End of Season Player Ratings

Saw the one in the Herald and thought I could do better... Siggy got a 6 and Boxall a 5 etc.

Moss 7

Generally had a good season behind the sticks making a number of top reflex saves. I still have concerns about his ability to deal with the ball into the box (seems to be caught flat footed and doesn't want to come out to collect). Good chat though from the back. My only other concern was how many times he got beaten from distance, poor position / reflexes?

Durante 6

Hampered by a lack of a quality DM for most of the season and having alot of injuries around him. Always gave it his all and showed ability on the ball to play from the back when option were there. Perhaps is getting a little slow, but his reading of the game remains solid.

Siggy 4.5

Can't fault his commitment and compassion etc, but these qualities are not covering his liabilities as well anymore. Still prone to silly fouls and cards which put the team under pressure. His passing has improved, but he still needs to learn how to hold a line and not charge off.

Boxall 7

Looked good at RB this year showing more pace and ability on the ball than people expected. Was strong in the tackle and generally I felt dominated his opposite. Good in the air also and did provide some attacking impetus.

Timmins 5

Too much bad mixed in with the good. Has ability with ball at feet, but squanders possession too much.

Manny 4 and 6

Gave him 6 for his work at LB where he generally looked very assured and provided a good stable defensive link, however failed poorly in the DM role. Lacks movement without the ball and doesn't help support the ball carrier enough. Still a great competitior but similarly to Siggy puts the team under pressure with needless fouls.

Caira 5

Improved as the year went on. Was solid on D and begun to offer more in attack when given a more advanced role. however, still yet to see him cross which for a LB / LM is odd.

Sherminator 4

Good athlete, but has the positional awareness of a blind man on a carousel.

Fenton and Adams N/A did not play enough.

Riera 8.5

Fantastic start to his pro career. A work horse with a great passing range he looked the business and so did the nix when he was there. Took a coupe weeks to settle but after that was consistantly our best player.

Lia 6

When working with Riera he looked very good, however, he faulted when left to run the midfield without him. Has improved this year, but is unable to lead from the fron in the center of the park. Almost gave him an extra half for his control this year (2 yellow cards)

Ridenton 5

Good passing range and looks comfortable on the ball which is pleasing. However, needs to harden up and do gym work in the off season. Got bullied in his first year.

Hicks 6

Felt sorry for him and that he maybe deserved a little more time in place of Ridenton. Like him, he was a little soft on the ball, however, he brought greater energy to the team.

Hernandez 6

In and out of games too much. When on song he was great, but equally so he could be a liability. Great touch and strength on the ball, shit in D which is poor when we look to pressure and defend from the top.

Cunningham 6.5

Energetic, strong in the air and not afraid to shoot he had a great middle after a terrible start, but faded towards the end. Still have doubts over his touch... its worse than Siggy's, but can't question his ethic. Needs to continue to work on the Defensive side of his game.

Boyd 6

Adds a different element to the front line with his ability to take on players. Appears to be listening and learning to advice about coming to the ball. Needs to however assert himself more and add goals to his game.

Brockie 5

Thought some criticism of him was unfair. 6 goals in a season is poor but not terrible, had he taken our penalties etc he'd have 10 and it would look ok. Tried to adapt to a new style but lacks the ability to bring others into the game. Needs to be more of a threat with the ball at feet also.

Krishna 5

One or two good games and a lot looking out of place. Will benefit from a proper pre season and I look forward to seeing what he can achieve. Under performed for me.

Hysegems 6

Great touch, nice vision. But missed a lot of one on ones this year and still can't use his right which makes it easier to defend against. I did however like his work on D. Tried to help out. Arguebly looked at his best in the AM role.

No one else played enough to warrant a mention (Watson etc)

I'm surprised people are talking up Riera's passing range. I didn't think it was one of his strong points. His defensive work and mobility was great while being composed and simple in possession.

Well another season ends with the phoenix nearly winning the wooden spoon only thanks to  Melbourne losing phew.

last season i was talked into buying a season ticket again cos it was going to be an awesome season and we were going to make the playoffs despite the poor performance the year before when were going to do the same.

So sorry  this year I am not renewing my season ticket you can't suck me in again.

Sure, your decision. I just don't understand how fans (of both the club and the sport) walk away like this.

Yeah I used to have a similar view but life is life and football rates differently for different people. Sad but as long Mikey still turns up when he can then that's all you can ask.

I'd knock Moss down on his ability to make mistakes which turn the game, like when they lead to the opening goal. Only .5, but I wouldn't mark him higher than Durante. Certainly I wouldn't mark Siggie at 4.5 with Moss at 7. Thought Siggie had some really great games.

Siggie less than Timmins or Caira??? Really JM? Siggie looked class when there was a midfield in front of him to mop up and receive the ball.

Dint think ive ever seen class used to describe Siggy...

Would knock Durante down to a 5, he really wasnt much better than Siggy at all this season. Boxall down to a 6 and Waffles up to a 7.

Fenton and Adams N/A did not play enough.

Didn't Fenton still play more games than Brindell-South?

Fenton 10, BS 2, Adams 2, Timmins 5,

How can the second last team's average rating be over 5??

the ratings weren't being comared to the other teams, it's a rating within our team ie a 6.5 player rating in the nix may have only achieved a 5 in the Roar - it's all relative. Besides you can have players who excell but still be part of a losing team.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I don't understand how on earth Fenton could get 10 out of 10 from anyone? How many games did he even play?

..lol

He was listing how many games they'd played, not rating them.

manny should never be allowed near a midfield ever again

this is as much to do with how excellent he is as a full back on either side as how utter crap he is in the middle

i think the sigmund comments are harsh.  we were terrible.  he started badly but by the end of the season he looked like one of our only players up to the standard of the league despite his technical limitations

looks like the slog is on...

we should really do the ratings in three sections..first ten games, our run and the last games.

Have to remember that Huysegems was good in the middle section, but missed some seriously good chances outside that or I suspect he'd have a contract now.
