There's speculation that Popovic is the front runner to take over at Sydney FC, a job I had seen earmarked for Rudan. If that's the case, I wonder if it might come down to a toss up between Vid and Rudan for the Nix job. Vid sounds high strung and volatile. Rudan, not so much.

This post made March 9th - this is the real Nostradamus right here. :)

Rudan Out ! Hey someone had to say it and I wanted to be first. I think he is a good signing and I note he said certain things are going to have to change. Sounded like a man not afraid to make the big decisions. Hope he doesn't sink us for Fox's benefit but gets us up into the top 2 or 3. Best wishes to him.

Hard to know what to expect as he's a little bit of an unknown quantity, but he seems professional and serious about coaching, and crucially we have quite a bit of cap flexibility and freedom around recruiting foreigners.

I hope we don't end up with another bunch of Australians, as I am really excited about the progress made with some of the younger kiwis last season.

Good to have a bit of the uncertainty lifted and it feels like the club have taken their time to get this right.

Hopefully he hits the ground running and we get some player announcements soon!

It would be nice to promote the young kiwis, but we need to win, so a good side to get us into the top 4 is all I'm concerned with at this stage. Obviously it would be ideal to have the young kiwis as a key part of the Nix moving forward though, but if he opts for foreigners who produce results I'm ok with that too.

Very happy with this appointment so far

He said in the press conference that he's well aware of the kiwi talent and the unique nature of our club. I think it will have a distinctly New Zealand flavour with a decent assortment of imports.

He sounds like exactly what we need right now.

I think in both the short term and the long term, there needs to be a kiwi core to our club

I do have that worry too; which is why I wish Ramon had his licenses. I don't want a bunch of bang average Aussies in the squad again.

This isn't about being jingoistic - there are 9 other teams chasing good aussies but we should have the market for kiwis locked down.  There are a bunch of kiwis in the US that would improve our team, let alone players in Europe.  Our recruiting strategy has been problematic for a while and I'd love to see us at leas try to get more kiwis back to the club

Why do people think that if the Nix had picked Ramon (assuming correct badges yadda yadda yadda) that he would have been the great redeemer for bringing young kiwis through?  Unless I'm seriously missing something ACFC have largely been import stacked for years?

Note - I still think he's a good coach and wouldn't have been at all disappointed if he had the correct badges and had picked up the gig.

I was not in favour of this name a while ago but considering the circumstances we find ourselves in, this is an ok outcome. At the very least it will quieten down Fox, FFA and mouth pieces that say the club is being sold off

We don't, but I think you'd say he knows the local scene much better than a coach who will never have watched a match in our league and is going to be much more familiar with Australian players

This. Ramon couldn't stack the squad with imports, so would have likely been more comfortable picking up kiwis rather than players from the Sydney local leagues.

I expect Rudan to sign the likes of Panny Nikas.

Declan = Ramon's BFF, Ramon = Declan's BFF

I think this is fine though, because most of the players we have already signed on for next season are kiwi. Now we can pad out the squad with a few more, some quality aussies and some good imports
