Hey guys,

Sorry I couldn't be at last night's game, with the drum.

I saw on TV that you now have a yellow fever banner out in front. Can anyone tell me where you got it printed? I've been looking for someone who will do something similar for me to what you did.

I'm looking for someone who can print/make a banner that will last a full season with the words: "DANIEL'S CORNER" in huge letters. I would want something about 5 metres long and say 120 cms high that you can tie to the raillings.

good/bad idea?

I was thinking about $500 would be enough to procure such an item.

The rugby types had "Jonah's corner" and before that it was "Bernie's corner" in athletic park. I basically want to say: "we own this ground now" this is now a football stadium. This is Phoenix territory. Wellington is a football town and is the epicentre of New Zealand football.

ok?

speak to Phil at RYOS - he has contacts. There was one outside his store yesterday wishing the team well for the final which must have been whipped up in a hurry

ok. will do.

Now as for English or Port. hmm I dunno.

either would be really cool. In english it would put it up the rugby heads but in port. it would be pretty awesome too.

Great stuff! I like the idea of having it in both English and Portuguese. The more banners the better, I say!

they dont have to be mutually exclusive mate, some of us enjoy both codes so to alienate the lions/hurricanes/phoenix fans isnt a great idea. i like the idea of havings a banner with daniels corner on it, just dont like your motivations for it to 'put one up the rugby people'. get a grip mate you sound as bad as the 'soccer is for poofs' brigade on the other side of the coin.

Whoah hold up. Have a feeling that that is not really his sole motivation buddy.

Think it's a pretty choice idea (and you seem to have your grip so no need to go finding another as suggested...).

I fail to see how he is alienating anyone here. I dont think he intends to leave the banner up there for Lions games. Don't have a go at the guy for being passionate - he wasn't sl*gging off egg chasers at all.

Yup he mentions it, but the way its quoted its put as the first thing G says after Hi, implying the key motivation. I definitely don't think it is there to 'stick it up the egg chasers', more just a general good idea- this is Daniel's home etc...

i only had a problem with that certain part of what he said so saw no point in quoting the whole lot.

There's that flagmakers outfit on the Old Hutt Road, but I have also used Advocate Print in Rotorua for banners. Google them cos I'm too lazy.

Hha Sounds like a good idea - Gman have you called that number that guy suggested.
And would this go alongside the Yellow Fever banner?

Good to see ya around Gman!  Sounds like a plan for sure, I would probably suggest having it in English mainly because it might be a little too much of an in-joke (as it were) in port, however there's nothing to say you can't have both on there, one or the other subtitled.

sorry to piss on anyones chips, but I think it is a terrible idea, as it is just ripping off a rugby thing.  The thing about the fever that has appealled to neutrels is that it has been innovative - doing things that no one in NZ has seen before.  If we start ripping off rugby ideas, and taking them as our own, we are in trouble.

No problems with the banner, just try to get something on it that is new and original.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

Agree with Frankie Mac.  Change it to 'Daniel's Kiwi Corner' which would be quite a good chant too, by the bye, and the two together (the chant and the sign) would indicate not ownership (the rugger heads Bernie's Corner thing) but, instead, support.  It would in effect be saying 'we're in your corner Daniel.

What is portuguese for "Daniel's semicircle?"
Permalink Permalink

g-man great idea about the banner, esp the Portuguese bit, we could even lose the word "corner" to keep Frankie happy

and to be completely honest (even if slightly off topic, and raising an 'old' issue), it was very, very, very pleasant last night not having the drums interrupt, confuse and generally interfere with the chanting

no headache, people picking up the chants easily -because they could hear them - good stuff

I like the idea. I see were people are coming from not wanting to rip off rugby, but as was mentioned earlier i could see Daniel coming over to kiss it after a goal. would be top notch

Thank god somebody mentioned this. Yes it was fantastic without that bloody drum!
