Surely you can be not good enough for Sunderland and also HAL quality?

Jack Pelter..
I'm very wary of signing a player who has never played senior football - I've seen the U21 league and I don't really rate the standard
Actually the more I think about it the worse it gets. Paul Ifill was a Sunderland senior player, we're now looking at Sunderland U21s. #welnix
Normo's coming home
So the overall consensus is that Ernie doesn't know what he's doing recruitment-wise. Sack him?
Sunderland forums a few weeks back looking at Gorrin to move into first team next season, then a bit later a note about how he's not playing for the U-21 team because he's injured, and then recently there are rumours he's going. Well the last one's true: he's coming here. But hope the injury rumour isn't, or at least not serious. Surely he can't have been close to 1st team if he's now willing to come down here. He's a big lad at 183cm, and has scored 2 with 2 assists in latest 9 starts. Reasons to be cheerful? Or at least optimistic.
"Yellow Fever are fantastic – I have to say that"
He's the age where a couple of years in nz is a good adventure.

I guess it could mean the end for Hernandez..
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
Yeah after reading the description of him on Stuff I'm definitely more excited. Initially someone on here said he was just an attacking midfielder, but seems like he could be a great link with player of the year Albert
"Head coach Ernie Merrick is hailing the transfer saying Gorrin has the potential to play in the EPL or the Championship division"
If this were true then why would he sign a 2+1 deal in the HAL???????????????

And if he likes it here then he could become an All White in five years

FIFA Rating 58
potential rating 69

Tyler Boyd's is 54 with potential to go to 63.. Thomas Broich is 68..
Seems legit haha
This is very much a "we will have to wait and see" sort of signing.
Obviously Ernie has been onto this guy for a while....he must have got good raps by someone for Ernie to give him two years unsighted. Positives is he is young, a box to box midfielder, having been at Sunderland at least he will have some English and the Wellington weather won't be too much of a change. He also will be used to the physicality of the Anglo game. Kind of young and unproven....Sunderland under 21 is hardly a ringing endorsement
Ernie is true to his word....he said he wanted to recruit early and get everyone on deck for a thorough preseason. If this guy comes off then it should give us more steel in defense alongside Riera.
So thats our last import slot taken.....or will we see Carlos on his way post WC. Ernie is normally loyal to his players but he did publicly slam Carlos a couple of times.....would not bet my house on Carlos being here next season. Watch this space........

My struggle with this is I cannot understand how this can be the best player that we can get to come to the club. Steyn was a Belgian international, Carlos and Cunningham are internationals for a world cup team, Ifill was fringe premier league, Greenie solid career pro. These are mid career professionals with a track record. All have done a pretty decent job. That's the standard we need from our imports to my mind.
It's absolutely not impossible to attract players to Wellington although the circumstances obviously have to be right. Even Krishna has proven himself to a certain extent. This guy is just a kid, I don't understand how anyone can truly have a view on whether he is good enough when he hasn't played a game of senior football.
There is an economic crisis in Spanish lower league football and our player of the year was a Spanish semi pro, I seriously cannot understand why we are not at least looking there initially.
Normo's coming home
So the only acceptable Players are EPL or Euroupes first team players!
I think the cap dictates the squad players. The SFC marque has not got the 1st on the ladder or a fancy seat at the top of the Finals

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Kenny have a decent world cup and get picked up by a bigger club.
With Carlos, wasn't the one year extension he got an automatic clause based on games played? Both parties might actually be happy to terminate his contract now - you get the feeling that there's still a fair bit of bad blood between him and Ernie.

Serious question, do Auckland City have better imports than we do?

Connection is through Greenie who is mates with Sunderland U21 Coach according to radio this morning
On reading the article in the Dom post again, it says the lad was the captain of the Sunderland Reserves. The Under 21 link appears to be the coach that is mates with Greenie not where Alex has necessarily been playing.
Does look slightly better

People are very positive about this signing on other forums such as 442. To much angst in here.

Great, then we can sign a team full of ASBP stalwarts and the occasional superannuated European. That'll get us the toilet seat for sure.

Well. I for one am feeling very positive about this, probably because the finals havent started yet and Ernie has made a move to bring a young midfielder to the club..remember in previous years when we could go months and hear nothing...for me this is positive and I believe that more is to come and maybe its the start of putting together a team Ernie can call his own

I'm not as angsty about this as others on here. In fact I'm a bit excited to see what he can do. From the reports coming out this morning they have had a good look at his coaching videos and talked to people in the know over there, so there is a bit of homework about it. And he fills one of our biggest holes that we've traditionally struggled to sign (box to box midfielder).
In terms of it taking the last import slot, I think that says a lot more about the punt we've taken on Krishna. If I was going to pick Krishna or Gorrin for my last import slot, I'd definitely be taking Gorrin.

JD has pretty solid Cap 1 coaching experience. Sign him up!
He's expensive though.

If Cunningham and Hernandez do leave, then they would have to mutually terminated (cost us wages from the cap i assume) or bought out (make us coin). I assume they will only leave if we were to sell them on post world cup.
Think this will be a good signing.
ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

It's the classic Groucho Marx position applied to the Nix - any player who'd be willing to play for us must be too sh*t for us to want to sign
