Stop flopping around on the ground like a pig in sh*t and when you do get fouled, you'll actually get the free kick. Does anyone not think that referees are looking for it and are acutely aware of it now??

Good on ya Peter for calling them correctly

Yeah Peters been calling well.

Totally agree, Daniel's a puff. Get stuck in lad or get off the f**king pitch

Doesn't change the fact he unnecessarily goes to ground way to often.

He did get injured, but most of the time he's 'diving', he is really only making it more difficult on himself as Drquack32 said, the ref will be reluctant to give him free kicks once they've all caught on to his tricks (if they  haven't already).

Dear..... muppet. Did I say anything about him being injured? Did I refer to that anywhere above, cause I must have used an ink that I can't read if you can see it. I was referring to his fondness for falling over and deep love of Wellington grass.

He just has to learn to stay on his feet and forget that gamesmanship crap.

And before that? Puffing about. Be twice the player if he gets stuck in.

i take it ur english... hes a left midfielder who wanders dont think his job is to get stuck in
Permalink Permalink

Yeah, I am.

Everyone else seemed to be getting stuck in. Felipe is an AM and about 2 foot 5 and he put his body about and wore his heart on his sleeve.

Daniel, when faced with any physicality either lost out, or fell over.

Does he? How often is "to often" (sic)?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

its not his style or game to get stuck in he knicks a lot of ball of players like filipe hes involved in those scraps more he is light on his feets and jst glides low centa of gravity also makes it easier for him

He does carry on a bit. He can beat these players with pure skill so I dont know why he has to try and draw the foul. Ricki has some work to do, If Daniel comes through though he will tear the league apart.

i thought he had a pretty decent game and he can only get better if he stays stronger on his feet.

He was fouled twice (that I saw) , just outside of the box, and on the goal line - I don't know for sure, but I'd bet he fell over more than twice. He needs to toughen up. It's almost embarrasing watching him leap to the ground. Ricki can get the best out of him if he's not being a princess.

that foul just outside the box.....should have been a red...shame it was only 6 mins in though otherwise the ref may have pulled out a red card

Weve gone through this once already.

Daniel does dive, but against the Jets he looked alot more settled and theres only more good to come.

Dont come down on him so hard, changing leagues isnt the easiest of things, i know hes busting balls with his erratic dives but give him him a break.

Maybe you should learn the definition of what a foul tackle is then.....

DrQuack, Jiz08's post refers to diving, not fouls

gravity works regardless of  Law 11, put simply a player can go down without having dived from a tackle that was or wasn't a foul

we seem to disagree with you partly because of the inflamatory tone of your initial post, your agressive responses to criticism (which to be fair i got caught up in last night), and because you aren't seeing what is front of you - look at the words ref

Daniel dived too much at the start of the season, he improved a bit then slipped back a bit, but he is staying on his feet more often and will continue to improve

I wonder if the referees have decided before kick off that he is going to dive????  and are responding to their prejudice rather than the facts???

coming from a sport (hockey) where diving gets you nothing, it frustrates the heck out of me when footballers dive.  Dan has been thus far the prime source of frustration to me.
Having said that, I recall only one play that got on me last night, and that's a damn sight better'n it has been!
All power to him i say, he's finding his feet....and i'm backing him to come up trumps!

Granted maybe I am getting caught up in the words. I'll rephrase my angle.

When you roll around 3 or 4 times to make the foul seem worse than it is, thats gamesmanship. When you dive in order to get the free-kick, thats gamesmanship. Daniel should concentrate more on football rather than gamesmanship.

There is a guy up here in Auckland plays for Bay Olympic in the Northern Premier League. He NEVER goes down in a tackle, in fact he makes more of an effort to stay on his feet and keep playing. I applaud that attitude because thats what football is about, playing positively (I'm referring to the gamesmanship aspect here)

Call me a little delusional and a romantisism for quality footbal but I just have no time for gamesmanship because it detracts from the spectacle. We are quick to scream cheating aussie bastards when their guys go down but when its one of our own, we can't say anything? The season is only 3 games old, I've watched the 2 home games and I haven't seen a difference. Now maybe he was an angel last week, I don't know as I didn't see the game. To say he is diving less than the start of the season, well maybe if we had 7 games we could quantify a difference.

I'll put it like this. When the boy cried wolf for the 3rd time and no-one came, what happened to the sheep?

So do you blame Ricki for not coaching him to stay on his feet? Do you blame Daniel because he is a devious bastard? Do you blame Daniel cause (I'm assuming) he came from better grade of football where gamesmanship is common place? Do you blame the referees because they have a bias against his antics? I can tell you the best way to fix it is just stay on his feet. If he ever gets to that stage where he can play for 90mins and leave the crap out of it, then I'll be the first poster here to eat crow and I have no problems with that what so ever.

I'm not wanting to get at the guy (as much as it comes across like that) because he obviously has ability as a footballer that i nor most of us will never have. Just get him focusing his energies in the right place and thats scoring goals and not being a cheat. Then I can enjoy my game with a win each week rather than having to justify to my workmates that this team in not the knights and they should be respected as a side that plays good football and wins.

at the futsal show ... daniel was talking to my brazilian mate. he said he is having a very hard time with physical side of the A-league he is trying to improve. so i don't think he is diving. and he did improve last night so fairplay to him........

Yeah I think that Daniel's  improving more each game.  It's a different style for him, so it naturally must be hard to 'assimilate' at the rate we expect him to.  I noticed a big change in him last night, and was impressed.  Onwards and upwards, I say.

The A-league is probably the roughest football league that I've seen, so fair enough that he isn't used to it, but that doesn't explain him going down when he gets barely touched, as their is nothing rough about that.

Anyone who plays football should know how easy it is to get knocked over when ur twisting and turning.  Daniel is not the most solid guy out there.
