Why don't Wellington Rugby publish their attendance figures ????? lol

We release ours "10 thou plus" ain't bad for a Sunday evening when we would all normally be at church.

I actually would have liked to see a bigger crowd for the game. We had 14k for the opener last season and you would think that more people would have been exposed to the 'Nix since then. I guess there has just been an over saturation of sports coverage with the Rugby and the Olympics going on and that has probably distracted the casual sports fan.

So was I. Something like 34,000 with a couple of thousand still outside when the house full signs went up.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I reckon given the weather we've been having 10k was pretty good, was brilliant like 15k would hav been, but when the other games only get 16k with both teams copntributing I reckong we did well.!

The weather during the day was cracking, one of the nicest winter days we've had this season, and the forecast was not for rain (even though it did eventually happen), so I'm not sure why that's being used as an excuse.

Why should people make attendences public....Remember Rugby will always be Number 1 in NZ

My partner and I were told by the guy at the gate to just go throgh the turnstile and not scan our membership cards - it seemed like the scanners weren't working.  Did this happen to others?  If so, how can they get an accurate record of the crowd number?

yes the weather that weekend was greatm, hasn't been for three or more weeks though. My comment was simply to point out that some punters may have stayed home due to how cold and nasty it has been!

Compared to the rugby crowds of late 10500 is awesome!

They didnt scan mine either. Im sure that was the case with many others. So, I think the total figure must have been an informed guestimate.

I certainly dont think 10.5 was an over-estimate based on last season. Felt about right. A bit disappointing though. I was hoping for 15, but all opening round games had fairly light crowds.

GA, of course its not compulsory to make crowd nos public, but its a point of public interest and if you withhold attendance figures for no particular reason (except that youd rather keep it secret), you're going to get a very hard time and look pretty silly tbh.

Good point but it is very well known that a CEO of any Football club and yes I mean all football codes sign off the final figure before it goes public, I attended both games and to me it seemed more like 4500 on Friday and 7500 on Sunday. I go to a game to watch it and not guess crowd numbers but I laugh at people pretending when it is obvious the crowd is lower than stated.

I am annoyed all sporting codes need to lie to try and make themselves look and feel good.

It is not a great surprise that most organisation return losses to the bottom line year after year....but we are told their crowd figures are so high....

Hard News - Dont worry about the Cats we are flying we have 36,850 members....

Kind Regards

i personally was very dissapointed with the crowd last night in comparison to last season and after getinng 9+ K on a wenesday for the final, sure hope we get some pretty big improvements so we can overhaul our average crowds from last season

The crowd numbers may just reflect the current economic climate ,belts are tightening all round.
I reckon most paid  public events will show down turns this year in crowd numbers and ticket sales unless the product is something very special ,if the team performs well on a regular basis the  good crowds will be maintained  and may well increase, but if there is   anything other than consistent quality then i reckon crowds of 3-4000 would become norm maybe even less if things really go pear shaped !

Id say Olympics may too have an impact on the crowd figures at the mo, everyone has got the Olympic bug and dtaying home for that Synchronised Swimming may well have swung the half pie fan, whoever they may be.....

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

This may not go down well, but being the only stadium available we've got to have the games there but I'd be in favour of another venue - if we had one. I find the stadium too big - if we had something that was decent and would fit 14-16,000 the atmos would be electric. Save the stadium for the semis and final.
It is great to go to, but if the crowds don't get larger than the 12,500 average last year then it must be hard to justify. On saying that I don't know how rugby do it with lower attendance, but I do know the atmosphere is 0/10

it's a tough one Royal, I'd love a 20,00 seater rectangular stadium  but we need the RoF for big "events" like egg-chasing tests, the oval ball world cup in 2011, seven-a-side egg-chasing and concerts. sadly we cannot have both

The basin only holds 15-16k, maybe we could put some money into getting that up to standard!
Imagine the YF Zone on the embankment!

Basin has historic place protection and why would you want to change the basin? Its a great place!
The Stadium is a just another symptom of having a small economy, just not viable to have specialist stadiums. However if/when Wellington gets an NRL team would their be someone around with enough money to build a stadium for both sides like the Gold Coast Stadium
