maybe Burgess was simply offered a better deal? 3 years to 1 etc and whose to say other clubs wouldn't have got him anyway.

I know guys, loosing some players is hard, but I promise you, we get some great, better ones. We already have a coach with more experience, in Ufuk we should trust. I'm looking forward for the schadenfreude we will have when the Bitumens tank.

It's a given the delay in the Independent A-League (And no announcement Phoenix will be there/included past 2019/20) will cost us players.

Some player have contracts till 30 June 2019 I beleive?

Apart from the seven we have on contract all the rest expire on the 30th.

He is signing players faster from our team then we can sign them from the whole fudgein football world.

And he did all the spade work and dug the hole for us while he was being paid by us

What I gather from this comment and these events is that Rudan may be some kind of super judas. I've never heard of/ encountered a more powerful judas then this... Ahh.. Specimen.

Hard case. If it really is Rudan driving this bus, it's really a situation that FIFA should look into. Some dark shark goes on the world of football transfers, but this is really quite bizarre.

But, getting a grip on ourselves, the most important thing is not next season actually. It's the 10,20,30 and so on after that. And, we need a licence for that. Get that sorted, and there will be other Rudans, Kurtos, Burgesses etc etc. They're just humans.

This looks really sharkty, don't get me wrong. But, it's not the end.

1. Would Kurto & Burgess have signed for the Nix if not for Rudan? Highly unlikely

2. Was Kurto ever going to stay in Wellington? Not if Mrs Kurto had her way

3. Would Williams have come to the Nix, if again not for Rudan? See 1.

Signing Aussie players on one year deals (esp if they do well) is always a risk, because most of them would rather naturally live back in their home country.

Of course if Rudan takes Krishna that really is poaching, and yes unleash the fury. But apparently WU is the one team we have heard, NZ's favourite Fijian has definitely turned down.

Also need to put some faith in Talay, being able to recruit/lure in a gem or two.

Where would Williams have gone if NIX did not agree to sign him - Marry Potter?

Burgess is an up and comer as is most of NIX academy - took the chance but Cherio Lad.

We need the extension in an Independent league

Great to see Just and Wilkins sign pro contracts, but their new club is likely to be in the Danish 3rd Div next season. Much stronger that Swedish Div 4?

Also their trials at Helsingør sound like they were very much brokered by Ole.

1. Why would a first time professional coach, with no prior relationship with the players, have sway over a player in Europe or a player wanting to reignite his pro career?

2. Would Kurto be more likely to stay with the 'Nix if the coach he has formed a relationship with over the season wasn't moving to a rival club? Or, if he was wanting to leave then moving back to Europe could have been more likely if not for current manager moving to a rival club?

3. Again, see 1.

It is certainly the case for Kurto.  He would not have come here if Rudan did not scout him out.  But it would be very easy to sway Mrs Kurto with an offer of a move from Wellington to Melbourne (even if the club is actually out West).  Do not underestimate the cultural factors in their decision making.

All 3 players were brought to the club on 1 year contracts. They were all brought to the club by Rudan.

When he first arrived he looked at the keeper situation, decided Sail, Smith not up to it. Couldn’t sign Marinovic or Gleeson.

From memory he had some contacts in Poland?? Found Kurto and Kopa as well. Both Rudan signings.

Burgess definitely a Rudan signing plucked from NSW NPL, where Rudan had obviously coached for a few years.

Williams well I guess he was looking to rejoin the A League. But from memory if was again Rudan who talked him into joining the Nix along with Nichols. We're building a project here blah blah. I doubt he would have come to Wellington if not for Rudan. Maybe CCM or the Roar. Anyway he may stay if Ufuk can talk him round.

The stories are that Kurto was on his way out no matter what. Wellington is a cool little city. But Melbourne is a very cool big city. Many overseas players & their partners would find the Capital a bit boring after a few months. I’d wager Mrs Kurto was in that camp. Then she visited Victoria, and said to Filip I like it here in Polish. Look they would probably have gone back to Europe if not for WU/Rudan, but really so what they would have left anyway.

It’s the UK boys and their whanau who tend to lap up Welly a bit more. Ifill, Greenacre and now it seems Taylor.

Exactly there is a sizeable expat Polish community in Melbourne which will help a bit. You can commute out west to say the Point Cook area (if that's where their training base is) from funky Port Melbourne in about 30 minutes.

This just shows how much Rudan fudgeed us by leaving after one year of a two year deal. All these players on one year contracts who Rudan brought were probably given these contracts so that the club and Rudan could make a call on them. Yes, there was a risk another A League club comes in with a great offer, but you'd assume we'd have a good chance of re signing the players we wanted to stay provided they like the club and the coach. Instead, it's allowing Rudan and WU to pick the players off as they are off contract.

I think Kurto is someone the club knew possibly from Kalezic's Dutch connections - Kalezic may have even coached him at Roda. It's also not like any of our previous managers have been able to sign players from the NPL, HAL, NZ or overseas. A lot, especially with no transfer fees and a salary cap, is matter of fortunate timing on who becomes available and what options are available to them.

I am just as angsty about the players as many here. At the same time, it is simply a sign of the quality of the players we have.  They can look for good offers themselves, and good offers will be made to them, because of their quality.

Players for whom Phoenix was a significant step-up, or a lifeline in a flagging career, might be waiting and hoping Talay wants to re-sign them. But those who are good enough and have not been re-signed by Welnix yet should not be blamed, if they want a multi-year contract security and can in fact get one.
