So 3 games undefeated, long weekend, Air NZ Cup final the night before, Public holiday the day after.
All contributing factors. Discuss.
Basically i want to gauge how busy it will be at the Backbencher beforehand so i can plan to knock off early have have a few drinks or work up till 1/4 hour before kick-off and dash down to the stadium.

I dont think you will see thousands and thousands more, maybe 9,500 and I would be happy with that

I'm guessing around 8500 if it's a nice day.

Do you think the travelling Cantab Eggball fans will make the effort to go see the Nix?
Permalink Permalink

Would they even know that the game's on?

Well from my experience Cantabrians (sic) tend to be all round sports fans, and given the numbers they got to the pre season game down south I'm guessing there might be a bit of an incentive for fans off both codes to make the trip up this weekend.

11,000 for a semi final at the rugby on the weekend, would be nice to see a club football match beat a semi final crowd but can't see it. Around 8000 for me, if the weather is good.

Oh, and no chance of an oval ball supporter from Canterbury coming to the game.

With the Rugby taking the discretionary dollar this weekend i'd say 7-8k.  After that, if results and weather stay reasonable we should be looking for 10k plus most matches.

Well, it's a public holiday on Monday, so they don't have to be back home by Sunday night.

UG may be onto something there, I wonder if the Nix might think about doing some Chch specific advertising to capitalise on this opportunity?

I'm a travelling Cantab egg ball fan (aswell as a Phoenix fan but meh ) and I shall be there.

I was optimistic. 12k +

I'd be happy with close to $10k, I think the unbeaten status will draw a good crown, although the weather isn't expected to eb that good.

10,893 +/-1 ...not sure if my sister is going or not.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The Nix marketing dept should be looking at trying to get some of the Cantabs that will be coming for the final along, get out to the airport with posters and stuff. Similarly coming down SH1, people coming into town need to know the game is on

Flyers on the concourse was my thought.

I'm calling it 8,500 if the weather is good and we get any media bandwidth this week with the final and all.

we are going to have Nix posters up all over the place @ the BB(once they arrive) so the crowd on saturday night will get saturated with Nixy goodness. plus we will be giving away some tickets to the game (thanks to Lion & Ballantynes)

I'd be very happy with $10k. What do you think the crowd would be like though?

the crowd wont go past 8k.

last years labour weekend came v ccm was an absolute stunner, we started drinking and enjoyning the sun at james deans place at 10am and the crowd wasnt that good. take 300 of wellingtons young footballers and their families out of the city and it makes a big difference.

My heart says we can crack 9000 but to be honest I think 7-8k is realistic. Labour weekend will take more than it adds and I really doubt we'll get many cantabs either

You know we belong together...

8500 tbh. The rugby will steal more punters than in brings in.

8-10k considering ANZC final day before it will be pretty good.

My prediction is that I'll be getting drunk and singing my heart out for the lads!

And selling Canteen scarves if the lads get organized and get them to me.....

It's with Marius.  There was some talk that they don't have the Yellow and Black like last year but he is talking to them to confirm or deny that.

You'd just wish they'd do a special ticket where you can go to both for a cheap price...

Or am I the only one who loves both rugby and football?

9.000 - The latest crowd was 6,500 and the nix form will up it to 8000, and labour weekend will make it 9,000. it could be more but the rugby final being on the night before  + the fact that it is on at 6pm sunday wont help.

Probably too late, but I would have though a 'celebrate Wellington sport' special double header ticket would be a real goer - particularly that the Nix are now WINNERS.  Or, something like half price for the other ticket if you already have one .

Problem is for the first time Wgtn might actually sell out the rugby - a lot of cantabs live in these parts, and they always attract a good gate (mind you 11.5k for a semi is appalling, so the rugby folk may be keen on a promotion).

I know, I know, its serious!

everybody loves a winner, and with a bit of decent recent publicity concerning results, some of the doubters will start returning. it will take some time though to get back to the halcyon days of 20k plus every week.

what? we haven't had those days yet....? ok, maybe we might have to settle for about 8k for now then. keep up the good performances though, "and they will come".
