If this is true then we need to hold Rudan to his contract so he cant coach them next year. Let him sit at home in
Australia for a year. I know this is a knee jerk reaction to something that might not even be true but in future cases of expansion there should be strict rules I place that prevents new teams from poaching players and coaches [still under contract] from other A League teams - either that or introduce transfer fees between A League clubs. I know both Kurto and Williams will be off contract but in most likelihood they only signed 1 year contracts because our club future was in doubt because the FFA fudgeed us around with the license.

I don't see Kurto moving to another HAL team. If he were to leave the phoenix after this season, I would imagine it would to be to go back to Europe where he could test himself in a tougher league after getting his form back through playing regular games, after riding the pine last season.

I don't often agree with NP but this is right. There is no reason we HAVE to let Rudan out of his contract if he is planning to raid us, i.e. if his agent isn't just making up stories and leaking them to SBS to scare us

Yeah, would be pretty shark for Rudan to not sign players to the 'Nix only so he can sign them at bitumen utd.

Just because this all is "possible" does not mean it is "true".

Looks to me like someone is trying to make Welnix blink first.

We are resigning players currently... no reason why Williams can't be signed now etc. Welnix handle the contracts so in reality it is as simple as this...

Rudan, should we try to extend Williams contract... yes, good we will start talks.

Whether Williams says, wait on, I want to see what Rudan does first is another story.

But they've publicly said Rudan has been a part of the re-signing process. Would be a terrible look if he didn't sign the players that he would want if he ended up going to Melbourne, While still working for our club. That's a total weasel move, so I hope that's not what's going on

Yes, but also because his injury would last the rest of our season. Playing in Korea will give him a chance to come back this year without the ridiculously long offseason.

Unlucky not to get more chances..... Whom would he have gotten chances over...? Durante? Taylor? Kopa? Doyle?

The reality is, he was our 5th choice CB this year. Last year, he was one of our better ones. I choose to look at it in the following manner:

An average player in a bad team, just because they perform, does not make them a good player. It just makes them an average player in a bad team. Players like that disappear in better teams. Last year he stood out amongst poor cattle. This year, with better cattle, he is just another footballer. Thats not spinning it any other way that reality.

I am sure he is a nice guy and he did a job, but you want guys that can push past the incumbents. In my opinion, he did not have the ability to do that, and it was telling when Golec was bought in a head of him.  So lets either find someone whom can go past the incumbents, or develop a Kiwi kid, especially when its 5th choice CB

I am not sure Golec was brought in ahead of giving Fox a spot.  Golec was brought in to cover for Doyle. That is assuming Doyle was to play as left CB, because Cacace made the left FB role his own.

So lets either find someone whom can go past the incumbents,...

That not my reality. Last year the players were fine, or at least there were enough good players to field a decent team. The problem was the coaches, who didn't know who the best players were, where to field them, or how to manage them.

The backs included Lowry, Durante, Fenton, Cacace, Mullen, Galloway, Doyle, and Fox - there's a decent back four or five in there.

For mine, Fox didn't stand out, Dura was the best of the backs, and Galloway was underrated by the coach, and others.

There is most certainly not a decent back four or five in there. Cacace only played a handful of games towards the end of the season, Fenton wasn't even signed for last season, and Lowry was ostracised by the Kalezic super early on after some sort of altercation so he never played either. That left Durante, Doyle, Mullen, Galloway, Fox, Marco Rossi and Adam Parkhouse. That's a wooden spoon worth defence

It's not as black and white as it sounds. Yes, Rudan brought in Taylor and Kurto which improved our "goals against" figures. But it is more important what he did with those players he inherited, including Fenton and Cacace.  So it is his team recruitment and team selection, but also what he expects from the players (fitness) and how he leads by example (commitment). I have not seen that level of intensity previously, maybe except in early Ricki days.

I agree with that. But to add that the crap season last year gave some of those young players a lot of playing time, maturity and experience at A League level. They came into this season with Rudan, but also with that better understanding and experience of what is required for success and a season of getting their butt kicked and trying to get better. It's a whole package of stuff I think. There is no way Imo that last year's personnel collectively were good enough to be a solid A League defensive unit. Some of the young players are (much) better for the experience. Taylor and Kopa have added. And Rudan's coaching.  Add the improvement of Rufer in front of them.

Anyone else see in the stuff article today about Rudan still not saying whether he will stay or go, the bit about Burns being the second highest paid player on the books at the nix? Assuming that's true its pretty surprising. Given he came back on reputation I didn't think he would be on a particularly large wedge. Given his season I wish I never found that out to be honest

Who would be top? Roy? Taylor? If Taylor's top you'd really feel for Roy knowing burns is on more than him given the respective seasons they're having.

I recall someone a while back whom seemed informed quoting burns salary as likely bwtween 120 - 150k,

if that is correct and he is our second highest paid player, then Christ we are mile under the cap.

Compared to our competition we also run with less players in a squad (i.e: less employees =  less wage bill)

Time for the owners to show some ambition and give the resources to Rudan

Maybe it was 150k for the half year because he joined in Jan didn't he?

That could mean 300k full year.
