We need to start locking in players.

I imagine Roy will be in for a pay rise, probably at the expense of Gui who will be let go at the end of the season.

Still not sure about AK but he looks good so far and if he keeps scoring goals at the rate he has been we are going to want to keep him, He's second in the golden boot race atm.

Probably want Mullen as well, preferably as a squad player. A few we probably want to keep. And the U21s too assuming their still under 21.

Dura and  Finkler free up a foreign spot and probably a fair chunk of cap space between them. Is that enough to go shopping with or would we have to let other go as well?

While Dura is a current international and team captain, I can see nothing else happening but him being re-signed or him retiring - they will not get rid of him.

If we resign him as cover I have no qualms. Probably going to get flack for saying this, but he shouldn't be a starter. Like with Siggy, he's passed his use by date and we need to look forward to the future.

I expect Dura to retire at the end of the season personally. Just a gut feeling. I hope he stays involved with the club in some capacity though. Or goes into the media as a commentator or columnist or something.

That has been my impression as well - especially after his most recent groin injury there seemed to be an attitude of "he'll just soldier through as by the end of the season it won't really matter" - but it's all hearsay.

I suspect, as for the majority of ageing players, he will have to consider a) how his body is holding up and b) what kind of professional targets he is likely to achieve by playing on for a year or two (e.g. another A-League title, WC participation etc).

Maybe he could help Siggie out with his work helping retired players (or do a job in the HandyPrem like Iffy?)

pretty sure he said something about getting into coaching after he retired, he also said that if he wasn't involved with the club after he finishes playing, he'd go back to Sydney as that's where is wider family is

Does siggy still do that? I think he works for one of the tech businesses down stairs from my work.

Think I saw someone on here say he now has his own football kit business (Kitman?)

I was assuming Dura retires at the end of the season, he'll be 36 come next season and spends an increasing amount of time out injured, It's hard to imagine that he still around come next season.

He is greatest servant of club full stop, his chapter with the club is most of the book so I wouldn't release him if he was intent on playing another season.

Agree with all in bold, but I'd like us to re-sign Mullen, Dura and Rufer as well. Mullen looks great, if he continues like he has it's a no brainer. I like Rufer, I think there's something about him, and Dura is just a club legend, he has to re-sign if he continues playing.

I look at McGlinchey as the guy that plays in the spot where Finkler plays.

If you assume Rossi goes then you have to import spots to sign to 2x CBs

Both keepers give me the heebie jeebies when they draw all the attackers towards them and then attempt to pass the ball between them to supposedly give our midfield some space. Just pass it out quickly so the defence has some time.

If you look at the coach's comments about lacking winners, and then Finkler goes a week later, I think you can see where those criticisms may have been directed...

At one of the few guys in our team that's actually won something?

But yes, probably quite telling.

It says in the Stuff article and was thinking it probably didn't help his time here but he has been affected with the Kaikoura earthquake. His wife went home and then they had their next child. Think his head hasn't been in Wellington and the game for a while, so best for him as well as the Nix to part ways.

We now get a visa spot and cash to spend in January.

Not sure how much cash we will have to spend, the replacement will probably be inside the cap. WelNix were reluctant to spend on marquees previously and after being talked into signing two, they both flopped big time. They will be rather reluctant to pull the trigger again I would imagine.

If he's been paid out the replacement will probably be an accounting marquee or one of the more expensive current players will shift into the marquee spot.

Being a marquee, his pay out should be outside the cap.

I'm assuming that there isn't much cap space available though seeing as it was a full squad.

When we signed him, I said that he was already on the outer at Victory and being surrounded by an inferior base of players here would not help. His lack of pace was always going to get found out, and while he's a skilled player, he's not an Ifill-type who can get by with skill alone.

Pretty sure he'll have got paid out till Xmas and he'll have a team lined up someplace where his wife and he will be happier.  We can get on with signing someone else matching the pay cheque he was getting.

Great move.

I just wish someone would be honest about his departure.

Both press releases from both Dome and Guii are nauseating.

Just say he walked off the job and we don't tolerate that shark

Because the best way to attract new players is to publicly bad mouth the ones that used to play for you ...

Beats  lying and maybe it will mean we don't atttract the likes of him any more.

Do you think Durante would pull that shark?

Finkler was always a bit of a Hernandez appointment. A good player past his best. Still did alright for us, but nowhere near what we expected (however foolishly) when signing him and sometimes he was poor.

More often poor than good.

What is McGarry doing... seems to fallen away and not even mentioned anymore.

He's been good for the WeeNix from what I've seen. He's clearly behind Abbas and Doyle for LB and Vidosic/Parkhouse for LW though

McGarry is an interesting one - for the WeeNix today he played Centre Forward.  So how is he meant to break into the first team if he is not playing in one of his preferred positions (i don't know if this has been happening regularly)
