Newcastle v Phoenix, it was extremely boring.

Crikey Steve-O.  I want your life if that is your benchmark for extremely boring.

Junior - what was good in the game? I remember one shot that Brockie should've buried.

Bring on the a-league! Pre season is utter pish.

Interestingly (or not) I was looking at all the crowd kitted out in older seasons nix gear and thinking ('where were you when we were sh!t') these guys added not much to the noise.  Not that I added much either - it's definitely more of a work out during the season when it really means something (when those dirty Aussies cheat and the refs are always biased against us).

Thoroughly enjoyable day, dont get why some are so down on it.The laughs the fever getting out sung by the hammers fans even though they wernt playing. Then the bearded one singing to the hammers fans you have only got one song. Then next up the fever launch into Oh Wellington really.

Would love us to have a signature tune like the hammers but sadly evreytime something gets suggested it gets knocked down.No doubt about it had the fever been envolved then blowing bubbles would never have become to mean what it does to the Hammers.

Well for starters Stevo, the  Nix did quite well against Newcastle.  We thought they might run out of puff and didn't.  They kept on attacking Newcastle at every opportunity.  Some of the interp,ay was quite good. No route one football. Tyler Boyd matched some of the Newcastle guys for party tricks with flick ons and stealing the ball off their toes. Cudicini looked excellent at the back for them. So cool under any pressure. It was a pleasure to see him organise the Newcastle defence. There were a couple of shots that were close. The cross bar got clipped. It was a competitive game without being dirty and not soft so no one got hurt. Both teams wanted to play football. Is that ok for starters? Mind you my point of view was from Aisle 17 Row FF Seat 139. Others might have seen the game differently from their position. Oh and Brockie wasn't that bad. He did a ton of off the ball work by dragging their defence all over the place. A bit unlucky on several occasions. And give their keeper credit, he pulled off some wonderful saves as did Moss.

That bubble machine sucked. My kids toy puts out better ones.

Two guys behind me were disvussing the merits of tapping the Topp Twins in an intimate way. Considering they bat for the other team, the thought has left me with a bile taste in the back of my mouth.

Really enjoyed the day and though both games were interesting enough for pre-season games. Shame the Pheonix couldn't get a goal in the end, had more than enough chances. The official attendance of just under 31,000 didn't seem right though. There were a lot of empty seats over the opposite side (I was in aisle 25).

I think a lot of people are hiding in the corporates and up in the gods.

Even with 31,000 inside the stadium doesn't look anywhere near full. Having yellow seats doesn't help the look.

Indeed what an incredible day for football. It almost felt annoying all Wellington football was postponed today. We never get to play in those conditions!

WTF - "We never get to play in these condition". FO. Biggest event in Wellington Football occurred today in Wgtn and you missed your day playing football in the sun. Start a summer league. I want an annual week like this.

Calm down mate I did say it "almost felt annoying" in response to a post about the weather. Thought it was clearly a joke so sorry if you took it the wrong way. 3 posts above I said I really enjoyed the day.

Admittedly I had a number of beers yesterday so my postings last night were less 'structured' than normal...

However, it was a decent day out, but I can't say I enjoyed the games.

If you did, all power to you and I'm not telling you you should not have..

Well done domey, the owners, and the rest of the backroom staff. Great week. While it might not have been a financial success, hopefully it drags a few more in.

There were enough st Westpac to show that we could easily be getting 14k gates every home game. If only they would show.

I know it wasn't logistically possible but I think it would have been interesting if the Auckland leg of the tour had also featured a double-header bringing the thousands of Newcastle fans to Eden Park as well as the WHU fans, had been played at prime time in the weekend and had been heavily promoted by Auckland City Council, all of which happened in Wellington. I think you could have well got 35,000+ or even 40,000 to Eden Park.

Purely from a financial point of view I think the Dunedin game was a waste of time because it took away the possibility of a double header in Auckland with well supported NUFC involved. Frankly to me Newcastle were a much bigger attraction than West Ham. That one sided result in Dunedin was also a psychological downer as an opener for the tour.

Wish Welnix was running NZ football on this performance. Now if only Brockie could learn to look up and place his shots.

I know a Phoenix supporter who hates going to Westpac stadium, thinks it's soulless and uncomfortable if a wind is blowing, and finds all the empty yellow seats a downer. I wonder if that is true of other potential Nix/A League fans in Wellington?

A comfortable close-to-the-action 12,000 seat boutique football stadium might just be full every home game.

Blue, we were talking about this on the way to the game. A double header last weekend followed by this weekend, may well have been the game clincher. Perhaps next year this might happen. Certainly a lot more people from here would have travelled to Auckland for it, myself being one.

I wouldnt bother with Dunedin to be honest. Awesome stadium that I'd have loved to have here instead of the bowl of emptyness.

This leads on to my next point.  Dump the yellow seats and use the multi coloured ones like in Napier. It gives you the feel of the stadium being full so long at you dont drape humungous banners over the empty ones.

What about painting black vertical stripes on all the yellow seats - that might to the trick on TV.

Need to do something. The empty seats really stood out yesterday when there wasn't that many of them!

But, I doubt they'll do anything.

It costs money to replace them. The Stadium has better uses for their money, improving the concourse and wifi are next on the agenda it sounds.

Full credit to the West Ham fans who keep going right through the Nix/Newcastle game. They may have only had one song but I found it annoyingly catchy. Does anyone know what they were actually chanting?

Although maybe after a few more 7s events we might just about need to replace the lot.

Maybe organise for the RBB to come over for a game? They'll rip a few seats out.

West Ham fans were singing "twist and shout". YouTube Coventry fans singing it at Arsenal during half time.

Not sure why, but seems to have caught on in England - singing twist and shout over and over and over!
