So, I officially expect all of those who bagged Michael Ferrante at
any time this season, especially after 5/6 matches, to officially
eat their hats. He's been fantastic sine he's been restored to the
side in a deeper midfield role and finally got the goal he deserved
tonight. His long passing was excellent, picking Elrich out in the
first half. Great performance.

Definitely prepared to eat a slice of humble pie here. He's slowly
been beginning to show his class without a doubt.

Yup, tho its a shame its taken him the whole season to get it right

My point is that he HAS been quality most of the year, too many
people picked on some poor finishing and ignored the rest of his
game. No coincidence that our poor run in October coincided with
his absence from he side

He is our only midfielder with a decent range of passing, he never
shirks responsibility even if he makes a mistake plus he is
genuinely box o box (even if he's struggled in front of goal).

One goal and he's got a halo? He's not the only midfielder who can
pass. What I will say is that the guy has been improving through
the latter part of the season - just as the team as a whole has.
People tend to think all our players should be consistently
brilliant, rather than simply consistent. I think Ferrante is a lot
more consistent these days and should definitely be back next
season.

I don't condone the small mindedness of the comments on that and
many more threads criticising Ferrante

I agree with there JD. I saw him a couple of seasons ago when I was
in Melbourne and thought he was quality. He has good vision, isn't
greedy and has a good pass. When he was picked up with Lia at
the start of this season I thought it was a bloody huge scoop for
the nix and that the Victory boys would be rather
pissed. Great to see them both putting in huge efforts
and playing well.

just wondering how you explain the holes the size of a small country in our midfield in the first half JD? and where did you watch the game and did you get beaten up for supporting the Nix?

Well, I thought Felipe was terrible tonight and left us chasing
shadows. Plus I still don't think Brownie has shown his best, he
needs a run of games and next weeks suspension won't help. Big
thing will be expected of him next year with no Ross.
I watched the match at the Trinity in Surry Hills with a couple of Sydney FC lads with a soft spot for the Phoenix, trains to Newcastle aren't running at the moment so couldn't go up. No beatings luckily.

I'm one of those who bagged him earlier in the season, and I'm
gladly eating my hat. Ferrante did great today, he's won me over
this last month of so. He deserves to wear black and yellow.

agree JD, probably a wee lesson for some on this board
I think Stopout's point about consistency is important

I have to agree also with JD about Ferrante. It's also true that he
couldn't have scored in a brothel before finally getting one on
target last night. The man himself would probably take that on the
chin. His strength is his passing and his vision. Not the defensive
workrate of Lia or Johnson but valuable in other ways. Certainly
harder working than Felipe though. Good on him getting a goal
finally. It will do his confidence the world of good.

Ferrante is by far the best passer of the ball that we have in the
side. You only need to go back to our first win against sydney and
check out the through ball he played for Daniel that got us the
match winning penalty. It's wonderful he manages to finally get a
goal for us, especially against Newcastle as I seem to remember he
missed a huge opportunity to score against them in the game he lost
1 - 0. Good on you Ricki for bringing him back into the side, I
loved the way he celebrated that goal. His play has been a key part
in the turnaround in our fortunes.
As for the 'holes in our midfield' I put that down to an average display from Brown (he seemed anonymous for most of the game) and Ricki having to move Lia to wide left to cover for Dodd's absence (with Lochy getting pushed back). Things looked better once Johnson came on (Felipe was also nowhere to be seen last night), and I hope he gets a start in Lia's (suspended) place against Sydney next week.
Fantastic result lads!!!!

Ferrante has had faith put in him and he has got better and better
and better, unlike a couple of other who have also had that faith.
Ferrante and Johnno in midfield against Bling will be a damn good
start.
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Ferrante has always been a very good passer in midfield. We all
know he's not the menace in front of goal like Smeltzy is.
It was nice to see him score last night, but let's not get overexcited.

I think he played really well last night - certainly one of his best performances, he made a huge difference in the midfield especially with his long passes to Elrich out wide.

He has been in fine form. Just a shame about his usual poor finishing, great to see him finally get one though!

He's always played well, at least tried his best every single game
(unlike some others) and worked his arse off.
Literally you all been 'playa hatin'. :P
And leave Steven Old alone. Or milleners will be living in luxury a few years down the track. And nobody likes milleners.

I think Ferrante had a couple of shockers in his first couple of
games but he has been one our most valuable players lately and I
don't think anyone has denied that.
-"I thought he played quite well in the first half and overall. He just can't shoot at all. Why the hell do our good chances always fall to him? I could shoot better." I said that at the start of Sep. Still the same now. valeo2007-12-31 15:30:27
