hmm pastons performmance hardly helped me decide which goalkeper should play. Some great saves including 2 in a row in the first half but a few soft goals.

And yes knights comparisons should be instant beating with the ban stick.chocnut2007-10-28 21:37:39

PMSL reading this thread.

How could anyone compare us with incarnations of the past?? For starters more than 20 fans show up to our home games. Come to think of it, MORE Nix fans show up at our away games than either Auckland side got at home games!

There is just no comparrison. As felipe said, the Nix try and play football. And they don't drop their heads at the first sign of trouble.

Actually, I'm pretty sure more people from Auckland go to the 'Nix games than went to K***s  or K*****s games!

Yeah well i was one of those "20" fans and i'm glad i stuck by the Kingz/Knights through all 7 years of their existence. Had some great fun throughout it in the Bloc despite some of the absolute rubbish we were witness too.

But of course we were still sh*t fans right? Is that what you're getting at?

Three for me, and two for them.

Dont think anyone is questioning(or I hope not) your loyalty or passion or suggesting you were sh*t fans, just a shame some more people up there didnt feel the same way. From my point of view just get sick of seeing the constant comparisons when really there are none to made.
We may well be about to find out just how many of those who were quick to jump on board are also about to jump off just as quickly.
For me its you block5 guys who showed how its done.Have respect for you all.

Cheers for that ballane.

Spose you could say i get a bit hot under the collar when i hear people go on about the Kingz/Knights fans because there were a small (and yes it was small) group of us who stuck by them week in week out no matter how sh*t they were or how bad the weather was or any other circumstances that may stop us from going.

It's better off in Welly anyway, in a city who cares. Apart from us no one cared in Auckland. We probably got ripped worse by fellow Aucklanders than by anyone else in the country. Auckland is a big market to crack much bigger than Wellington but that's still no excuse for all the other t**sers who claimed to be football supporters but couldn't give a monkeys about professional football in NZ.

Anyway, i trust Yellow Fever will remain strong throughout i hope to join you all one day when i have some money and exams are done!!

You guys deserve huge respect Buffon.  Think all the stick that gets thrown about the Kingz/Knights crowds is more about the people who didn't bother their arses showing up than the guys who were there week in and week out.

I wasn't bagging all Auckland fans, just those that chose to stay away when they had their very own football team. An area with such a rich picking of clubs from your Blockhouse Bays, North Shore,Central Uniteds, really more fans could have and should have gotten in behind either of the Auckland professional sides. It will the true test of the YF team and the otther supporters when the team returns home for the Sydney game. If they, god help us, dont come home with any points will we all still turn up?? I'll be there but if we really want to avoid all the references to the other NZ teams we'll need ot keep supporting the lads no matter what!

The ultimate test is to stick by a football team through thick and thin and I hate it when people start critiscing fans, because the phoenix boys (as great as they are) have no right to claim superiority over the bloc 5 lads. If anything the bloc 5 lads showed what football supporters were all about.

Through thick and think they stood, they were a credit to NZ football.

I fail to see how that is a fair conclusion for one to draw after Brownlie's shinanigans against Newcastle.

I'll join Buffon in saying that it hurts when people have a go at the Knights and Kingz because they ultimately failed, with an overall poor record. We, the few of us, tried bloody hard to support them right to the end, lots of fun and good times along with the bad times. Now we're trying hard to support the Nix. It felt like a real death when the Knights went under, havnig had a record of won 3, drew 3, lost one, scored 8, conceeded 7, in their final round, the best performing of the A League in that round.
I hope the Nix do just as well in this round or the next. Chekc out these crazy pics of the Knights last ever game from the crowd pov

Those fans who did make the effort to show up in Auckland were sadly let down by an organisation that was not really professional and focused on its purpose. Whether 900 fans or 19,000 fans showed up, my feeling was that the whole set-up was never going to succeed. I was disappointed they were not better support fan number wise. But it takes two to succeed.

The phoenix have the crowd numbers but they also have the club objective set right. The performance on the field could be better but it's not for lack of trying or lack of support. We will come right in time and any Auckland fan who comes on here or comes down here is very welcome indeed. The more the merrier and fanwise let's make it a success story.

I heard some dickhead (i think it was that bald guy deeker or something )on the radio that the knights scored 19 comp points "last season" and we have 8 so far, but aparently we have scored more goals than they did already. Its still a long way from over we just need to win a few and we'll leap up the table. This league is so small anything can happen, we could even win

maybe riki should use the greek tactic of 11 behind the ball and try score a cheeky goal on a counter attack

Yeah! Deeker is a boofhead....he's just been waiting for the Phoenix to stumble so he can put the boot in!  The only thing I've got to say to him is France 20 AB's 18....choke!...gasp!...choke!   No way can you compare the Phoenix to the Knights. After 10 games the Knights had scored 3 goals....the Phoenix have 10 more than that. Plus the Phoenix are competetive, they have lost 4 of their games by only one goal! They have not disgraced themselves.   More importantly unlike the Knights have a good organisation behind them. They are well funded with good management and a sound fan base. Plus they have a good coach and have apart from one obvious area, recruited soundly .
In their first year I hoped they would be competitive and play attractive football. They have done that already. To be completly honest, for such a new team in such a tough competetion to finish in the bottom half of the table is what you would expect. Wait for year two!!!!!

Similar for me, it was hard to get in behind the Nix at first but it helps getting down there for games, and these cheap flights are awesome

The Knights were someones so hard to watch - but when we did win it was all worth it. The excitement at that final game was awesome
