Just seen the goal. As Tigger stated:
i wonder if someone on the far post for their corner could have got his head to Vargas's header
Exactly.
Why do football teams all around the world neglect to put a man at each post? Surely this is better than one more head in the mixer.
An even better example (the Bahraini 2nd):
I don't get it fellas.

It puzzles me also. Surely its a must, but a lot of teams do this, yet so many goals are scored just inside a post off of a corner

Paston made a lame attempt to motion someone there but then got distracted. All my mates called it and sure enough, thats where the header went.

Poor organizational skills from Paston.
Three for me, and two for them.

its odd, we had one on both posts the first corner and for some reason not on the last. If one of the backs had been on the back post we might well have held them scoreless.
Perhaps poor organisation from Paston, but surely the defensive four should know eher they are supposed to be o corners - maybe Hearfield missed that one? Manny is usually there on the post.

Well it definitely doesn't help that McKain was just brought on. I'm not sure if it was when the corner was being set up, but if it was, thats a huge no no in football mangement. You should never switch players on a defensive corner.

It may have something to do with certain systems. Zonal marking etc. Liverpool don't play with men on the posts (I know, and look at our record!) but it can be for various reasons, such as pulling players offside, not seeing them as necessary as you attempt to cover all the space in the box etc. Not saying I agree with it, but there are different ways to defend corners.
But probably just went to sleep/ poor organisation skills!

speaking of corners - ours have been shte recently

Agreed. Daniel used to bang in hard topspun corners that caused problems in year 1. It seems all corners now are floated to the back post with time for everyone from both teams to get under them

Agreed, our corners, and crossing in general has been poor. Somehow we scored our last two goals from them but we should have had so many more or at least pressured the goal more.

Daniel was standing on the far post then he was subbed and no one did it... poor organisation (McKain, who came on for Daniel, is a headerer no a post stander)
our attack and crossing is so one dimensioal, no through balls and always going wide (which is good) but poor loopy crosses... :(

Exactly....as soon as that corner was awarded me and my mate were both screaming " no one is at the far post". then we watched as that was exactly where the ball went.....ferk!!!!
Poor organisation! was probably pastons job as the goalie is ment to be the one that sets the defense. Probably should have been Costa there. He might not have had time to react and save it but the ball might have rebounded off him!
Dumb and annoying way to concede a goal coz otherwise we were good.
Agree on the corner taking....whats with this long looping ball past the far post? OK I know why they do it but you have to execute it very well for it to be effective....leo had an off night with his crosses. I prefer Daniels hard dipping crosses. we have lots of tall timber so targets are not a problem. Plus thought their young goalie looked nervous...he often stayed on his line

also can we have Paul Ifill standing at the edge of the box for volleys from corners, his technique and athletism is superb...

Yeah, Leo has sent so many floating over to the far post where there is no pace on the ball and they are easily dealt with. Either that or Caceres whips in a rolling cross.

best cross = whipped cross. SO DO IT NIX !!!!!!!!

When this topic I was started I assumed it was about the poor delivery from our corners. Each corner that was taken (esp from the right) got worse and worse, up to the the last one, where Bertos may as well have picked it up in his hands and just pumped it as high as he could, as he was just putting up bombs with no pace to run onto. Compare that with his ball in to score in the last two weeks, and they are worlds apart. If only he could do it consistently.

Consistency is his biggest problem, a few moments of brilliance scattered between 90 minutes of ordinary.

My 11 year old goal keeping son saw 1st hand why I get him to demand a kid on each of his posts. Thanks Pasty for an expensive lesson!

Yeah come on guys, as the goalkeeper its not like its his job to organise the defence
Oh hold on....
Paston has very good organising skills, how often do you hear him yell AWAY!!!!!
(How often do you hear him yell anything else?)

IMO someone on the post would have been lucky to get near it anyway.

Agreed. With Paston flailing at it they'd have kept their position (aka out of the way) and when they realized it was past the keeper it would've been a bit late.
Damn you Roddy Vargas.

It ended in the back corner but passed Paston about 1-2 metres from the post angling towards the back

Just looked at it again, would have passed the goal lion a good 2 - 2.5m from the Post, Someone on the post would not have got near it. I would have thought Paston should have claimed it given it was on the edge of the 6 yard box and he had no one in front of him.

Is it not the norm that a keeper should own anything in the six yard box?

wasn't it at about the nearpost corner of the 6 yd box when Vargas got to it? Haven't seen the replay so happy to be corrected but if i'm right, I wouldn't like to see my keeper flying out there.
