Just searchig my Memory Banks...... Did Steve Coppell come here with an England Side in 1978 that featured Paul Mariner Joe Corrigan and a few others who played against the All Whites at the Basin Reserve?

Pretty sure Coppell was not in the England B side that played us. The names I remember are Viv Anderson, Glen Roeder, Paul Mariner and John Hollins.

Cheers Leggy I had forgotten about Viv Anderson! I am sure I have a Program from that match somewhere at home. Just looked on Wiki and see Coppell was playing in the full England side at that stage so unlikely he would have been here.

He wasn't with the England "B" down here. John Middleton (Derby County) in goal was here to add to your list. I can tell you, they stayed in the Hotel St George.

Sir Alex Fergusson upon retiring from Man United has decided to take a relaxing working holiday in New Zealand as his working career comes to a close. He'll be in charge of the Wellington Phoenix for 2 years............... One can live in hope.

not sure I agree with the sentiment, do we need a scotsman at the helm?

We don't want him, too old and therefore out of touch with the modern game. What does he know about the players on offer in Australia? He won't have any contacts down here. OK, he has a reasonable record in the EPL but he would struggle in the A League. You'd have to seriously look at his motivation for coming down here, he'd only be looking for a cushy number and treat it as a holiday......

This whole comment about AF at Wellington is just to ridiculous to even be mentioned.
Reasonable record in the EPL? There won't ever be anyone else that will even come close.
He would not struggle as he would more that likely demand a complete new squad. lol

Some of the best managers ever were Scots.
Jock Stein, Matt Busby, Bill Shankly and Alec Ferguson  just to name a few.

Just on a side note, Greenacre is doing his UEFA A licence at the mo. Running some sessions down at Miramar in order to get enough field work in. Think he is heading back to UK in july to doing the week long live in part of the badge.

So Fergusson steps down, and within the week they have signed up their new gaffer..

Ricki steps down months ago and theres still no solution

Don't worry, JD will be on their forum giving them a hard time about their recruitment process. Why wasn't it advertised? Who were the other candidates interviewed? Jobs for the boys etc etc

Key difference being we don't have to worry about share prices and worried 'investors'

plus our off season is months longer than the EPLs, they finish and then a few weeks later it starts all over again.

I hope this is not serious.

Man United could pretty much pick who ever they want. We cannot.
