I think the problem with Greenacre is the expectation has been higher than reality. When he signed he was hailed as a good pro who has score lots of goals in Div1 in England, which is true.
His Tranmere record looks good 46 goals in 146 games, which is about a goal every three games. This is not far off what he has done for the Phoenix...3 goals in 12 games...a goal every 4 games.
Between 2002 and 2005 he scored 7 goals in 75 games for Stoke...which is not that flash.
Both Ifill and Greenacre have said that the A-League is a comparable standard to top of Div 1.
So we got a player who was on the outer at Tranmere, at the end of his time at a level no better than the A-League.
I think with Greenacre what you see is what you get. A great guy, smart,hardworking, good attitude. But at 32 time has caught up with him. Playing all those games in the UK...all the knocks and injuries have taken there toll and he is not as sharp as he might have been a few years ago.
Its got nothing to do with luck or blaming everyone else....what you see is what we've got
