I went with Hogg, but that's just because at this current time I hope he's good enough to be in the starting lineup. It's a tough one to do now, having not seen Hogg.

It would be interesting. Lochhead was much better than Rowe. If he is better than Hogg, will the haters shut up? I some how doubt it.

No I'd still think we'd need a new LB - just not Hogg in that case

You'd use a foreign spot on a LB then? Or is there an Aussie that would do a better job that I can't think of?

OK, no new votes for a while so I've closed the poll.

Final results:

Pretty clear cut result really.

Re-sign Sanchez, Bertos and one of Lochhead/Hogg. Let the rest of them go.

We'll do the poll again in a couple of months and see if there's any change to the Hogghead situation.

Edit: You can unsticky the original post if you want mods.

Now 3 out of 9, would you agree thats a clear out Patrick? If anything, If this comes to pass, its promising because 6 new players coming in could make a massive difference to this team.

We had 7 players leave last season, so no, I wouldn't say that 6 it is a clear out. It is quite a high number though, and most of the players that replaced the 7 have been starting (Boyd, Fenton, Brockie, Huysegems and to an extent Totori) and the other two will likely get some game time in the next 11 games (Moss and Hogg), so I totally agree that the 6 new players can make a huge difference. Losing 6 our of your 23 players is just normal, not a clearout in my opinion.

Six new quality players and we could  not only be in the top four but could probably win the Grand final.

I'm not referring to it against the total squad (which is 21). I was referring to the players off contract. 6/9 is a clear out.

Yeah agree. I was basing my opinion by comparing against the entire squad. This is of course entirely based on an unscientific internet poll, and since I have seen a poll asking 'Who is your favourite Phoenix player of all time' won by Griffin McMaster, with a whopping 98% of the votes, I am taking it's finding with a pinch of salt. It is a nice indication of the opinion of the Fever as a whole though.

If you were Ricki, building a team for next season, who would stay and who would go? My picks:

IN:

Moss, Muscat, Ifill, Fenton, Boyd, Hogg, Lindsay, Sanchez, Durante

IN/BENCH:

Boxall, Sigmund, Bertos, Totori

OUT:

Paston, Lochead, Smith, Huysegems, Lia, Downey, Pantelis

The poll TX ran said the majority of us want Pantelis, Smith, Lochhead, Paston and Downey out. Huysegems and Lia are contracted beyond this season, so there is very, very little chance they will be let go.

How the hell does anyone justify keeping Totori? He is a waste of an import slot. He would not be an import for any other team in the league and should not be on our playing roster.

I also find it a bit funny that Hogg is the solution and has yet to kick a first team ball yet. Apparently he was pants in the 2nds the other night?

This amuses me too. I guess people really do want to get rid of Lochhead, so much so that they would replace him with an umproven player, brought here essentially on a trial.

I think there are two camps in those votes.  One camp are those that blame Lochhead for all 7 goals last night and want him gone even if it meant bringing Tsatsalios back to play there.  The others are those that hope or feel that Hogg is better than Lochhead so voted for him on that basis.  A lot of the votes I think you can read as 1 of Hogg or Lochhead, depending on how he goes when he gets his chance.

If we get rid of six we can probably afford two real quality signings and the rest would be squad level.  Even that would make a big difference. Smith and Totori gone and replaced by quality regular starter import midfield options would make a heck of a difference.

Bit harsh on Totori, considering he wasn't he part of the debacle last night, has had a couple of assists in the game time he has had and generally looked like our best attacking outlet (despite some poor option taking)

We need a quality DM and CM.

Our ability to keep possession is pants and our reading of the game is equally pants.

Interesting, since Totori is really nothing more than a poor version of Pavs, and people around here couldn't wait to be rid of him. And Pavs was at least a youth player for a bit of his time here, and didn't take up an import slot.

Yes it is harsh on Totori.  But he is taking an import spot and if we want two new quality players (at least) then they will need to be imports.  Keats would maybe give us an option to keep Totori, but Totori is a developing player, rather than a quality professional, and he's taking an import spot.  Smith would vacate one spot, but the off-contract import players are Totori, Sanchez, Smith.  I'd have kept Sanchez, albeit last night he did not do his cause any good.  If we want two quality players that says one of Sanchez and Totori also needs to go.

yeah I think totori has shown some potential, but you want your import players to be starting 90% of the time right? He is at best a bench player and only good for 30 minutes running at tired legs. I say dump him. Why people are asking for Stein to go is beyond me, he like the whole team is in a slump right now but at least he puts some effort in. Sanchez has to stay. Smith and Totori to go and free up the import spots.

When did Stein last score again? I know it's an overly simplistic analysis, but it's not hard to see why some aren't impressed. He's a striker, he's there to score goals, he's not doing that. That has to be a pretty major factor in making a decision about his future.

sure strikers are measured by the goals they score but I think that is overly simple. Stein has been unlucky not to score, as happens when the team hits a slump - nothing goes to plan, he's getting in the right places and taking some dcent shots, excluding some good saves he'd have had three against sydney.

You are wrong, he won't be the first to go. One of the players that don't have a contract for next season will.

I know goals scored is an overly simple measure on it's own, but surely it's the first consideration. How long does a team perservere with a striker who continually gets 'unlucky' in front of goal? Obviously Stein has got another year on his contract so it's a bit of a moot point, but if his stats are looking the same this time next year there he'd better start figuring out how to use trademe in case he needs to sell his tv.

yeah, moot point cos he's here till the end of next season, personally I think all he needs is a goal of a deflection and the floodgates will open, much like Brockie - who by the way hasn't been scoring of late either, but y way of his 10 goals he is forgiven, which is odd given a lot of the 10 were 20+ yeard screamers and not the 6-10 yard tap ins we really need.

While he has not been scoring, his work rate is at least ok, unlike Brocks who has barely touched the ball in about four games
