Good Luck Ernie! Lovely guy sad the way it ended. Players really need to look at themselves.

It's interesting when I hear people say "we have the squad" but I really don't think we do. I think we have spent a lot of money and not come up with a very good squad. I think that recruitment was one of Merrick's weakest points.

I think the issue is in the support players and backup squad members. The stars are as good as many of the other sides, it's the rest who are the problem.

Phoenix need to work out what they are doing with the academy players as well.  Signing random 22 year old state league Aussies is not helping anyone progress from our academy - in fact no-one has actually progressed from our academy (Fenton and Boyd don't count as they were signed before really even being in the academy)

Merrick and Key should of swapped roles instead of retiring.

Not sure if Ridenton, Rufer, Doyle, Watson and Gulley count, though Rufer is from APFA which Welnix took over. Rogerson and McGarry? TBF, the players that were first signed into the academy are still teens, its really early in the bigger picture.

Noooooo! Feel like I'm the only one who feels like this. The team were in a bit of a rut, but I still had a lot of confidence in Ernie and looking at the manager go round at CCM and the Jets I'd rather we had someone who tried to get us playing football like Ernie has.

I'd rather listen to Ernie when having to face up to the reffing BS than someone else.

Man, I'm feeling so cheated. I'm at home sick as a dog, not sure if I'm going to recover in time for Hamilton and this happens.

Merrick deserved to take us to the finals.  Not easy to do when players form other teams can kick the shark out of your stars with monimal to no consequences.

Fair questions to ask: how have the BS decisions affected Merrick's resignation?

How Welnix handle this will be quite revealing. This ain't about about "visions" and "community". It's about hard-nosed reality and what degree of pride they take in finding a way to lift NZ's only pro club off rock bottom.

I  think Greenacre should also go, I know he's not the head coach but he has had his time, part of 2 losing regimes, we need to upskill in that role too.

Does this mean the rest of the season gets written off? I hate the wooden spoon.

The one thing we have been missing since day 1 with the exception of Trani, is a tactician with plan A, B and C all lined up for games.

I believe this is how Ramon approaches all his matches. And the players do what he says. Or they're gone.

I hope not.  It will be written off in that we wont expect to win, but hopefully players and a new coach with a point to prove gets us off that bottom.

If Ramon gets the gig, would he be able to lure Riera back?

Piney on the radio saying he doesn't think Greenacre is in the mix, his picks are Ramon, Tranni, Ross Aloisi, and Hudson.

Lol. You might be onto something there!

I can already picture the outcome of that, say one year from now:

  • The club performs well financially and has no debt; but no-one can afford club membership.  The Nix playing roster is full of cheap Chinese imports.
  • On the other hand, our national economy slumps to the last position in OECD rankings under a popular, funny, soft-spoken new PM.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

While there has been goss, I'm at a loss if Ross is the boss

cant see Hudson as he (Hudson) would see it as a step back from International management!

Watson and Gulley both got cut, Rufer as you say.  Rogerson and McGarry haven't played barely, and neither has Rufer.  Ridenton and Doyle are the closest you could come

Litfin and Lowry are the ones that really get me.  Miles away from our first team but just taking up a spot for a young kiwi

What I think of the academy is when the 'Nix took over APFA 2 years ago. Prior to that you could consider it an academy of sorts, more just a team to give our young first team players game time, playing a handful of friendlies with other players to make up the numbers.

Do you not read to the bottom of articles? He felt forced to sign players because of the international break. And Lowry did a decent job for us TBH. WIth Hudson's play any young kiwis, that meant no incentive for the Nix to sign them
