Have you been talking to my wife again??

Seriously we shall finish that part of the conversation later in the year. I'll let you know when. You live in Wellington I assume?

Do indeed.....

Sorry you last post was over my head. What are you implying?

There have been very good points made in the last 24 hours. It is very easy to sit back and bag all the players and the coaching staff. However, the fact remains that there are a number of players who are not up to the standard of the A league. The thing that really gets me is that you would think that Herbert & Turner, who have played at the highest level should have knowm that when they signed these guys.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

so it's ok to bash the players, just not the coach...

No thats not what I am saying

I am saying

1: The coach isn't getting fired. Its written down, quoted, say it anyway you like. Its not happening. So why waste the energy
2: Support the team, don't knock them. Thats players, coaches, anyone.

After all bashing them on this forum has achieved what so far and seen us place where so far this year?? It serves no purpose other than going home and taking the frustration out on the wife/family/friend/pillow etc. I'm pretty sure the players do read this and maybe a different approach is required rather than reading 5000 fans saying 'you are sh*t'

I'm saying try being supportive rather than negative.
Dont really care if the players read this.As long as they continue to dish up the crap they have this season, they have to expect to cop some. Its nothing to what they would get in the UK if they dished up to fans what we have had to watch. Whats with us over here even the oval ball guys give the ABs sh*t when they are crap.Yet what us Phoenix fans are supposed to just accept our lot and be thankful.I just dont get it.
Yes i will be there every game for the rest of season bitching makes me no less of a fan than those who just except our lot.

What really concerns me is if this rubbish continues just how long do you think the FFA will keep us around, and given what the FANS have shown so far that just wouldnt be fair on us.

I dont think the FFA will get rid of you. I actually think perth will get kicked out before you guys. Theres still hope!

They are looking at expanding the league, not cutting it down. I'd rather pick the winner of the cup tomorrow, than pick who will get kicked out!

How often do they say it was the coaches fault, even at Spurs they didn't blame it on the coach and just said something needed to change. They changed there coach and looked what happened 3 games later, 2 wins (one against Liverpool) and 1 draw against Arsenal.

So...you are saying we'll draw with Arsenal if we change our coach?

The way Arsenal are playing, why not.

The worst part of losing to Perth is the fact that the clubs future is not set in concrete.  The Phoenix could easily become another Knights and I suspect that'd be NZ's last shot at pro football for a very, very long time.

In some respects the game 20 years ago was healthier than what it is today....

Can any of these people who want Ricki out give me a name of a suitable replacement?
Permalink Permalink

To be fair, there are a lot of potential managers in the world, who says the replacement has to be known to any one of us?

Any of whom are likely to come down here?

A lot of Aussie coaches would be willing to come over here for the chance to coach in the A-League i think, perhaps even some Asian coaches. But you are right about European or South American coaches.

If two new clubs have just started and one has hired Miron the mouth, and the other Ian Ferguson, do you think there is a hidden gem somewhere ?

Thats kinda what I was thinking but I wasn't going to start that argument about suitable replacements.

Retreads are all thats available and they are retreads for usually one reason - they failed where they were at previously.

So there is no A-league assistant or national age group representative coach in Australia who, having successfully served his apprenticeship, is looking to step up to an A-League head coach role ?

There is no head coach or assistant coach of a successful UK professional team who is interested in moving down under for him and his family to enjoy a better quality of life ?

I guess we'll never know if we don't look and no I don't have any names - it's not my job to know or find those names - that's what Tony's paid to do.

There is reason Australia have hired dutch coaches for pretty much all levels.

Timing of chants for optimist and pessimist:

Optimist

1 goal down  "Cmon Phoenix"
2 goals down "Cmon Phoenix"
3 goals down "Phoenix.. Phoenix"

Pessimist

1 goal down  "Who are ya"
2 goals down "We fell over"
3 goals down "We want......whoevers not playing"
4 goals down..."Same old Phoenix..always losing"

At the moment Im in the pessimist camp.......give them heaps rather than loyal allegiance no matter what..even tho that defines a fan.  Fans are all we have left..the other 4000 have voted with their feet and wallets.

I did get told off by other exec members yesterday for suggesting bringing a "we're sh*t and we know we are" banner...

They just don't appreciate self deprecating humour.

The whole scenario is laughable at the moment........as are reverse chants.

It would be interesting to know how many people are now actually paying to turn up and watch rathar than using a season ticket purchased earlier when hopes were high.....and has that changed in the last year match by match.  Football fans can be long suffering..very few are rewarded each year.  I got my Boro fix when we won Challenge Cup and got to UEFA cup final..only had to wait 127 years.

Perth are hanging on by a thread. Tony Sage will spend millions with a guarantee of no profit. If he gives up i doubt anyone will take over, and perth will go down. Unless this season perth make it into the top 4 or at least 5, then theres a good chance next season will be the last. They have already been warned by the ffa, google it. Welly hasnt been warned yet i dont think.

Not being familiar with the names I assume your point is they were examples of unsuccessful attempts at what I have suggested as a possibility.

We'll I guess we're screwed - no decent coaches who could potentially be available and successful appointments with the Nix in all Australia and the UK. I'm guessing the Aussies have already cleaned out the Netherlands and the rest of Europe is also barren.

I think you know I didn't mean that, I was just showing a recent case study that has worked and Arsenal and Liverpool are not crap teams.

Who do you suggest as replacement? Ross A

What are the regulations for the A league? Do coaches need their badges in order to coach an A league team? If so, Does Mr. A have this badge?

I would trawl through the thread but I gotta get my stupid nifty fifty started so I can get to work on time

How long do you reward failure? Would a coach in the EPL (any level) still have a job if his team had performed as poorly as the Nix so far since the club started?

Not necessarily the quality of the squad in question here - that's been well done to death in other threads - but Ricki's seeming inability to motivate the players he does have to deliver performances that at least show some guts and heart.

Lets see what happens in the next few matches. If we get rid of Ricki then the carbon footprint of all those disposed retro-ricki shirts would be staggering.
