Good to see the club offer a final four membership. They have been more innovative this season

Yes. I imagine lots of fans would be too.

Perhaps just the cricket score along the bottom of the big screen (score, overs, current batsmen) will suffice.

And the bandwagon jumperoners have started. The Mayor as big a fan as John Key. Someone pointed out this would happen a few months back.

The more press the Nix get, the more crouds will come. Bring on the bandwagoners!

Good!

All aboard! Get on the bandwagon everyone!

I don't care when you decide coming to the Phoenix is a good idea, or why, just as long as you decide to get onboard.

It's fantastic. There's 34,000 seats on this bandwagon. Let's fill it to capacity.

We WANT people to get on the bandwagon don't we? We should be actively encouraging it. I know I have been every home game this season...

I am all for new fans joining us but i am sceptical about the motives of some of our more high profile fans. A genuine interest because the Nix are now doing well or a self promotion interest.

I guess we can't get too elitest about it because we all knew it was gonna happen. ACFC probably said that same thing when Kiwitea was packed 1st home game after CWC against the Weenix. 2 weeks ago against Waitakere there was hardly anyone there.

'Tis the nature of the bandwagoner. All we can do is make a little room for their temporary stay and thank them for putting their coin in while they are here.

At fred taylor not Kiwitea. But your point still stands. Doubt they'll get a big croud at Kiwitea for the return match.

Apologies. It was 8th March at Kiwitea so 2.5 weeks ago *facepalm*

I have zero expectations for any decent croud/croud this Sunday. Given that the BlackCaps have now made history and are playing in a Cricket World Cup Final on Sunday. (Well done boys!)

But, fully expect the Melbourne Victory game to be our biggest croud/croud of the season...

While this may be a legitimate one - we always seem to have an excuse/something to blame for keeping people away.

Calculating how the Wellington Phoenix can more get more fans along to games and forecasting GDP are two of the diverse problems being tackled by "big data" company Dotlovesdata.

Wells said Dotlovesdata was also starting to look at whether the number of fans that attended games influenced the team's performance, for example the number of shots taken, corners won, passes and tackles. "Is an extra 100 fans worth two corners, which means an extra goal in four games, or whatever it is?"

I can tell you the answer. It's zero goals.

Surprised how they claim supporters who live in the central city were the most fickle - given theyre the closest to the ground. I live on Willis Street and cant use any of the excuses i had to not go to games when i lived in Ptown

I was thinking the same thing as I read it: Shocking revelation - teams that win attract bigger crouds.

Hardly anything to read here. Move along.

But that's exactly it. If you live within walking distance you can change your mind infinitely. If you're coming in from, for example, Wallaceville, it's a mission which requires planning and which you can't give up at the last minute of the weather's a bit shark or Nathan Burns is injured.

But you do need 11 geeks to prove it on paper so that capitalists will be prepared to put $000,000s into fixing it.

For me it was the opposite. Something would happen last minute or i just couldnt be bothered putting in the effort, so i wouldnt turn up. Now even if im not feeling like doing anything at all, its still just a short walk so i may as well go.

Come to think of it - I missed more games last season with a season pass than I have missed this season without one.

In addition to Dale's observation abotu students, I also think the CBD dwellers are the MOST likely to be on the day deciders because they walk to the ground (many do anyway) and therefore they wait, see what the weather is doing, and or other offers for their time, and decide at the last minute if they will go or not.

Others who have to plan transport probably need to decide and plan slightly more in advance.

Yeah I'm a student and can confirm thats what most probably do. Would also love to see some advertising from the club around the uni's, especially for these last few games leading up to the finals, as I think there's plenty more students who just aren't aware of games.

Quantified I think you mean?

That just adds to the accepted wisdom/experienced observations.  Or they could have looked at your graphs over the last few seasons and matched them with game results.

Some predictive analysis based on this and the current Nix form would be useful.

Or another way to spin it would be.

Club spends money on big data research to tell them something fans could have done over cold beer.
