from fred Woodcock's story on front page

>>>>Meanwhile, teenager Costa Barbarouses will join New South Wales Premier League club Macarthur Rams till July to get some much-needed minutes under his belt. He joins recently released defender Steven Old at the club.

And Pignata confirmed he was in discussions with several Victorian Premier League clubs about striker Greg Draper also getting a stint in Australia before the A-League season starts in August. Draper, like Barbarouses, saw little match time last season.  <<<

has to be a good thing, hopefully it'll allow him to push on in the A-league this season

The Phoenix should set up their own team in one of the state leagues so they can give these guys a run.

They could base it in Canberra.

Now we just sit back and watch him score thirty goals on our way to winning The A-League V4 Grand Title.

Probably not the best team to play for considering that the Rams are coming second last in the NSWPL but on the flip side good opportunity for him to bag a number of goals..

While we're at it,anyone here got a good site to order on-line an NZFC shirt? I presume Rebel is an obvious one. Any others people know of?
Thought I might get Costa's sig while he's here. Might as well, can't be too long before he's in.
On the other hand I don't want to jinx him.

NZ Football strip... not an NZFC strip.  Big difference.

I'd still try Champs, they can probably find one.

Sorry man I forgot to mention I live in the Australia.
That Champ site doesn't seem to do NZ National Team Strip. Rebel was a head f**k. Didn't see any National Team Jerseys. WTF? They're supposed to be sponsors,no?
I'm surprised at how difficult this is proving to be.

The sponsorship is up for negotiation... send Champs #1 a PM, he may be able to help.

I did see some at a Nike shop in Auckland, you could try and find the phone number for Nike at the Dressmart in Auckland.

Ok cool. Champs#1 being a member of this forum, right?
Shame about the 2 hr time diff as most NZ shops are closed by the time I get home.

Info on the League (including the draw) is here: http://www.soccernsw.com.au/index.php?id=78

No mention of Costa in this week's Preview but then the Preview is fairly sh*t (Park Life correspondents note that they could do a vastly superior job to the monkeys at Footy NSW).

The club's website is here: http://www.macarthurrams.com.au/index.htm

Again, doesn't tell you much.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I reckon its crap all that international transfer stuff.....Costa, Spoonley and Draper all should have been able to go back to play for Team Wellington and other NZF teams on loan as soon as the a-League finished and then come back to the Phoenix at seasons end.  There should be some flexibility for youth players. Otherwise it just holds  back their growth. ( i mean their playing growth not their height)

The NSWPL transfer window is closed for another few weeks. Costa went there to train with the team for 2 weeks. He will be ready to play in two weeks. The club have looked after him over there with accomodation and gym membership. We also got Steve Old a contract over there as well with the same team. Hopefully they will help the team move up the ladder.

I might be missing something here but how come Costa can be loaned to an NSW club team and then come back to the Phoenix in time for the A-League but he can't apparently have been loaned to Team Wellington to play in the NZFA comp?......anyone like to explain?

Actually, a lot of people on this forum care about TW.

also (if it weren't for the transfer rules) it would be great to see him in action here in NZ as he builds up to a starting/bench role with the Nix tigers2008-04-17 21:56:58

Distressing as it is to admit it, I think ggg is right.  Costa has done TW and the NZFC.  Now it's about proving you can master living away from family and friends and playing in a different environment.

He'll be better for playing in the NSWPL rather than the NZFC.

thats what i mean. its a backwards step going to team wgtn.

These young guys need as mauch game time as possible, at as high a level as possible. If NSW is the way to get it, then I've got no complaints.

Anyone know if Champs #1 is around? I sent a PM but got no reply.
On Holiday?
If anyone else can think of an on-line store where I can purchase an NZ National Team strip from here in Oz would be greatly appreciated.

Be great to have had Costa in this year's NZFC, but  can't wait to see him get a few decent games and start a few alongside S.meltz this season. I'm sur h can bag a few goals aswell if he's given the opportunity
