can't remember who he signed - I remember Rees (very good in his first game, not so stand-out in the second); who else did he sign?

some keeper but that was only on a week contract so theres still one space open

$$$$ You can have 1 space free, but if you have spent the cap (including paying out George and Cleberson) you can't sign anyone.

Unless the injury loophole falls your way.

Would the signing of Rees ended any future signings?

Queenslander 3x a year.

like HN says our salary cap would have been impacted by paying out Clebo and George

i'd be surprised if we picked up anyone else,

but given all our attention on the Becks game, the (Sony cool dudes, what was that name again? Sony? yeah Sony)  sponsor, and the AW's  etc, etc, Ricki might just get a signing in w/o the media picking it up prior

but i'm not holding my breath

I would imagine they'll leave it for now, there aren't any terribly strong contenders for the remaining slot, and signing someone just because we have space is wasteful.

Plus it means we can save that slot for Leo Bertos next season :P

I think there will be more than one slot available from this squad for next season.

Its no longer a problem.

Indeed, I'm not saying that there's only going to be the one spot for Leo next season, just that there's not any real need to sign a player now for numbers sake.  Plus if we start calling it Leo's spot its like a vote of confidence towards Leo and the nix.

In order to allow both Paston and Spoonley to play for the All Whites, Ricki has signed keeper Robb Watson...

(If only...)

i know that 5 nix players are being axed at the end of the season so if we dont sign anyone we will have 6 spaces for next season.

I wouldn't take the news article you're referring to as gospel. It said up to five players, and the players in question could make a case to stay on the roster next year.

The 5 was a number made up by the Sunday News.  You'll note the item was complete conjecture and had no meaningful quotes.

fair point hard news, but there are gonna be some casulaties, i remember lia was one of the names but i think after last weekends performance that might change!

Jeez there's still a couple of weeks to go,  we're just starting to gel as a team.
I'm expecting a nice run of points through to the end of January.
A summer of scoring.  Its too early to see who we'll keep.

I think the point a few of us are making p07, is that saying "I know" is a bit risky in terms of credibility

Like Hard News just said one post above yours it was all made up - the names were just conjecture.

Go back and read the thread, Tony P has already said that they haven't even talked to Ricki yet.  The only quote was from Terry and at the end of the day Ricki will be the one making the footballing calls.  The only quotes were that players will be leaving at the end of the season, and that is obvious.  Speculation about who those people will be is fatuous.

I'm sure there are more gems in the state league where Rees came from

The thing with the State leagues is that there are 7 Aus sides scouring them... I just don't see us unearthing players they miss.

Most Adelaide fans have no idea why Rees wasn't in the squad.  I'm hearing rumours Salley is on the outer at Adelaide as well, maybe we take him on loan for the rest of the season to cover the fragility of Aloisi and Johnson.

Injury cover for Johnson... we get him by Friday he'll rip the sh*t out of Burns and co.

He always wanted to be here anyway.

But on the other hand, if there really are, wouldn't we look to sign them? Or don't we have any room left under the salary cap after releasing George and Clebo?

Me thinks that Coveny will retire at the end of the season freeing up a spot.

aloisi said at the beckham press conferance this is likely his last season b4 he retires.

if that's the case re Aloisi and he doesn't decide to stay on as a player, then I hope he stays with the club in some capacity (hard to see where exactly, but you never know)

I think he has been a wonderful front person for the club, and seems to be a good leader on and off the pitch

I heard somewhere that he wanted to go into coaching under Ricki. Which would be great news for the club...

My sentiments exactly. I'd love to see him stay on as a coach, but there is the problem of us already having two class assitants, plus I'd like to see Covs do the same.
