recommended WelNix look into as his successor, was having a good chinwag to a few of the Nix players on the pitch after full time.
Inasmuch as Tony Vidmar ticks some of the boxes, his coaching track record to date is not exactly awe-inspiring.
I agree with earlier comments here that we could do worse than Vidmar. But would he be any better than Kurz? Vidmar could not exactly cut it at the Reds some seasons ago, while Kurz got them to a very respectable fourth place this year.

Tony's never managed Adelaide, you must be thinking of Aurelio.
Dont think Rudans was 'awe inspiring" before he took the job.

Ah, yes, of course. My bad.
Dont think Rudans was 'awe inspiring" before he took the job.
I thought he had a decent track record at NPL level..
It is an interesting question though. Is a good track record as an assistant at a HAL level more important, or a good track record as a head coach at a lower (NPL) level more useful?
Or is it more important to have perhaps external people assisting with coach selection, on assumption that we may not have the right skillset to choose them? Did the same people select Rudan that selected Kalezic?
Strong NZ presence like the Kingz, Knights, yeah right. What do we stand for? Wellington and the Phoenix. Forget that " I want a squad of NZ players only" mentality. I want a winning club mentality.

That's not what he was saying, he was saying we want a coach who is committed and will make use of our advantages to build a team.
Des isn't a not a New Zealander but he's committed to the country.

I'll believe that when I hear it from the FFA and the Aussie state federations. All the press from across the Tasman is saying that the state feds are saying "you can have your Kiwi team, OR you can have more broadcasting money, choose wisely".
But the clubs have the say not the state federations.

No, the deal is that the clubs' proposal for an independent A-League has to be approved by the state feds. See the thread elsewhere on this forum.

Worth noting that Richard said on the podcast that he still isn't sure we'll get an extension and that is why he won't put it down in writing.
