Just as well that Watson is not trialling in the MLS. Can you imagine how difficult he would find it staying behind the line at US immigration?

How do you pronounce Ljujic? Loo-yich?

Well, a lot of that is me. Ive seen him warming up and he looks to have some skills and strikes a ball well enough. But he doesn't seem to have any match skills that Ive seen, his touch is terrible, his awareness of others around him is terrible and his offside running, well lets not go there. That's the best I can say

Well, at least things are happening. Wonder who Ljujic is being brought in to replace - WeeMac, or Ridenton?

my guess - McGlinchey's position, Ridenton's starting spot

This reminds me a little of the BS when Chris Wood did that TV show a few years back...

Lyoo-yich   (it is a soft "L")

The exasperated Paul Brennan in RNZ National bulletin this arvo persisted in calling him "Lubitsch", presumably the first thing he thought of were the 1930s comedies and musicals of the great Hollywood director Ernst Lubitsch. Maybe he knows something we don't

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Thought Ljujić showed some phenomenal flashes today but has to become acclimatised to the pace of the league first, saw him caught out a bit. His passing  > his dribbling too. Looks a brilliant pickup, hope to see more of him!

For me, he looks like a straight swap for Ridenton. Basically they're the same player except one's better at everything

Like the munters on the A-League Show who call our top goalscorer "Kilidijić"

He played two through balls into gaps that really split the Victory defence wide open. Looks damn useful to me.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

He looks a bit of a unit, so shouldn't be muscled off the ball much. Got a bit burned after jumping on the Paracki & Galloway bandwagons too soon, so gonna hold off a while but there was some very promising signs today.

Now we just need some right footed players so they can play on the left!

Don't know if anyone has listened to the Daily Football Show interview with Nathan Burns from a few days ago, but as a huge Burns fan it was great to hear. The way he talks about the Nix and how much he likes the club and the city just adds to the sudden positivity we as fans are experiencing, knowing that he's here because he wants to be here, not because he has to. A lot of people will say thats just so he can have a good season, get into the Aussie squad and leave for a better team but I honestly don't think so. Last time he was here he lived in an apartment in the middle of town, in the interview he said that this time he's looking for a house in the suburbs to settle down in, with a garden so he can bring his dog over. I know it's little but theres got to be something in that, I think this time he might stay for 2 or 3 seasons

I also read an interview that he had a few options but his girlfriend wanted to come back to Wellington. The media said when Dario left tht he was marquee, so I assume Burns is too?

Do we know for certain he was though? I think everyone just assumed he was marquee because he was replacing Kosta and he was of good pedigree. He probably was but I don't recall the club ever officially saying he was marquee, if so Burns definitely will be. Would love to fill that second marquee spot though

Yeah, we know Finkler was a marquee but I doubt someone from Zalgiris Vilnius is marquee. Who could we get that's marquee quality though? Assuming that we have no foreign spots and are limited to Australia and NZ players. The club tends to use marquees just to get the most expensive players out of the cap, the only one that had any real fan fare was Kosta and that was because it was a local lad does good sort of story.

Dario wasn't, but I don't think Nathan Burns is. And if he is, he won't be on big money, he'll be on less than someone like Krishna.

I'd give Tommy Smith a marquee contract. Seeing he's apparently looking at other clubs...

Smith on a Marquee, Tuiloma on loan, Bozanic and a right back and we will get into the top six, mark my words ?

Don’t forget guys - we’ve still got Louis Fenton (kind of) with us. I really do rate him as a winger, a lot more than Parkhouse that’s for sure, and hopefully Kalezić has the common sense to play him there. Means we can let go Parkhouse if need be, Fenton’s solid on both wings. Hope i’m not in a minority here

On a one year contract with the intention to come back to the Nix after the contract is up. Basically a quick season move to gain fitness. It’s why I said “kind of”

good interview with Joel in the football magazine before the Nix game. Was very frustrated with his time at the Nix, just not knowing. That show is quite good the 2 or 3 times I've bothered to watch it.

Stevens is younger too. In all honesty while Merrick helped Krishna and Burns and a number of others to improve, I feel like he really ruined Fenton's career. Never should've been shunted back into Right back/Wing back

He wasn't going to get consistent game time anywhere else on the park & had a good start to his conversion, then he did his shoulder and it stalled his progress.

under Merrick he wasn't going to get game time anywhere else, that is true

By all accounts and noise Fenton’s career is a pro footballer is over. He has been underwhelming at NL for TW

Grumpy old bastard alert

Permalink Permalink

I feel for him and all that, but I do not get people's interest in bringing him back. We have now better options. Even Mullen and Galloway get regularly panned here for their decision-making, yet I rank them as much better players than Fenton.

At best, he could be at the right hand side of attack (where he used to be before Ernie moved him back to RB), instead of Parkhouse. But frankly, he is not a Kosta lookalike, let alone Geria lookalike. End of story.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Word is he is about to leave TW to play state league, Jose said it in a recent interview
