Yeah basically Richard Parkin (who seems to know workings of NLWG far better than most), predicts Nix will survive and be given the longevity we all crave.

It will unfortunately still be a continous emotional roller coaster (good news/bad news/good news) for the next few months, but mid-longer term it looks promising.

Basically the clubs will have balance of voting power over the state Feds, but will take a few months at least (maybe longer) before things are more certain. June 30th I think is the next important date.

If time poor, just listen to podcast from about 40 minute mark. Worth it.

The governance model needs to be approved by a FFA congress without the A-League clubs (28 votes) or the PFA (7 votes) present, leaving the power in the hand of the state federations (55 votes) and the Women's Football Council (10 votes). It appears a 75% majority is needed to approve the governance model, meaning as few as three state federations acting in concert can prevent it from passing.

From page 28 of the Congress Review Working Group

1. The CRWG considers that, subsequent to endorsement by the FFA Board, there is likely to be a constitutional requirement for the final governance model and associated financial and licensing arrangements to be approved by the FFA Congress by Special Resolution

2. The CRWG recommends that the Special Resolution be drafted and agreed by the FFA Board and the APFCA in consultation with the other NLWG members.

3. The APFCA and PFA CRWG Members have agreed in principle that the meeting of Congress that would consider that Special Resolution would not be attended by APFCA FFA Members nor by PFA FFA Members and that a quorum would be achieved through the attendance of Member Federation FFA Members as well as the Women’s Council FFA members.

4. The required 75% prescribed majority would need to be achieved by the quorum of Congress in order for the Special Resolution to be passed.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

Oops, just saw that AV has clarified this.

I thought Richard said the clubs had the majority, must of missed it.

Feels like there's a story waiting to be written here, AV?

I get from this that the state federations apparently have the 'voting' power, for the next step(s) at least. But, where do the incentives lie for each of the parties / groupings? Presumably the state feds want more money for the game at their level? How do they achieve that? My guess is they'd be paddling up shark creek without APFCA/PFA FFA members on side.

Not for the first time, the independent A League issue finds it's way into the wrong thread! And, yes, I'm guilty.

It's a pretty complicated web of competing agendas, and I think it'd be fair to say that no-one right now knows how it's going to play out.

Another big spanner in the works is FOX, which is going to be consulted about the proposed new league model as well, and which has already fired a shot to the league saying that they can't assume that the next TV deal will be better than the current one - in fact, they said if the things don't improve, it could turn out to be worse.

Ultimately whatever deal is struck in the end, it'll be based on a compromise. And where everyone's bottom lines there will be - guess we will find out.

Richard Parkin in this week's podcast, offers some great insight into who he thinks should be the next Nix coach. Sort of flows on from a question from Craig Foster, in that he can't really see "what the Nix as a club stand for".

Parkin basically says that the club should go back to having a very strong 'Kiwi brand'. Which means the coach should be from NZ, with a strong core of Kiwi/AWs players.... He seemed to be pushing Buckingham

Sounds like marketing talk. Strong Kiwi brand just isn't practicable ATM.

Look at the non-NZ influences in the Nix starting XI:

                   Poland

Hungary England Australia Poland  Italy

           Switzerland   Spain

                    India

          Australia     Fiji

Not many out-and-out kiwis in the squad.

As for Buckingham, he isn't particularly kiwi, and my 2c says he made poor selections at age group level and when caretaker Nix manager.

Five of the best eleven are eligible to play for nz and a sixth came through the nz system and is a citizen.

More than half the team are kiwis.

An out and out kiwi is anyone who lives here and wants to be one.

Of  course not. They're definitely kiwis. I'm saying that they may have had the benefit of football culture from other countries, and all are or were eligible to play for NZ and another country.

Players who don't have this benefit don't seem to be cracking the first eleven in large numbers - right?

My point is that a 'strong kiwi brand' is not practicable until NZ gets a stronger football culture. Until then, club should just aim to be successful.

crazy how half these foreigners speak with a kiwi accent and were developed through the NZ football system, not the Hungarian or Indian system. Just because some of them don't have an Anglo-Saxon background or their families haven't been in New Zealand since the 1800s, it does not mean that it determines their football "influences". Surely your environment plays a much bigger part in development than whatever strange point you were making. All Kiwis are Kiwis, just some more than others?

Serious questions

There did appear to be a lot of "chatting" with our players after the game on Sunday.  I took that as a positive sign.  So, do we (if as rumoured) take Rudan's word that he is the man.

A lot of downers on here regarding Joyce.  If he is out of a job, why is he so bad an option?  Brings a lot of experience from both England and the A league.

I strongly believe that Kurtz would never come here if he was unhappy with the hierarchy at Adelaide.

Maybe a bit early for Roy based on current love but certainly for Dura.  Might be tough convincing Rugby dominated stadium management though.

Having said that prof, what has this got to do with the next coach and my questions?

Dura is close, just missing the local boy factor - longevity, influence on the club, length as captain, also conveniently has the number of the Fever Zone, so would be appropriate in that regard.
