How on earth did Daniel not get a penalty in that first game against Adelaide when Costanzo chopped him three times ?  FFS.

Oh, hang on... is that Ben Williams I see refereeing ?  What a surprise.

That video is genius.

yeah totally right, we were robbed of a couple of penalty chances thanks to Ben Williams - but Daniel is a flopper!

Wow, reminds you how he was at the heart of so many of our best moments. Some of those crossfield passes and curling corners were fantastic! I hope Dnaiel, Gao and Leo can all gel together, they could be magical for us!

Now that man knows how to cross, unlike a certain marquee player.

The interplay between him,Felipe and I think Ferrante in that one game was on of the highlights of the season imo. Was awesome.

Some of the bits in that vid aren't really worthy of a 'highlights' reel tbh but still a great piece of work.

Sure you could make most look like they could cross on a highlights reel.Because he sure didnt cross like that in many games he played and to pretend he did is very wrong.Amazing how we look through rose tinted glasses in relation to some players who play for the Phoenix.

Eh? Daniel and Lochhead were probably the best crossers for us last season. That wasn't exactly hard though.

Are you sure you watched all the games as there is no way Daniel was effective with his crosses in all games in fact some of his attempts were poor ,and to suggest it is just wrong.There were many times when even his corners were poor.

Not at all HN. Just seems to me that many posting on here have forgotten that we finished a  poor last.Yet you would think if you were an outsider and reading the forums that a certain player was the cause of it all.

To suggest that Daniel was one of best crossers of the ball is wrong when from my memory i dont even think we had a good crosser so its wrong to even we had  a best one.

No one was in Greene's class (obviously) but Lochhead and Daniel did put some decent crosses in from both the by-line and deeper.

Of course they (and Ahmad) could have done better which is why we have Leilei Gao and Leo Bertos to provide the width and Daniel can pull strings from the middle where many of his best touches in that video were.

If his few games at the Knights were anything to go by, LeiLei could offer us great "delivery" this season.  A-league commentators.  FFS.

Great video.  Though it does miss Daniel's touches/foul which led to Felipee's 'wonder strike.'

Maybe we could start a new thread or even a new separate menu on the home page for links to videos.. I notice that most of the highlights of every Phoenix game are available on you tube.

Duh!!!!!

That must be one of the dumbest blogs I have ever read....are you taking the piss Ballane?

Daniel and Lockhead provided plenty of good crosses last season...to say they did'nt is bollocks!!!
That game against Perth( for example) Daniel provided crosses for three of the goals and Lockhead the other.

FACT....Daniel finished high up in the goal assists list in the A-League last season.
FACT....Daniel would be happily signed by any other club in the A-League

Ballanes just having a man period without daniel we would of had to rely on ball from El**ch all season (now theres a thought)

The old rose covered glasses sure seem to work well on some of you,goal assists dosnt have to mean a cross so dont bring that up.Does seem that some cant offer debate without getting abusive.Its also a fact that our delivery of the ball was mostly crap and it all wasnt down to one player.I seem to recall a number threads over the season with people complaining about corners,freekicks etc.Yes Daniel could put a good ball across that i do agree with,however to suggest he did it on a consistent basis is wrong.Wow game against Perth yep did okay,thats one of the few we won.Know take a look at some of those we lost,or our bad run at the end of the season.

The way some carry on you wouldnt have thought we finished last.

Lochhead was a pretty good crosser, but we can obviously still improve. I'd rather see Daniel as a central midfielder; he seems to play all over the place anyway!

I think Lochhead's crossing was better. There was one game, the adelaide 4-1 win and everytime he crossed it was a chance going begging. Daniel in the middle sounds good with Gao & Bertos, it could be most interesting. Now all we need is a Peter Crouch type forward to help Smeltz out with the scoring chances. Covs will try hard and hopefully get a few more goals for us - I hope. But we still need another big forward. What's Duncan Fergusson doing these days??

While signing another forward to add depth to the squad would be nice I don't actually think playing with 2 up front is going to be the way to go. I think we would look very nice lining up with a Roma or ManU style 4231 as it allows us to play Daniel, Gao and Bertos and still have Ferrante and a holding midfielder in the center.

Here's how I'd line us up:

==========Moss==========

Lia==McKain===Durante==Lochhead

======Ferrante==Brown======

Gao=======Daniel======Bertos

=========Smeltz==========

yeh that is some class...and a great wee dive for the free kick too! doesn't come up much when people say how much he dived...

I love how as the ball leaves Felipe's foot on path to the back of the net the commentator starts to say "They'll be anxious not to concede again-Felipe!

well that does put pressure on our midfield to say score goals ala Giggs, Ronaldo, Scholes...or Totti...

are any of them known for their distance shooting?

I didn't think either of them were left footed? And yeah, Hearfield as bench cover for Smeltz and Daniel.

That line up would struggle to score imo. Too much pressure on Smeltz.

it seems likely that this wouldn't always be the starting line up and that one of Leo Gao or Daniel would be impact players?

or that we would sacrifice any starch in the midfield? or gulp a 3 man defence? Seems unlikely with the number of defenders that we have...

We're not set to one formation, it will change depending on the players available and our intentions game to game.  I don't know that Daniel, Bertos and Gao will all start, it would seem far more sensible to leave Gao or Bertos off till mid second half when they can come on with explosive pace.

Course this is all speculation but I'd like to see a 4-4-2 formation allowing Lochhead to get forward and put some crosses in which wasn't feasible in our 3-5-2.  Course Bertos and Gao can cross as well but the more options the better.

Daniel seemed to play well when he had Filipe running around him and vice versa. They fed off each other brilliantly

Daniel's corners are crackers. Hard and low is what causes trouble for defence and easier to attack.

That's all I have.......
