I think we should have our own talent show called (Phoeni)X Factor where we get a panel of rubbish judges and select the best coaching talent NZ has to offer...

Stupid formatting. Take two.

Can someone please organise a Phoenix quiz night for Vader, Trip and NUFC.

Winner takes all type scenario, with the losers admitting that in the pale shadow of their conqueror and are a mere blemish on his backside.

Here's the first question: Name the first ever signing made by Wellington Phoenix.

*disclaimer: the person asking the question does not actually know the
answer and will accept the first entry as correct regardless of factual
accuracy.

Cool game... Ross Aloisi? Don't actually think he was the first, but I know he was pretty early. Probably someone like Coveny, Old, Draper, Costa....

And I will add that he signed but it was not ratified to later cause he had also signed with Newcastle. They released him as an act of good faith

There are no bonus points.

Actually the first official signing made by wellington was Rick Herbert, trick question.

But here's a harder one... who was the first player ever signed by the nix as an injury replacement.

Muscat was start of season 2. I'm going with Phil Imray.

Nix had 3 keepers on the books in the first season, so that is unlikely. Was Rees an injury replacement? Or a 'Omg we signed a donkey called Cleberson' replacement?

lol, I forgot we had 3 keepers to begin with. What a waste of a spot that proved to be.

Does that count as Ricki's first inspired signing??

Yeah we had Moss, Paston and Spoonley but I seem to remember Imray coming in to sit on the bench.

Did Spoonley have a deal in 08/09? He was the keeper on the bench in Rnd 6, so possibly was before Imray.

not a joke.  Dowie did pretty well at Palace (took them up via the play-offs after taking over when they were in the bottom 3 IIRC) but it all turned to custard at Charlton.

Close J82. T.V ' s  portable hotspot is on the blink so he's on hold waiting for mobile faults, while JV got a bit angry with the rep who promptly transferred him to the far queue.........an overseas call centre, I believe....

Crawely does appear to be a well run club that had moved forward in recent years. Not a bad sign if he's played a role in this.

Crawley was taken over by Arabs who bought themselves two promotions. They're the Manchester City of League One.

I still can't quite believe we'd ever get Coppell. Dowie seems a more realistic target if we're talking about someone from the UK.

It's interesting to compare their management records. The main difference is the number of games they've coached. Coppell has coached nearly 1,000 games of pro football which is pretty significant.

Coppell - Games 988 - Won 395 - Drawn 261 - Lost 332 - Win 40% - Pts Per Game 1.46
Dowie - Games 295 - Won 115 - Drawn 74 - Lost 106 - Win 39% - Pts Per Game 1.42

For context, Ernie Merrick has coached 151 A-League games and won 70 for a 46% win percentage and Rickie Herbert has coached 214 A-League games and won 77 for a 36% win percentage. Both at a lower level than Coppell or Dowie of course.

Dowie should be considered at least as brainy as Coppell too. He has a Masters degree in Engineering from Southampton University.
