Totori is back next year. Clause in this contract has been triggered.

Serious.
I am so with you on this JV - the only way the option could have been triggered in my mind was if it was a player option - which for me means that whoever negotiated it on the nix side got well and truely screwed. Or we have become the WINZ for football "players"
This isn't true.
2nd B I respect you are a well thought out man in a position of getting stuff before we do. Why don't you enlighten us about this? Its a fair comment to say he is out of his depth and an even fairer comment to say he has very little fans that like his play on this forum. I cannot find a conceivable reason why he would the 2nd year in his contract would be activated unless
1: The coach likes him
2: He is a nice team guy
3: Its a throwback to OFC.
I cannot think of any footballing rationale to activate this because there is not one.
Agreed ^^^^^^^^ Totori has not lived up to the billing - therefore whoever negotiated his contract got duped, or if the club activated the 1 year extension then whoever decided that is mental. The rest is an opinion on how we appear to be supporting the lifestyles of players that would be out of work.
If I was allowed to tell you I would.
I know you would, but as you cannot/will not the conjecture will continue....either way I think we can agree on the fact that Totori has not met the expectations we or the club had for him
Agree. Not impressed that he is around next year.
hopefully he'll be the only wasted import spot for next season
Guess on the bright side is he is probably on sweet F all so wouldn't be too hard to bin if something else came along.
How close is he to NZ citezenship?

Make a new account and tell us. If he wasn't an import I'd think it was okay to keep him here to just run riot at defenders. But he's an import and he's also not exactly a young player either.

It's quite obvious. There was a goals missed clause in his contract that would activate a second season.
Would think it might have been tied to appearances.
Number of times fallen over.

Yeah even we could not be silly enough to give a player in his first year in the league an option to extend his own contract. In fact, no-one is ever going to give a player an option are they? Zero upside for a club
2B - without giving anything away would you say this extension is based on a fuck up, or just that a relatively normal clause has been triggered?

However it happened, signing Totori - in a foreign spot - to more than a one year deal is a bad, bad bit of business.
Fuck I hope he qualifies for residency soon, just to ease the pain somewhat.

normal.
So - what are the guesses for what money the guys coming off contract are on? My guesses below (all for full season - some will only receive pro rata amount) and all in kiwi dollars
Reckon Pantelis was on more. Signed when Terry was around.
There is an upside for a club. A player may be reluctant to sign on with a 2 year contract. Giving them the option means you sign them up for the year, and maybe even 2.
It's obviously not an ideal scenario if you want to sign someone up for 2 years, but its quite normal.
Whether or not we should have signed him for 2 years is a different story. I always assumed it was a club option, as the scenario where we sign him up for a year to see how he goes then exercise the option if he was any good, seemed more plausible
But I'd take a guess that a player option is more common than a club option.
You must have it wrong.
Why on Earth would they give that option to the player ? So he's allowed to play like pants but then say "I'll have another year, mate ! Thanks Ricki"
If that is true...... un-be-lie-va-ble.
You're saying that in hindsight. What they're essentially offering is a 2 year deal, with the option of the player to opt out of it halfway through. So by having a problem with the player option, you have a problem with 1 of 2 things:
a) Totori wasn't worth a 2 year contract
b) you wanted the club to only offer him a more solid 2 year contract, because it'd be a big shame to lose him after a year of he was any good. The counter of this of course is that Totori may not have accepted a solid 2 year contract.
lock in A no B no A ! Final answer.
My understanding from what is said here that it was on a clause rather than a player or club decision.
Hindsight is great.Given what we had when he signed and there seeming to have been restrictions placed on the type of player we could go for dont think there was much option other than to offer him what we did.
Just had a very interesting read from some of the threads earlier this season.Talk about some people have egg on their faces.LOL
I guess it would probably be something like 'games played' or similar.
But he has played fuck all.
Minutes or matches JV?
Both!!!

just most as a sub, I am probably one who mistook his ability from what I saw against the AW's, he has proven to be an fairly big disapointment.

I agree he should have only been on a 1 year deal, but what I was saying was the club essentially offered him a 2 year deal with Totori having the option of walking out on it halfway through.
Sounds like that wasn't the case anyway, but hats essentially what the player option is for anyway. It does have its advantages.
