Ah,right. Sure, loan them out for a few months.

Turns out the squad only needs a few changes and not an overhaul at all.

From this forum as shown below.  And they all still sitting there waiting for the list of potential players to replace those some of us want to discard.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Need at least another 8 players start at the back and work forward.Need another keeper for a start someone that's going to push Moss, the boy at the moment must be getting a good wage to make up for his lack of ambition. Moss hasn't had a great season and needs to be pushed to keep his place.

Italiano is definitely pushing Moss.

But I disagree with you, Moss has had a fantastic season in my opinion. Kept us in matches so many times, and let down by some an unstable defence in front of him.

Our reserve keepers are great. Italiano and Sail.

When Moss went down on Sunday, I didn't feel at all nervous about who was going to replace him. Definitely can't say that about some past seasons!

I think Mambo has been quite shaky (most) times I've seen him, but I do think if he got a decent run in the side he'd be okay.

He and Sail keep the reserves from conceding double figures at times this season. (Exaggerating a bit, but...)

OK so most people here want to keep Fenton, Watson, Ridenton,Italiano even young Blake and if fit Rufer but how do they improve its not buy just training and sitting on the bench its about getting quality game time so that they do improve and we are not having the same conversations about the same players next year.LOAN them out to a state league side over the winter and see if they improve I don't think some would but some may not. I would even send Doyle and Fox

yeah, we have loaned a player or two to mcarthur rams in the nswpl - might have been kosta. Could be an option for guys that haven't gotten much game time.

Does anyone want to keep Fenton and if so why I don't

Yes, I do.  He is a useful squad member able to fit in anywhere on the right flank.

OK, he can wilt under pressure (he is no Muscat), but he is a relatively clean player and can score the odd goal.

OK, he suffers from low confidence right now, but that can be worked on and he might improve with time, especially with good players around him.  And final reason, he does not need a visa.

Plus when he's on form is a good attacking player- from 39 seconds in. There have been some better examples too- I think against VIctory somewhere? He's gotta rebuild his frame and confidence, but he's done a job in our squad.

I miss the Hutt Rec, Fenton was right in front of me when he did the run.

I wonder how MV will replaced this two players we got from them. They all seem a bit unhappy over there. I hope Kosta and Gui will show new heights under Ernie coaching skills.

Fahid is apparently leaving as well - a very unhappy changing room. Going to be interesting to see how Muscat recruits, rather than just adding players to a team built by Ange he's going to help build his own team after a huge clear out.

FBK has been quite horrid this season and has spent more time at the Casino than caring about the team. Most would be happy to see him go. I think most fans are quite happy to see Finkler go as well as there is a feeling around that it's time for a change and Finkler has probably done his dash.

The only one they didn't want to lose was Kosta.

Muscat managed to find Delpierre, so it will be interesting to see if he finds players of that quality again.

It's easier for MV to attract quality imports, to be honest. I don't think they'll have any trouble getting better than what they lost.

They also are likely to have more contacts and a better scouting network than the Phoenix. But it's not about attracting or affording the high quality players, it's about building a team which is balanced and can do the job. Apparently Berisha will be an Ozy citizen next season so they may have four import spots to play with.

But the motivation of key players may be down to poor man management within the team. Fahid wanted to stay despite the fact that he had better offers elsewhere so something changed drastically in his motivation if he really is spending more interested in the crown casino than training. Gui also had passion for the team and was apparently in tears when he wasn't in the ACL squad.

The fact that there is a big clean out speaks just as much about senior players wanting to leave as the team wanted to refresh. The roar has shown that a key to sustained success is not to have that big clear out but keep a stable base to a team and gradually replenish, sure you have up years and down years but you are more up than down.

If we got Khalfallah off them, it would be awesome. that guy seems to play well against us most games, got a good scoring touch. Perhaps Berisha and his attitude is driving them away?

Not Ben. It is bad enough we got Gui (never been a fan of him). I always saw him as a bubble wrapped spoiled star when he first came, now he has lost the protection and in some cases has been pretty spiteful in challenges.

Sure he is a good player, and he may sway me, but I wont be chanting his name from day one. (I wont boo him though)

Just my thoughts anyway

So Gui doesn't get his own thread like everyone else? Why?

usually either transfer speculation or contracts thread "player x come on down" added to the end of the title.

I tried, thinking the same. I can't remember the last signing that never got their own thread, but I got relegated by the Powers That Be

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

Pretty inconsistent when you look at the beginning of the A-Rod thread for example.

I thought it was normal behaviour to give each nix player his own thread when he signed.

Permalink Permalink

Problem is that discussion goes across 2 or 3 threads. Once the signing buzz cools down then we can open a player thread.

Khalfallah had a shocking season. I watched the MV-WSW game last night and I would say McGlinchey is currently a better player in that position than KBK.

Do not forget the  issue of off-the-park wellbeing.  For a Tunisian player Melbourne is one thing but Wellington may just not cut it. How many Brazilians apart from Daniel settled well in Welly? I will watch Finkler with interest for that reason alone.

Kalfallah apparently stayed with the victory because his family wanted to, he had much bigger offers elsewhere after last season and consequently victory got a bargain. So off field probably isn't his problem.

But clearly from what you say it sounds like it is, as he won't leave Melbourne if his family is not happy to leave.

Didn't we have this problem at the Nix ourselves?

And closer to home, we all read on this forum that Mrs Smeltz was rumoured to have a big say on where Shane plays.

edit - not worth it. If you want to deflect from the team's ineptitude by coming out with illogical nonsense, up to you.
