He needs a hair cut.

Voted prettiest boy in the team by the girls on Fri night - a new Daniel Carter type maybe? Give him a new do and put him in some jockeys, and we won't give a sh*t if he dives ;)

George is like Big Foot or the Loch Ness monster or the Moa lots of people think they have seen him but no hard concrete evidence yet!!

I'm quite certain I saw Nessy in the Firth of Forth after a bender once.

I'm not going to get used to it. It will always annoy me. Imagine if the Phoenix were up 2-1 in the grand final and Archie Thompson dived and got Melbourne a penalty and they went on to win? I'm sure that would change a few attitudes towards this pathetic practice.

Diving  is wrong. It looks  pathetic when one player does it, and it would look ridiculous if the whole team did it.
It's not cricket, you've got to play to the whistle. You can't be appealing for decisions while the ball's still in play.
Rugby fans will think we're a bunch of wusses for tolerating such pansy crap.
Daniel is talented as long as he stays off the ground.

I'm not a big fan of players diving either but it happens in leagues all over the world. Daniel is only doing what comes naturally to him.

He will soon realise that in the A-League he's less likely to earn a free kick by diving and more likely to give one away instead.

Ironic he has Barcelona in his avatar - typical.

some times he bites off more than he can chew and looses the ball when a simple pass would have set up an attacking oppurtunity. he is a key player but he needs to play more like a team player and not go solo all the time. his diving doesnt bother me at all, its part of the game now.

just realised i repeated some stuff, sorry lads + lassesWARZYCHA2007-09-04 23:41:37

That's pretty much all the Italians do. Infact, I can only think of one foul on an Italian (good old Zinedine Zidane) which was so good I think France should have been given a freekick (pretty faulty logic I know).loyalgunner2007-09-06 16:21:14

Grosso didn't dive. Lucas Neill is an overrated hack.

End of.

This has got nothing to do with Lucas Neill being a hack or not. Grosso dived about as unconvincingly as Daniel when he got a yellow card in game one.loyalgunner2007-09-06 16:41:16

Speaking of his yellow cards, he has had a yellow card in each of the last two games, does that make him suspended for game 3? I know it's like that in the World Cup, but not sure if it's like that in club competitions.

A dive is where there is no contact.  Neill hit Grosso.  Penalty.  Goodbye Aussie.  Good riddance.

Not necessary most times Daniel 'dives' he gets touched but not enough to make him hit the ground.

Well whether contact was made or not it was pathetic and Grosso may as well go out their wearing a dress so that the players know he's a pansy and can't be touched.

A-League rules are 4 yellows = 1 match suspension; when you accumulate 7 yellows = 2 matches; and 10 yellows = 3 matches. 1 red = 1 match suspension; 2 reds = 2 matches etc.

Daniel doesn't dive.  He overacts.

When he got the yellow in game 1 he had his supporting leg taken out.  It would have been very difficult if not impossible to stay on his feet.

The problem is that with the space he had created by beating the man he had time to get up, have a stretch, go take a leak, and then put a pass through to one of the strikers.  Instead he rolls around on the ground instead of trying to play on.

It seems the ref was just waiting for an excuse to book him, fair enough, probably good for him.  Just hope that they make some attempt to stop Victory from barging the team off the park next time.

Just a little. 4 yellows is a 1 match suspension, so you sit out a game. Then if you collect 3 more you get a 2 match suspension, and you sit out 2 games. If you then get 3 more yellows you get a 3 match suspension, and you sit out 3 games.

Looks like a bloody good reason not to dive IMHO...

That's the idea.

Regarding the whole diving issue...  FIFA don't care about it.  The SPL were going to introduce a retrospective video panel to look at diving and issue fines and bans on players who are caught play-acting - but FIFA over-ruled them and said this would be outside the rules of the game.  If FIFA actually wanted to stop the problem they would have applauded the Scots for coming up with the idea.

As for Daniel, as has been said before - quality players are trained to take any opportunity, to look for the leg, etc.  When Grosso went over Niell in the box - it was only because Niell presented him with an irresistable oportunity, one that Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka would have taken like a shot...  Would I like a penalty?  Too right I would...  Oh dear, I've fallen...

I've never really seen the point of the whole argument over diving.

If there's a foul then the ref should give a free kick.
If the guy is rolling around the floor for no reason then play on - he can waste as much time as he wants lying down.

Should just be up to the ref to make that call and we just have to accept that sometimes mistakes happen.

One wonders whether the A-League officials have asked their refs to stamp out diving given there are so many brazilians playing now.

I reckon they have and are doing it unfairly,  Refs go into games looking closely at Daniel (et al)  to look for 'simulation', there obviously is a bias towards 'local' players getting away with it.

Pre World Cup the referees were told to watch Peter Crouch carefully and penalise him more, this was the Official FIFA briefing. So it isn't like it doesn't happen
