i didnt realise it was a 25 player squad. good news. 5 or 6 wont even travel and they have got North and Colosimo (who will probably start as CBs, although im guessing) plus mckain, dura and devere. so good chance he doesnt play.
Don't often disagree with you Bucks, but I hope they both play the full 90 and many more games for Australia.  They're Australians - proud Australians - who just happen to play for the Phoenix and live in NZ. Yes, it would be nice to have players of their quality eligible for NZ, but I'm rapt for Durante in particular that he's been given the chance to earn a Socceroos cap.  He's been one of the best central defenders in the league this season - on a par with Colosimo I reckon.  I hope Pim starts him with Colosimo at CB.

Good on both of them, they have been playing well and been noticed.

I would love to see them play for Australia, I'd rather a current Socceroo in our Nix team who has forced his way in, than one seeing out time to play for NZ. The experience of playing at that level would be good for both of them.

Pick them both Pim, go on I dare you

Assuming Dura and McKain get a cap our list of past and present full internationals looks pretty impressive;

New Zealand; Paston, Sigmund, Lochhead, Brown, Bertos, Mulligan (I know, I know)

Australia; McKain, Durante

Barbados; Ifill

Ivory Coast; Dadi

Malta; Muscat

11 full internationals and a few (anyone know who / how many ?) youth internationals.

Troy Hearfield, Vince Lia and Michael Ferrante have youth Aussie caps.

And Marco as a Kiwi youth?

Troy: Aussie U-20 14 games 6 goals
Aussie U-23 4 (2)

Vince Lia: Aussie U-20 21 (5)
Aussie U-23 4 (0)

Ferrante: Aussie U-17 3 (0)
Aussie U-20 10 (8).

He may well be further up the pecking order than im guessing. and yeah understand he's an aussie and would be as proud as punch. But i would still love to have him involved in our next WC campaign. anybody who has lived 5 years in a country, made it his home and skippered that country's only professional fooball side would be a legitimate and welcome addition. I just hope if he gets picked by verbeek it doesnt end up being the only international football he ever plays. that would be a shame.

I know this is unlikely due to the form of Colosimo but wouldn't it be awesome if both Durante and McKain started in defence together for Australia?

So how many are going to be cut from the squad?  7?  I thought it's often an 18 man squad.

Not sure what the final AFC sqaud numbers are, but as the game is local (i.e brisbane) then travel costs for the players named is not going to be 'huge'.

Not surprised that Durante got a call up, McKain hmmmmmm, he was tried a few years ago but didn't set the world on fire, call him up anyway, at least Pim can see him in camp and assess him properly. His butt (Pim's) is on the line, not mine!

You'd think our chaps would be in ahead of Luke DeVere wouldn't you?  Everyone used to rave about Jade North but he never overly-impressed me so hopefully he's on the bench as well.  Colosimo, though, will nearly certainly start.

Dura better play the full 90 or not at all.  I would be very pissed (and I would hope that he would be too) if he came on after the 80th minute thus insuring that he could never represnt NZ but may never represent Aussie again either.

so, in theory, if he doesn't take the park this time round and doesn't get called up again he could play for AWs at 30 (and in time for 2014 qualifiers)

but for the player I hope he manages to sneak into the Aussie SA squad (he's got his chance to at least stake a claim in training)

Now that he's been named in an extended Australian line up does that not make him ineligible for NZ even if he doesn't make the final cut? (Assuming he accepts is call up, which he will).

But what about if someone is named in the 23 man squad for the World Cup or the major regional cups? Surely that ties them to that country?

Also I seem to recall rules about being in the 'A' international team over 21 makes you ineligable for anyone else.

Bit murky these days. Tim Cahill broke the original barriers in 2004, and the second wave of FIFA amendments benifitted you guys last year to get the likes of Fallon,McGlinchey and Co.

The 21 age is the old rule that was wiped last year d_s, that's how Fallon and co became eligible for us

There you go. I knew something changed last year but couldn't remember what. freddy Kanoute was another bloke that benefitted from the original (Tim Cahill vs FIFA) case in 2004.

Who instigated the 2nd wave of changes from 2009, FIFA, or a member nation?

dangerously off topic here ... but id heard it was the african nations fed up with european teams taking their kids for junior sides and them discarding them but too late for them to ever represent their country of birth.

This is a very interesting point - like News, I have always been under the impression the only thing FIFA counted was actually getting on the pitch in a full international (not an internatioal friendly). But it would be good to know what FIFA regulations say about this possibility, I may have a look later.

Once you've declared for a nation I'm pretty sure you're stuck with it, even if you never get selected. Could be wrong though.

Do you happen to play a lot of FM?

You need to get on field to be tied to that nation. If you go and watch from the pine and not play then you are still free for your 2nd/3rd nation

Bloody stoked for both of them, and the club - it's always concerned me that non-selection of Phoenix players for Socceroos duties could be a barrier to signing Aussie players.
