I'm reading many whom want Costa to start for his obvious impact.

I disagree, he came on, had some good runs from halfwayish, scored his goal, then floated away.

Greenacre, although not always the obvious ball handler, off the ball work actually creates space, and gives the likes of Brown room to move.

My two cents. Imo, Costa, And Greenacre should be starting with Ifill behind them or something.

I Like Costa coming on. I just don't know how he would handle a full game. Perhaps a chance to give him a game this Wednesday as the commentator said.

Sounds a good idea and would be something the Jets would not expect.

Keegan & Toshack type scenario.

Costa and Greenacre up front please on Wednesday.

Costa has the pace to get in behind and would compliment the hard work of Greenacre IMO.

We need a different option up front, and having some pace will help us with this instead of the constant crossing to nobody.

yeah in a 4 - 4 - 2 format we could easily accommodate that, I guess lia would be moved to the bench with leo and bron in the middle of the midfield.

Ifil on the right, Bertos on the left with Costa and Greeny up top. Sounds good.

Mulligan to get some game time this week to along with Ferrante in the middle of the park i imagine. Although Mulligan might get one more shot at RB after Muscats apparent mere tonight.(didn't see the game)

Leo in the middle? Not for me I'm afraid.

Leo on the bench for this one I think. Can always be brought on as an impact player himself if need be. He's been off his game a little bit lately.

I dont see Cheng getting too much benchtime now tbh. He was pretty horrible last week too

This is very likely due to the need for rotation (esp. for Leo Bertos).  I'd say that Johnny was up for consideration, but Costa's goal will probably seal it.

Tim Brown may get an enforced rest shortly, but there isn't an obvious replacement while McKain's injured.  (If there was, he might have been told to get himself a soft Yellow late in tonight's game.)

I didn't think Chen was too bad last week. The ball didn't really run for him but I didn't think he was terrible for any means.

However, I think Costa has now forced his way into contention so he should really give it 100% and grab this chance with both hands. If he fails he could find himself out of the picture for another few weeks.

Well I'm still wating for Greenacres impact. Costa did well and ran at his man, after defenders and Ifill seems to find him with good delviery...

there hasn't been a similar connection apparent yet between Ifill and Greeny. I think Costa has earned a start this week in one of the games...

Why the shock? At doubting Greenie or praising Costa?

Greenie had a great chance to score ugly today, which he didn't put away, wasted an attacking opportunity with an off target long effort and has been absent in the air of late...

Costa came on, ran into the centre of the park, drew players, made passes, got on the end of a header and put one away.

Is it such a shock to say that Greenacre needs to show more, and that Costa has earned the chance to see if he could have the same impact from kickoff in one of the two games we have in the next 7 days?

Barbourouses performed so well in the loss against Syndye i believe he has earnt a start against new castle in three days times

We should have the following formation (4,3,1,2)
          Greenacre    Barbourouses
                           Ifil
Daniel                 Brown              Bertos
Lockhead    Durante      Sigmound     Mckain/ Muscat

Such short memories some have, seem to recall greenacre was pretty good in the air last week.I dont understand just why he is expected to compete in the air so often by our players with rthe balls they put to him.He is normally marked by guys taller than him yet we continue to expect him yo win them.Have been wanting Costa to start as much as some of you but dont see him winninng much more ball in the air than Greeacre,Or would that then mean some of their delivery would change..A little disaponted that Greenacre hasnt put away those "ugly" goals he spoke of,but also think some of the service he has had is rubbish. Not so sure i would be sratrting with Costa yet but he sure should be coming off the bench early in the 2nd half.

Im inclined to agree, Leo has been having a quiet time of it lately and Daniel for all his faults has been having more impact....i would probably go with Lia over Brown

Don't you disagree with Costa starting then say you'd start him?

Greenacre is an OK player and I'm pleased he is at the Phoenix but I'm getting tired of some people constantly making excuses for him...." oh, he would be great if he only had a targetman beside him and if only they played  the ball  to his feet and they shoudn't put high balls to him...blah blah blah.....
We should be able to criticise him just like every other player gets put under the blowtorch from time to time.

He's a good compact hard working pro who has his limitations. I'm sure he will score more goals for the Phoenix but in the mean time we should judge him on performance.

Costa looked lively when he came on and did some very good things. He certainly is worth more time on the pitch....but thats Rickis call. I would start him and Greenacre on Wednesday and put Leo on the bench. Leo started with a hiss and a roar this season but he looks like he has run himself into the ground....missing a game will do him some good.

That is utter rubbish.

You honestly think Brown would be getting the space he has if Greeny wasn't creating it? He is a solid hardworking pro - which is exactly what  we need. We're building a foundation that will deliver high standards with consistency  and I for one think he has added a much needed cornerstone for that. He leads by example and that is also an invaluable asset in any player. I've seen much more inconsistency from Leo this last 4 weeks.

The fact that he has scored everywhere he has gone tells me it isn't 100% his fault, hence the excuses made. If it was an unknown player who hasn't had a good record in the past it would be different.

sweet, a hardworking 'pro' who has a crap first touch, doesn't seem to take the 'ugly' goals he claims to be good at scoring and isn't good at linking with other players.

get him a long term deal now

ehhh...I just want to see players pop up and score...There seemed to be ball after ball to the near post where there was no-one making a run, despite having 3 players in the box...

and we had nothing through the middle and no one taking on their markers- something Greenie doesn't seem to do much. Leo did once, put in a threatening cross and moments later was pulled.

perhaps El grap you could turn your crystal ball to how we are going to score 3 goals a game regularly...

Greenacre did get around, and it was a nice slip off his marker at the back post- but still no results, and you suspect he hasn't had to take the whole responsibility for an attack that we've dumped on him.

Also as a style preference I like an attacking line with the ability to attack on a fast counter- like Sydney used well against us, and Melbourne uses. Daniel, Ifill, Greenie and Leo haven't proved able to flow into a quick counter that well yet...

Costa and Greenacre might be better- Also if Costa starts he will get more attention now everyone knows a bit more about him- the same way Leo has after his early form.

I don't mind Greenacre, but it is nearly close to half way point of the season and something needs to be done.

Everyone in the midfield are either deep in the centre and out on the wings leaving a large gap in the front centre midfield. Hopefully this will be filled by Fred and then the short and direct centralised ball can reach Greenacre's feet more frequently per game.

To get some perspective - he has got sh*tall service all year and has still scored a goal every 4 games. Not good enough, for sure, but when we lump balls into the box from near on half way most of the time it isn't suprising.

Thought about it a bit more and have finally come to this conclusion (so forget my other team):

                      Crowther
Muscat    Sigmund     Durante       Lochhead
Hearfield               Brown              Ifill
                Caceres
                 Greenacre     Barbarouses

If it turns out we're getting outmuscled can always lose Hearfield for Lia (with Caceres dropping back from AM to RM) or swap Caceres for Lia straight, with Lia slotting in beside Brown.

yep. But still people claim Greenacre is "rubbish"

what can he do with the ball in the air when he is the only striker at 180 cm tall ??????

he said it himself - give the ball to his feet in the box and he is likely to bury it. he is the best finisher in the whole bloody squad.
