Flying Other Club's Colours In The Zone

Today, someone had a Liverpool flag/blanket on display in the Fever Zone.
Do we want non- Phoenix flags being flown in the YF Zone?

Tickets? Tickets? We talkin’ about tickets?

Liverpool? They should be executed.

Until I relocated from wellington I always flew mine away from the yellow fever zone... this should be for fever fans only.

Let's keep this pro-Phoenix. Flags from other clubs is unacceptable. Caps & shirts from other clubs have been accepted, but flags/blankets are unacceptable .

Do away with other club tops in the zone too. I saw an Everton one and thought how long have you been here? Not hard to get a yellow tee shirt or just dress casual.

This is the fever zone for the Wellington Phoenix.

Numbers is the zone is the most important thing. Dont want to alienate fans.

Would prefer them in yellow, but dont want to push fans away if they want to wear #### kit...

(I think line would be drawn with other A-league kit)

I think better to have the people in the zone and singing, if they enjoy it (maybe first time) they may keep coming back and they may end up buying Phoenix or Yellow Fever gear. So have no problem with other tops/hats etc in the zone. Other teams flags is not right though and I don't think should be brought in. You're there to support the Phoenix.

As a protest we could have a "sit down " in the zone ?

Doubt many of them would know who we are.

Three for me, and two for them.

The blanket was not on display. It was a kids blanket that was taken to the match to keep her warm, it was over a barrier while she went to the toilet. Regardless of whether it is acceptable to have it at the match or not, the reaction to it was totally inappropriate. Do we really want 'so called' fans telling a 6 year old to stick 'her Scouse flag up her arse?'

You would not be received well Steve. They would think either you have big balls and are taking the piss or you are retarded in some way.

No one would be telling her that but one might wonder why are the parents not taking a normal blanket? Then again, one could  also wonder why are young kids being taken into the zone when there is a clear family area for our younger fans and their parents.

Some of the language used in the zone really isnt for young ears nor copius amounts of alcohol being drunk for their young eyes.

Ok that sounds much different 1, thought it was waved as a flag and two thought it was some older person in the zone rather than a kid. Moving along.

Personal opinion (not Fever policy) is yellow or casual.  Pretty sure I ranted in the very early days on the same subject.

I'd prefer people don't wear any other clubs strip but if you must then do so away from the home end.

The Fever zone has many denominations in it when it comes to 2nd teams but come together as one to support the Phoenix.  Among those other teams are rivalries that should be left behind which becomes harder when the rival coulours are involved.

We nearly had a major problem at Eden Park due to these issues.

For me I'd ask that non - Phoenix strip are left behind.

Possible exceptions:
ASB Premiership strip
All White strip (maybe even Fiji)
Kingz or Knights strips

Not sure why people are defensive about it.I always thought the Yellow Fever Zone was for supporters of the Phoenix.Dont have a problem with people wearing other shirts to the game but sorry i dont think they have any place in the zone.

You did indeed talk about this once before Mr News, not sure if it was early season one or season two. I think you might have also mentioned it prior to the Beckham game.

Those exact words were chanted at the girl and the stewards got involved. She was also the victim of a vile song about returning to her slum. People all around where disgusted.

The girl packed her own blanket...because she was going to the football...it figures to take a football blanket!

Are kids banned from the zone then?

Oh? Not aware of anyone singing that where I was. Absolutely  no cause for that. Apologies to you and her for that happening.

As for children in the zone, I wouldn't  encourage it . There is a family area set aside for that purpose.

Talk about mountains out of molehills. If someone had actually been waving a Liverpool flag I'd be a bit iffy about it but it was a blanket so whatever.

As for shirts  personally I couldn't give a rats backside what kind of shirt you wear to the game so long as you're there and supporting the team who cares. Looking around tonight and seeing Everton shirts , Arsenal polos , Liverpool shirts etc was no issue , to me it shows what football is like over here a bunch of people who love the game and can't support Arsenal or whoever in the flesh so instead get along and sing and scream and shout for the Phoenix. Sure a bright red Liverpool shirt or a claret and blue shirt may look weird or stand out but who cares they're paying there hard earned cash to support football in this country so who really cares. Most people (myself included) start off with there English teams shirt fall for the Phoenix and buy a nix shirt.

And as for "trouble"between rival fans I certainly didn't see any tonight. I sat a bit behind one of the Everton shirt wearers and all I heard was someone say (in a non threatening way) you've got shark on your shirt and they both laughed

I think that's why most people wear other football team shirts to the game too. Shows you have a bit of interest in the game

I started in the zone at 13ish and my uncle occasionally brings my five and nine year old cousins in...it's not really a problem so long as you know what you're getting yourself or your kids into the odd swear word here and there.

It was the threatening and abusive reaction to the blanket that was disgusting, not having the blanket in the first place.

Is it standard YF protocol to intimidate fellow fans?  The girls 11 year old brother, who,is also a Nix & Liverpool fan, now feels frightened to go to the match because of the aggressive way his dad was treated.  The whole family were worried going back to the car in case they got jumped by the gang of drunken men who were hurling abuse.

I was talking in general , like we don't see Hammers fans bashing millwall fans during a chant or whatever.

As for the Liverpool chanting/ abuse and what not that's pretty bloody poor but as with most things it's usually the minority that cause shark. I didn't hear the abuse being chucked at the Liverpool fan but If I had I would've been livid and told them to shut it , as would pretty much 99% of the fever. And don't let a couple of boozed up arseholes put you off the fever zone most people are nice and welcoming as :-)

There is no standard YF protocol.

It sounds pretty vile if this was directed at the 6 yo.

I've been in the FZ a couple of times and found it to be a very fun, non-twunty environment - would even consider bringing the kids over (except they want to be a bit closer to the game).

The evening games do tend to bring out a few more lads.

Of course while it should be OK to wear whatever you want to a football match, it is extremely odd to wear other club colours to a game and sit in the home team's dedicated nutter zone.

Warwick, the  first 'so called' hooligan fan who abused the 6 year old girl was a Newcastle fan. You must be ashamed by that, being a Newcastle fan yourself.

I was the instigator of this 'problem' and some context is required

- at half-time it was noticed that a Liverpool 'banner' was being displayed in the Fever Zone
- it was a total display of club colours/identity
- whether or not it's a blanket is immaterial, it was draped as a full Liverpool banner with crest and full club name
- I went and talked to the adult behind the banner, presumably 'newgolddream'
- a conversation ensued along the following lines
  - that's an unacceptable display of club colours in our zone
  - it's my daughters blanket
  - ok, then go and display it in another part of the ground, but not the Fever Zone
|  - why should I?
 - because it's unacceptable. What would happen if a Toon Flag was displayed in the Kop?
 - I don't know
 - you know exactly what would happen.
- several other people went and expressed their opinion, which like mine was ignored
- the blanket was still being displayed at the start of the second half
- a chant against the colours was expressed.

I did not abuse a six year old girl!
I talked to you reasonably at half time and after my conversation, as stated above,  you gave me a sarcastic reply of  "Thanks for your input"

All clubs have supporters ranging from muppets to good sorts.

But if you could identify the abusive person as a toon supporter it reinforces Hard News' take on the wearing of colours in the FZ.

I'm confused. Is the Fever Zone under martial law? If I'm entitled to be entitled to be in that area and want to wear a Roar jersey, with a Wanderers tutu and Victory coloured feathers out my backside, I should be allowed to. Get over yourselves and your 7 year old fan club.
