Elrich escapes Phoenix

He was never part of the team anyway.. seriously.. I think the Phoenix players were reluctant to pass the ball to him alot of the time.. he was free alot waving his arms around like he was marooned on an island when they were getting the ball forward, and players pretty much ignored him half the time... I think he gave up on trying to get it towards the end and just meandered about up and down the right trying to look busy. Maybe he was like the office douchebag or something to the rest of the players, but can't really know that.

I don't think anyone had alot of faith in him - that much was obvious. Not sure what kind of guy he would be to work with, but the rest of the team left him out.. cos he never really gave a sh*t when he was playing anyway. He actually ran once (for like 20 metres) instead of his typical half-arse jogging and it was like a huge deal.. it's not good. . He'll probably play with alot more passion when he's happy and around his family.

He can blame Wellington, and Ricki, and the rest of the team or whatever.. but he was about as useful as tits on a bull after that one goal because he clearly wasn't happy in Wellington, and never really belonged. I say good luck to him and I hope he's happier when he's around his family and in a familiar town. He didn't seem like an arsehole when I saw him play and around town and stuff. He's lebanese anyway.. it would have been like living in the frozen bowels of hell for him.. haha :)

Well i hope that he is just as crap at his new club as he was for us but don't be surprised if he turns it around ,he  has the credentials to play well in a league such as this  and if he is happy with his new environment etc who knows what may happen ,the game is littered with examples of players making Lazarus like comebacks under a different coach or at another club and vice versa.
The point im trying to make is that  if the Phoenix in general or  individual players specifically don't come up with the goods this year do we still castigate the individual players or do we start to look at the problem from a  sructural/coaching /management perspective?
Sacrilege i know at this early stage but worth talking about  !

That's a interesting call, Jambo.

I think, from what I've read, that Elrich basically used us to get an injury free season under his belt before pissing off somewhere else and let us pay for his rehab.

As you say, it will be interesting if the same situation arises again with another player. then I'd agree we would have to start asking some questions.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I agree with Jag, It seemed like Elrich had no intention to stay with us any longer than it took to get match fit. He never seemed to be hungry in games. I don't think we will have the same problem this year though. The majority of the team have proven themselves hungry. I can't see Durante putting anything less than 100 percent. However I have no idea if Mckain has the goods lets hope he does and is not using us like Elrich did to try and get back into the socceroo's

With Durante and McKain, they both have signed 2 year contracts so I think that they are pretty determined to make a go of it. While Elrich only had a contract until the end of the season, possibly to  improve his fitness and if the Nix ended up a bit higher on the table he may have been tempted to resign, both these reasons suggest that he didnt have the right attitude.

this is my favourite thread in ages.

he poisoned our attack

to me it felt like he played for the ozzy teams all last season.  I just wonder why Ricki keep persisting with him, could he have it in his contract to start ever game?

Yeah, its a case what he used to be, rather than where he's right now.
That's why I love the idea of a youth squad.
Build for the future.

I don't mind if someone uses the Phoenix as a springboard to get into their national team - as long as they put in an effort worthy of a national rep while wearing the black and yellow. Elrich used the Phoenix as a springboard to get to the CityStop Pie Kart by the railway station.

the guys a git, was when he was with us, and still is now continuing to piss us off now he's gone. I agree with everything everyone has said, glad to see the back of him and am interested to see how he plays in future.

Unfortunately though you can almost guarantee that, even if he does nothing else all season, he'll score against us.  That's just one of the ways the footy Gods like to F*ck with supporters.

He's brought shame on honest, hard working fat bastards like myself, and for that I'll never forgive him.....

Pretty sure there is a Ferry from there to Gosford (or nearby), so it'll be easy for him to get to matches.

Not actually Central Coast either but good effort and the sentiment is recognised and applauded.

The whole "marguee" player is a stupid idea anyway. You show me one "marquee" player that managed to play the full season and contribute on the park! They should spend the $$$ on youth player development. How much did Elrich cost teh Phoenix anyway?

I wouldn't even have him in my Dunedin Men's 4th Division Team (Caversham Smegs). Go the mighty Smeg! If the club forced us to take him, we'd stick him in as Goal Keeper. At least then he can't show off his "magic footwork".

Maybe his arse could fill up the whole goal so nothing could get past him?

I'd say Dwight Yorke could be added to that list too.

I assumed we meant last season, Covic wasn't a disaster when he first came back as Marquee at Newcastle either.

Agree.  He was comfortably the best player in the league when he was actually playing.

I'd welcome Juninho if he could prove his fitness but only on that condition.

Juninho played  Brosque in brilliantly on a couple of occassions, it was a shame he got injured  as he upped the standard for  'inside left'/creative midfield  role when he was on the park

and it kinda felt good to clap a world cup winner off the park - it would  feel even better if he was one of ours

he seemed to expect more from Kosmina than was his due at the end of the season, not sure what was going on there
