So the FFA have got all teams, Nix included to wear special shirts supporting Aussie WC bid.
With all the rumbling about the club's future in the a-league does anyone else feel a bit uncomfortbale that the phoenix are been used as pawns when the FFA might end up having to screw them to please the 'west asian mafia'. discuss.

I dont have a problem with it. And it isnt FFA that want the Phoenix out, its AFC. If it were up to the FFA the Nix would be there every season, so that arguement is irrelevant. The more publicity their bid gets can only be good for NZ, it would be a pretty cheap trip across the ditch for a WC.

Hamish, I actually think that's a very good point. AJ - the FFA might want us in the coompetition but it's about time they put their money where their mouth was and gave us some concrete support and some concrete assurances.

seems like two different (and ony partially related) points so far in the post
yes - we need more security from FFA in relation to the threats from the Asian Confed
and/but - yes a successful aussie world cup bid would be wonderful!

im sure blatter came out and said if the ffa and the phoenix want to be in the competition then the asain mafia cant do sh*t

yes. The AFC has no say in who plays in the a-league.

But they cant talk with their votes for the world cup.

But they do have a say in who competes in the Asian Champions League.
It might actually be a chance for the Phoenix & NZ Football to score some brownie points with the AFC.
If the nix and NZF are seen to be supporting a bid for an Asian world cup, they might soften their approach towards us.
Kind of a you scratch my back & I'll scratch yours situation.

Y dont Phoenix play in the oceania champions league, or wateva the equivilent is.. But still play in the a-league.... This seems like the most simplist option in which everyone is happy, but not quite estatic.

The O-League, we've tried but we are an Aussie club so can't play in Oceania

Are all the OFC teams amateur? Then that's an excellent reason for not incuding the Phoenix.Doloras2010-01-21 13:23:53

Yeah all the OFC teams are amateur. But we aren't allowed in to the O-League because they consider us too aussie and we can't go to the Asian Champions League because they consider us too kiwi

Rumours of big backroom shenanigans between Blatter and Bin-Hamman as well which could well be behind these sort of statements.

...and sport and politics mix again. I welcome you New Zealand, to the position of Oceania's new "Top Dog", and watch the political minefield you have now entered as "Kings of Oceania". The baton has been passed on...
(NOTE: anyone accuse me of being smart here, I'm not, just stating the fact that NZ is now the biggest nation in Oceania and has to deal with all this political sh.t). Pure fact, nothing else.

Everything FIFA does is backroom shenanigans! the problem is their is no iron-clad guarantees from either group, despite the fact the FFA say every club's licence is up for grabs
I look forward to seeing the crappy desgins anyway on the shirts, im not sure how much worse the Roar kit could get so it will be interesting and as for how they change NQ's vomit kit that will be a sight indeed

ccms and melbournes don't look too bad, I hate to think what they've done with Perth's purple stripes and our yellow and balck stripes.

So the question is, are we in yellow or black mainly
Permalink
Yellow you would think, maybe something looking similar to season 1 and 2s strip if it was black however?

I would have thought it would have to be yellow. Assuming that stripes are out of the question, if Perth's is mainly purple then I'd think we'd probably be wearing a lighter colour.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Thats rough, some of them are quite cool. They could have talked to NZF and maybe done one with a Maori design for us while still incorporating the come play thing

The idea is promoting Australian imagery as part of the campaign, so a Maori design wouldn't really fit (though I agree it would look cool).
I'm not a fan of including green - makes it a bit TOO Australian to seem appropriate for a New Zealand based club. Yellow and white (or yellow and black) alone would have been fine and still be within the theme.

Yeah, don't know why they have the fade through green. Just black fade to yellow, or yellow fade to white. Would have been way better then

The shirt isn't to bad, I'd potentially buy it.

For that alone those f**kers better give us another ten years in this league.
