I saw this, and wondered how this 350k figure compares to the cost of running a ASB Premiership team?

Interesting read in the Nelson Bays Football piece on page 11. Go down to the bottom of that middle column.

Is there much of a football scene in Taranaki? Assuming Nelson gets admitted to the comp, it will mean most of the major parts of the country are represented apart from Taranaki & Taupo regions.

Nelson and Tauranga to make it ten.

No more in Auckland, ever. Why would anyone want more than two teams in one city.

You won't like London then.

Taupo was in the Waikato last time I checked the Atlas but Taranaki is a region on it's own but is in Manawatu for nzf Regions

Some thoughts:

1. I think it is a shame we can't have club football teams in our premier national competition. I know it is not as viable in NZ for a number of reasons. Having franchises, clubs, the phoenix, winter and summer leagues, Champions league and cup tournaments(chatham) played by different types of teams is all pretty confusing for fans. I am glad i dont live in NZ I wouldn't know who to support.

2. I am glad NZF are being cautious.  I hate the way our national competitions change every 5 or 10 years. They are well aware of the risks of expanding too quickly. having 8 teams in a consistant competition for 8 years is a pretty good accomplishment in my book and about the right time to try another couple of teams.

3. Two extra teams means 25% more players in NZ playing at our top level. I am sure the standard is not going to drop 25% because of this. However in theory it has to drop slightly but I am sure in 2 -3 years it has more chance of being the same or better. It also means we are offering more chances for young players to have opportunities in football. So it might bring out another Wood out of the woodwork that may of never otherwise emerged. Not saying Wood was found in the ASB premiership, just saying it is another opportunity for more football for more youth and more motivations to stay in the game.

4. I also wish we could have teams spread out evenly over the whole country but realistically Auckland has more chance of success with an extra team or two than other regions. This is an important factor for the good of the National competition. We need to be a little risk averse in our decisions so as not to destroy the whole competition.

5. Perhaps crowds per game will not increase. But i believe crowds per year will increase. more exposure and more fans turning up and supporting football is a win. I doubt revenue from crowds is ever the make or break for NZ amatuer teams. If they are relying on crowds they will fail. Sponsorship and funding is a much bigger factor.

6. TV please! Or highlights package or internet highlights. Sounds like a job for Milton!

2/3 rds of the population live Hamilton and to the north so a bias to that area is not unaceptable.

Taranaki can't get a club side into Central Football Western Premiership.
No chance of getting a ASB Premiership team going.

Nelson and maybe a Tauranga based team??

I think we will get a 3rd Auckland team, which may spread players and cut the domination of the two existing clubs.

I wont on start apologize for my english. I`m from Poland. But I love football and I`m very concerns football in Oceania.

I read somewhere ( http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10822993 ) that are five bids for ASB Premiershpi: Nelson, Wairarapa United, The Tree Kings United, South Auckland and probably one mor club from Auckland. When will by known if someone it will by included for league?

Announcement will have to be made in the next two weeks, the longer is drags on the more certain the rumours that Nelson + one Auckland team will be included in 2013/14 become.

If so only 4 months late going by NZ Football own time line. It is little wonder that it is hard for clubs to promote the league, try and sell season tickets (no public draw out yet), get the media on board, etc.

Maybe losing out on the OFC spot in the Confed Cup had the NZ Football bean counters revisting the costs around ASB League.

Thank!

I don`t understand why you have only 8 teams in league. And why you have strange listem: several leagues but withoute promotions and relegation...

Two days down, three to go. I understand the clubs have been advised off the decision so unsure why the delay.
