Yeah I just dont see how this is good for his development, going back to the same league he's just left to a club with no infrastructure. Especially after leaving the club with the best training/recovery facilities in the league.
ex-Nix: Where/what are they now?

Yeh, maybe I'm being too cynical.
The way I see it, this it is really about the integrity of the salary cap. And that has always had so many fudges with the marquees etc
Either management were more than happy with the $$$ or extremely naive.
Apparently there was a rule preventing it, which has since been changed.
Edit: Lol, and I’m miles behind the thread.
Also WTF is up with Gourdie? When did he become a complete count without the o? Martin wotsit of the platform and tap dancer on car bonnets I’d expect it from, but not the guy involved in bringing Winston Reid to NZ.
From both a signing (assuming it's approved) and from a marketing perspective its a great move. It might even cut through some of the Olympic coverage and make the news!

It’s a factual but fudgeed take

ETA: I should probably explain more clearly. "Triggering" is not just another way of saying "upsetting" or "annoying". (Upsetting and annoying other clubs' fans is pretty par for the course). But it has a technical meaning of what happens to a person with PTSD when something reminds them of their trauma. Like, severe distress, flashbacks, literally losing control of their body/thoughts. Using it in this sense is just disrespectful to people who've had some really bad shark happen to them.
If the A Leagues website is to be believed, ALL the clubs were happy to have the Clause removed, with certain 'guardrails'. Presumably those guardrails were to avoid a Paulsen like situation. But the push to remove the Clause came from certain clubs, the APL consulted with the all clubs, then made the application with the FA to remove the Clause. We all await the FA's decision.
Auckland will yes be majorly embarrassed if FA stop this deal from happening. Though they suddenly have some major publicity 2 months before the season kicks off, and regardless of the FA's decision the 1st derby now has real spice. If they wanted to create some major feeling between the 2 clubs, job done.
Following a consultation process with the Australian Professional Leagues (APL), A-Leagues clubs have supported a move to review the ‘Caceres Clause’ ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Not as much as he would have in the EPL.

Kind of gives the vibe that he's in on it too and are trying to drum up the rivalry. Something stinks tbh.

That's obvious now! But when he was signed there were clear indications that he was being considered as a potential challenger for the starting gig. Even being part of the training and gameday squad would be better than playing in the Aleague.

Yipe coldly it's only going to mean more of a bumper crowd at the ROF for that first derby. And again AP playing for Auckland ain't going to be a major factor in whether the Nix have a good or bad upcoming season. Selling him to the Cherries, even if he comes back to the club's new big NZ ALM rival, is still far better than him leaving on a free to AFC. Which when Auckland were granted their new licence was a possibility.
I'm not smart enough to work out exactly why, but it seems it's the clubs (and then by default APL) who want the Caceres Clause gone. Nix fans far more upset about AP being at AFC, than those who pay the bills at Phoenix HQ.
My bugbear is the move the right one for Paulsen himself? Secondly is this the only the start of Auckland FC playing with the rules?
I gave them the benefit of the doubt they weren't Bling FC, getting out and about around the grass roots clubs. Foley seemingly pretty grounded. But this saga is dodgy. Again just adds to the derby rival spice, and yeah Domey probably doesn't mind that. Like him and the club never slated Rudan much when he left. Again that was more the fans.
It is a little ironic that the other day someone at the Nix said they are potentially looking at some good loan deals because of their recent transfer business.
Maybe Bournemouth may loan them a keeper?
I honestly would have understood a move to Sydney, Vuc, or CCM much more. A chance to challenge for the title, maybe play in some AFC tourney. But to go to a brand new team playing in Oz, when the world is your oyster and you're on the books of an EPL team? Nah.
a) the Nix got tricked in negotiations;
b) the Nix deliberately allowed this to happen so that their own fans would get upset and "add spice to the derby"
Pantomine villain Foley said he wanted to challenge for silverware. True to his word
Maybe not give the lack of common ownership. It would look more like a genuine deal rather than some underhanded tactic.

I think you're way off there, Dome's presser was more one of if it happens we dont have a lot of say in the matter but at least it will add some extra spice to the derby.
I honestly cannot see the club agreeing to seel Paulsen knowing he was gonna be loaned straight back - just for a bit of spice.

c) We knew it was a possibility this could happen, but accepted a very good transfer fee for a young player which benefited both us and APs career.
Anything else is disrespectful to the club, and to AP.
This loan deal doesn’t mean it was a mistake to sell AP to Bournemouth in the first place - blocking AP from having a chance to move to a PL club/play in the PL one day just because of the AFC link would have been stupid.
What was stupid was not inserting a clause that in the event of a loan, that would not be to a club in the A league.

Yes, C it is 100%. The Nix knew this could somehow possibly happen.
In everything I heard today from all parties it looks like AP is quite happy to don the AFC kit next season, saying he's looking forward to playing in front of friends and family.
Domey comes across as being resigned to the fact it's gone through, even talked about how great it is for the rivalry. He doesn't seem to be too bothered at all.
How I stand on this: At least we got some decent money. Nix will be looking into the future and move on.
Alex Paulsen only looks after his own interests with no hint of loyalty or respect to his former club and fans - guess you get those types.
Auckland FC have made a real statement with this. This was all pre-meditated a long time ago and they knew it would cause a stir - No love lost, the gloves have come off already, we're enemies. Game on, I say! A bitter rivalry was born today.
Bit of a wake up call for many Nix fans too. Yes, the blue and black is ugly. But the club looks to be a real force.
What was stupid was not inserting a clause that in the event of a loan, that would not be to a club in the A league.
Knowing this was happening, the Nix absolutely should have sought assurances that this wouldn't happen. This is either a lack of foresight from the Nix, of which Foley and AP took full advantage, or the Nix don't really care. There's no consipracy here.
