Man that's awesome. Shows we can still be an international path for Aussie players.

Great for Dura and McKain, well deserved, unlike some of the others I am about to mention.

Would have recalled John Aloisi instead of McBreen. Even Bollcok puncher, after being Beijing Guo'an's top scorer he must be wondering what he has to do (get a new personality perhaps - but in footballing terms he has to be ahead of McBreen!).

There are some duds in there as well. What have DeVere, Jamieson Kantarovski, Marrone, McKay, Musialik, Matt Thompson and Michael Zullo done to deserve a Socceroos call up? I suppose Pim has to pick someone!

Matt Thompson is the most capped player in the A-league.
Zullo Broke a Kiwis leg.
Not sure about the rest

No chance of sky televising it?  I wouldn't think so but I emailed them anyway.

Joel Griffiths, though an arse, should have made the squad ahead of a few of them.

Great to see Colosimo in the squad.

The Kennedy in the squad is not Ben Kennedy is it?

I agree!! I was chatting to Marius about this on Friday. Another year or so and he could play for the All Whites if he wanted. Even though hes an Aussie through and through, as a professional footballer what would you rather do? Play 3 games for a 'home based' Socceroo side or be the first name on the team sheet and a chance to play in some big World Cup qualifiers for us? There are others as well. I think Troy Hearfield would start for the All Whites at right back right now. Hed walk into the team.
Would they want to? I dont know. I'd be interested in others views on this one.

For me Durante is a VERY close 2nd to Ifill for player of the year.

This is so good

Although im gutted as well that dura wont now become available for the AWs...

It shows the australians that they can come here and make their national side. I bet there's been offers turned down in the past partly because they thought if they came here they'd have less of a chance of making it into the aussie squad. Also may go a long way to persuading mckain to stay on at the nix... he hasnt re-signed yet has he?

Congratulations Andrew Durante and  Jon McKain.
With the performances you've been putting in for the Phoenix lately I'm not surprised.
Thoroughly deserved, I selfishly would love to have had you guys playing for NZ if you were able but the opportunity to represent your own country is fantastic.
Well done, good on you!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

While I do agree I don't want us to turn into one of the gulf states who have average players but will take Brazilians (and others not quite good enough for their country) at the drop of a hat.

I mean, with Daniel he loves the country so fair enough.  Durante probably likes Wellington but I haven't heard him say 55 times (like Daniel) how much he likes it and wants to live here so it wouldn't be as genuine if he was to play for us.

Having said that, it doesn't matter how I feel.  There are some great players out there who we could get.  Hearfield is surely worth a look.

dont you have to get on the park b4 you can only play for the one country. I doubt both dura and mckain will start and centre backs often watch an entire game from the bench. Here's hoping mckain starts and dura watches the whole 90. then no games for a league based socceroos squad for a year or two and he jumps on the AWs train

I can see Dura coming on in the 3rd minute of injury time... but who cares - good on him if he does, and potential win for the AWs if he doesn't

First of all, congratulations to both! they thoroughly deserved it!

secondly, when COULD hypothetically Durante play for the AW's? Don't you have to live in a country for 5 years before you can represent it? How old would that make him?

Hearfield, on the contrary, would be a tasty RB/Winger for the AW's..but he's played for Junior National Aussie teams in the past so would he want to???

i didnt realise it was a 25 player squad. good news. 5 or 6 wont even travel and they have got North and Colosimo (who will probably start as CBs, although im guessing) plus mckain, dura and devere. so good chance he doesnt play.

Rory and Wee Mac seemed to get past that 'block'  (not Aussie per se, just the junior intnl thing)but i guess you could be right in that those two have more of a Kiwi birth connection Troy does

Yep, i think FIFA changed it recently from 3 to 5. Daniel was told he wouldnt be able to represent NZ for this WC, and would have to wait until the next. Otherwise he would probably be going to SA this year.

ffs. (yes, yes I know - Fallon/McGlinchey/Smith - but at least they have some tangible ties to the country)

I'd rather the All Whites isn't used as a last ditch attempt at international football by Aussie pros.

Big congrats to Dura and McKain - gotta be better than Milligan and North.

DeVere has been pretty good in Moore's absence, Jamieson has been crap but has come into form again the last couple of games, Marrone is class imo and underated, Kantarovski is a promising young player, McKay is a work horse, Musialik is probably the classiest DM in the league, Matt Thompson is reliable and has played well this season, Zullo - agreed

True. It's unbelievable to me that Jade North continues to be selected.

I'm especially pleased for Durante - it's a fantastic reward for a season of consistently fine performances, and obviously something he has been dreaming about for a long time. Also it is reassuring to know that Verbeek has finally taken notice of the talent the Phoenix possesses.

Fantastic for Dura and McKain and sooooo deserved !!

Great for the Nix - current and prospective Aussie internationals can come to the Nix and know they will still be on the national selector's radar.

They will both be buzzing for this weekend's game !!!

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

What's wrong with naturalised players, if we don't have any local talent that's up to scratch?
Are we saying Daniel will never make the All Whites now?

Obviously the players choose to play for Australia, and that's awesome, the definitely deserve their spots.
